  1. Only saw this thread now that the name changed, and it lines up with my experience before Christmas. All I'm really doing is adding to what seems to have been discovered already. Early December I upgraded the Adrenalin drivers from 22.6.1 to 22.11.2, for my RX 5700 XT. Everything appeared to be fine and DCS was working fine. Then just before Christmas I upgraded my graphics card to a RX 6800 XT. I then started having strange occasional crashes in DCS when launching some missions (the P-51D Batumi instant action crashed reliably every single time). The biggest problem was that I was suddenly having massive frame time lag spikes approx. every 40-80 secs, to the point it was almost unplayable. Similar experience was had in a certain other big name flight sim. After much cussing and scratching of the head I realized its probably not DCS (as the other one was behaving similarly) and was either the card or drivers. I then used the amd cleaner util to remove the drivers and installed the 22.6.1 drivers again. Everything has been mostly stable and all working smoothly since then (including in the other sim)! I do still have the odd crash, but it seems random and much rarer now so not sure if still related or not.
  2. FSR requires in-game support, which DCS does not (currently) have. RSR can be turned on in the AMD Radeon settings. What I did was go to the gaming section, open the DCS settings, and turn on the "Radeon Super Resolution" setting. It will also try to walk you through the information and explain how it works when you turn it on. Then in-game (i.e. in DCS), just set your resolution to lower than the native resolution of your display, and RSR will kick in. Mine did not look as good and I did not gain much performance improve for using 1440p on a 4k monitor (still need to test 1080p on the 4k monitor). And for me the Anti-Aliasing looked worse... NB: This is for normal (monitor). I do not have a VR setup, so no idea there...
  3. I'm seeing something really strange happening... I have a sensor panel running (Aida64) so I can keep on eye my system on a little lcd screen... and normally in game (any) the GPU clock (AMD RX5700XT) is all over the place hunting up and down as it ramps up then goes back down, making a nice little wavy pattern on the graph... now normally I have noticed that DCS is way more stable than the other certain other big heavy GA flight sim (which the GPU clock goes all over the place with), but still goes up and down quite a lot in short bursts... BUT now after this update, that clock speed is ROCK SOLID in DCS, as in very, very steady. The most I saw it move was around 5-10Mhz over a long space of time. That graph is now just a flat line! Thought it might be something else, so hopped over to that other game and it was behaving as normal (crazy all over the place). Back in DCS land and the clock speed is very steady! I was thinking (before I noticed the graph) it seemed smoother and fps more steady... might have been the imagination, but overall I hope the steady clock equates to smoother performance and less gap between min, avg and max fps (although I'm guessing that will still be scene/view related).
  4. For me (with an AMD RX5700XT), the best option was with MSAA to x4 and no SSAA. It doesn't remove it completely but it is a LOT better than with MSAA x2 and/or SSAA. With SSAA on as well as MSAA x4, it's just not playable for me with the performance hit of having both on, and I didn't really notice much improvement with the extra SSAA on. Your mileage may vary
  5. That particular file doesn't exist in the directory. Copied one of the others (I used 1Camera.lua), adjusted it and renamed accordingly. It then shows up in DCS as an option. However, it did not work for me! What I did figure out (and maybe this is a bug I should report?) is that, if I have my desktop set to 1440p, and I setup DCS for 4k (2160p) then DCS behaves strangely. Firstly I have to do the ALT-ENTER on it to do full screen (unless you tick full screen in the options of course), but it shows all distorted, as if the aspect ratio is very, very wrong (everything is stretched wide and marrow in height) although it does take up the screen. The mouse does not get to all the menus or shows the wrong option highlighted sometimes, and sometimes it works! Then in the aircraft you cannot click on anything! The exact same thing happens if you have your desktop in 2160p and set DCS for 1440p. However if you have your desktop and DCS at the same resolution (e.g. 1440 or 2160), then everything works perfectly!
  6. Well, you see that's the thing... that window is not going to last before the 5700XT's used value starts decreasing... but yes, selling off the old card is not everyone's cup of tea so to speak. And yes, the 3070 ti has limitations, but it's limitations are going to last a whole lot longer than the current 5700XT! Whether it is a suitable upgrade for a person, depends on the context and situation with supply and demand at the time. I've tried SSAA before, but I gave your settings a try (you never know!). On DCS 2.7, your exact settings gave me around the low to mid 50's fps for most situations low level (clouds on standard, which you don't have on 2.5.6). BUT the shimmering drove me mad. On 4k with your settings but change the SSA to MSAA x4 and it looks brilliant with hardly any shimmering at all... but the fps is in the low 30's for the same situations!! Ironically, your undervolted settings are pretty similar to what I have set My settings are very similar, but 1440 and MSAA x4. I get around the mid 60's for fps in the same situations as above, and the simmering is mostly acceptable (although still very evident). So yeah, if a 3070 ti will let me run at MSAA x4 with other options turned up higher, and still give me an extra 20+ fps, I'm liking that idea I would like to see a 3070's fps in DCS at 4k with MSAA x4 just out of curiosity, not expecting great things from it, but would be nice to know... @Nuggetz If you are able to try it out at 4k with msaa x4 (2d) sometime, we would appreciate the info so we can compare
  7. Awesome, thank you so much for the feedback! It certainly does give me an indication of where the 3070 sits for VR, and I'm sure it will help others who are looking at various cards.
  8. You make good points, and it's why I'm sitting wondering if I should do it or not, hence querying just how well it currently runs DCS... The rest of the PC is all good, including sufficient PSU for an OC 3080. CPU (currently i7-9700) could do with an upgrade at some point, but it's good for a while still. The choice for me, is a 3070 TI in the near future, whose prices are a more reasonable level for me and there is actually stock (probably because of the mining restrictions on them)... OR wait another year and pick up a used 3080 / 3080 TI when people buy the next gen. A new top end card is out of my reach (unless I save for the next 2 years)!! However, if I wait another year, then I probably won't be able to sell off my 5700XT for anywhere near the same as it's current value, whereas currently I can get back about half of what the 3070 TI will cost me for it now. Also, if history has taught us anything, majority of people with 3080's etc. are not going to jump to a next gen when it comes out, they'll skip and go for the one after that, so the upper end cards used values will still be quite high for a while... I am leaning towards to the 3070 TI for now, as I can get back a reasonable amount back for my current card, and I'm pretty sure a 3070 ti will last another 2-3years for me, during which if I'm clever enough (doubtful ) I can save as well and then upgrade to something really fancy (at which point I'll probably also need cpu/board etc.). For me, the difference between the 5700XT and the 3070TI is having most things turned up high so I can enjoy better looking sims (both DCS and the other current sim by MS which I also fly), and still have reasonable fps. These are my primary games so that's what I care about. If DCS (or the other one) update again in that time that drops fps even more, then I can start turning things down again back to like now, and wait until I'm ready for the next upgrade. Whereas currently if the fps goes downhill due to more tech changes, I'm going to end up with a not very good looking sim and with poor performance... Whilst the 5700XT currently does a good job, quite a bit in the settings is turned down so that I get good fps across all maps (well, not counting Marianas) in all sorts of situations. What drives me crazy is the shimmering, which means I have to have MSAA on x4 to bring it to acceptable levels, which is quite a performance hit. Thus I'm not convinced it would last me another 1-3 years of playing keeping the fps the same. And then I do want the sims looking a bit better also Oh, and I'm a 2D player, not VR. Yes it's not a huge performance increase to go to a 3070 TI, but I'm looking at it from a longer term with smaller steps to get up to the top performing cards as I cannot afford to go straight to the top end (and probably won't be able to in the mid term future). Those new card prices are not going to come down in hurry, they will just keep going up as does everything else. There is no win, it's money lost which ever way you go... for me it's about which way can I go with losing the least amount and enjoying the ride at the same time!
  9. Ah! That's great, I shall try that. Thanks for the assist
  10. Nope, nothing the saved games\dcs folders... But I did find these files in the install dcs folder, with very similar looking options in them...
  11. I'd like to try this... but I can't seem to find this file mentioned (monitorconfig.lua)! Is this still valid or has it been moved to some other file?
  12. Sadly not yet (saving up, selling off some old hardware as well to get there), but so far the plan is to move to a 3070 Ti as soon as I have enough saved up.
  13. Hi, The auto start sequence does not appear to switch the RWR (and counter measures) on. Is there a particular reason for this, or is it a bug? Thanks
  14. Yip, I also have this (along with all the other artifacts and funky looking edges where clouds meet the horizon and water). Also when looking at an angle where there is buildings with the sea/water behind them the buildings have this white outline around them as well.
  15. This is definitely a problem, and probably a bug. I have a 4k (3840x2160) native monitor and I run my desktop at 1440 (2560x1440). If I run DCS at another resolution (tested with 1920x1080 and 3840x2160), with either full screen tick on or off, I lose the clickable cockpit. I can click on nothing at all. Pressing ALT-ENTER or ALT-TAB'ing out and back in does not "fix" it (still unclickable). Interestingly, if I ALT-ENTER to make it "windowed mode", I can then click the buttons, but as soon as I ALT-ENTER to make it full screen nothing becomes clickable again.
  16. A little shimmering here and there is acceptable, but every corner on the ground (water edges and buildings and roofs, trees) is not (which is what I currently have). I noticed the 4x MSAA setting you used and was very pleased to see that with those FPS. That certainly does help with smoothing things out and reducing shimmering edges. I’m also hoping the future Vulkan changes also improve that issue as well. Bonus on the low noise! gorgeous Thanks!
  17. This is great, thank you very much! Puts my mind at ease and shows that a 3070/TI will definitely be a big improvement for me. If I can get those kind of fps's with those settings I will be a very happy pilot And I don't mind turning a thing or two down a little if really needed, but I suspect that should keep me happy for a couple of years. I take it you don't have any of the shimmering edges issues? Could you indulge us with a couple of screen shots when you get a chance Thanks for this, really appreciate it! Let us know how it goes with the VR performance on this card. I'm not going that route, but it might help some other here who are looking at upgrading to the lower end cards. This is certainly a consideration between the different brands card, but I gather it's an improvement over the older cards, especially over the older AMD's (my 5700 XT is a very noisy beast out the box - I had to tweak the fan curve quite a bit until I found a balance between noise and heat/performance that was acceptable).
  18. Awesome! Thanks, would appreciate more feedback once you’ve got it all tuned in.
  19. Hi, Can anyone here with a 3070 or 3070 TI please give me some fps numbers (with settings being used) in DCS 2.7.x ? I would like to get an idea of how much of an improvement upgrading from my RX5700XT to a 3070 TI would be... I'm running in 2560x1440 resolution, 2D only (no VR). I get ok'ish fps for the most part currently (albeit with lots of things turned down), so anything more would be great, especially if I can up some of the graphics settings as well! I'm also done with all the shimmering on all the edges of everything on the ground, it's really killing the immersion! I had it before in 2.5.6, but it's got really bad in 2.7. I've tried everything I could find on the issue (different resolutions/driver versions/AA/reshade etc. etc.), and I know its a DCS problem (no other game does it including MSFS2020). However a lot of people do not have the problem, so I can only put it down to something about the way that the amd drivers/hardware handle the AA. The 3070 TI's are becoming more readily available at a more decent (although not great) price point in my part of the world (South Africa), so it seems the two flight sims I fly would both benefit from it and give me decent, playable fps for my (mostly single player learning to missions) flying, however I can't find any solid stats on these cards in DCS. The 3080's/6700's/6800's are still too far more than what I am comfortable to pay for a graphics card. Current machine specs: i7-9700 (non K) and water cooled with an AIO, 32Gb RAM, MSI RX5700 XT 8Gb Mech OC, SSD's for primary and secondary drives (both nvme's with DCS on the second one), all nicely housed in a Corsair 5000d Airflow with plenty of fans and good airflow, temps are all excellent (except for that damn hotspot on the 5700XT, but the main GPU temp sits a steady 75 under heavy load). Appreciate any feedback from people who have a 3070 or 2070 TI. Thanks!
  20. Yes please!! Would love to see this supported in DCS. (and I voted over on the AMD link).
  21. I've had a loss of FPS, had to re-tweak the settings (along with new install and clean saved games folder)! But I don't care, its far more smoother than before (despite the lower fps), and oh my so beautiful !! I even went and bought Syria now, and yeah low'ish fps, but steady and silky smooth and stunningly gorgeous. Very big well done, you have definitely taken this sim to new heights and completely set a new standard of realism I love cr***ing myself when I get spatial disoriented in the clouds, I love having to think twice about what's below me now, I love the lighting and the way the sun shines through the clouds and the lighting on the ground, I love the clouds... love it... Keep up the good work, fix those pesky problems and keep bringing us more goodies for 2.7 please
  22. It's available on steam, just got mine on Steam!
  23. I did find that using the AA and AF settings in the Radeon game profile helped with a fps or two, but to me it seemed to make it look a bit worse, including adding a fair amount of shimmering on trees and buildings etc. I tried following the same logic as people have done with the settings for nVidia settings, but it didn't seem to work out the same. What did help me smooth out things was switching on the Radeon enhanced Sync, and turning off v-sync in game. Totally got rid of some nasty "tearing" with having v-sync off. I also found having Texture Filtering Quality set to performance definitely added a few fps and it still looked the same image quality to me. I've also got Surface Format Optimization to on, and Morphological AA enabled. Running on a RX5700XT at 1440, I get 100'sh fps during the day (with plenty of AI aircraft around) and it drops down to the 50's at night/really bad weather etc. depending on the scene. In game textures are high, water medium, shadows medium, MSAA set to x2, SSSA off, SSLR off, AF x16.
