  1. As cool as this would be, I would suggest you don't dwell on it too much. I think we'd be lucky to have 10% of this list in DCS within the next decade. Its been 4 years since the release of supercarrier, a single ship that is the key supplement to the flagship module of the game (F18), and its still totally incomplete.
  2. The version of the map we have now has tons of post-invasion allied airfields all over Normandy. How difficult would it be to provide a selectable map layer that simply removes all the airfields that the allies built, so you can get an authentic pre-invasion airfield distribution?
  3. If ED releases an Iraq map and you can't do proper Gulf War 1 & 2 ops with the F15, F16 and F18, that will be such a huge swing and miss.
  4. I just purchased a set of three 32" 1440p curved Gigabyte monitors primarily for sim racing. Since I now have them set up in a rig, I was also curious about DCS. After some brief research, it looks like most of the info online about using triples for DCS is years old at this point, so I am wondering what the state of triple monitor support in 2024 is? Right now, using Nvidia surround to generate a custom resolution, I can get a decent picture in DCS, but there is definitely still some noticeable geometric distortion with the image on the side monitors. I don't immediately see many settings I can tweak within DCS to adjust the picture, though. Does anyone else here run triples and, if so, what settings are you working with to get a good, non-distorted image?
  5. Can you point me to this document? Sounds very useful.
  6. To clarify - I've already created many missions with fudging. What I'd like to try to do is make a mission where period accurate blue aircraft and ground assets are engaging period accurate red aircraft and ground assets in the correct location. Exact numbers involved and AI behavior are less of a concern for me. I thought none of the German plane variants in DCS actually fought in the Normandy Invasion in 1944, but maybe I'm wrong about that? I hadn't heard about Praying Mantis, looks like an interesting scenario so thanks for the suggestion. Might look into that one a little more.
  7. There have been many time during mission making when I've thought to myself how useful these options would be. A couple of examples: "Invincible" is very useful if you want to try to make a training scenario that ends slightly more realistically than watching your instructor crashing and exploding on the ground while telling you "great job!" Obviously purely simulated missile and gun shots would be preferred, but I doubt ED will ever figure that out. Both "Unlimited Ammo" and "Invincible" would be very useful for a mission maker who wants to create some atmosphere in a combat area. You could stage a firefight between vehicles or infantry that lasts more than 10 seconds since the units would not die or run out of ammo and continue to fire at each other for the duration of the mission or maybe until a flag switches their invincibility off.
  8. As the years go by, I am finding myself less interested in creating "what-if" scenarios and more interested in trying to make a replica of a real mission that actually happened. Unfortunately there seems to always need to be a compromise somewhere. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a real historical mission that can be accurately or very near accurately recreated within the current DCS ecosystem.
  9. ED has actually made some recent audio improvements besides the ones listed above as well. A variety of smaller AAA guns and MGs, specifically the WW2 ones, sound much better now than they did last year with great crackling and reverb that used to be absent. Still a lot of work to do, obviously. One thing I'd like to see prioritized for audio are the sounds of incoming projectiles, whether its a strafing run from the perspective of the target, or high caliber AA shells flying past the camera as you watch a formation of B17's in F2 view while flak is engaging, for example. Those sounds could all use some work.
  10. What I want to do is set up a local communication system for my rig that that allows me to replicate how a real flight instructor speaks to a student during a lesson. To elaborate - I want to have my friend sit in my rig, with headphones and a mic, and I want to be able to sit in a chair next to him, also with headphones and a mic, with both us having two-way communication, so I can provide real time instructions as needed, during a flight. If you were tasked with setting such a thing up, assuming its possible within DCS, how would you go about doing it?
  11. Like the MQ-9 Reaper or something similar with a basic HUD, a targeting pod and AG Missiles. Could be part of the Combined Arms module with a simple flight model. Seems like most of the groundwork is already there in the game. Thoughts?
  12. As far as I can tell these groups are usually just wearing non-descript civilian clothes during combat. If we had some "Insurgent" infantry units that looked like civilians with AK47s and RPG, that would be sufficient to cover most groups of irregular fighters. What I think we can all agree on is that the infantry models available in DCS are generally pretty terrible and some more variety in both looks and/or behavior would be a welcome addition.
  13. I juts setup my Orion 2 HOTAS and one of the first things that I noticed was that when the left and right throttles are locked via the metal pin, there is a small amount of play between each throttle. Maybe a millimeter or two. I normally wouldn't care about this, although the unfortunate thing is that when I have the throttles locked and push them both to the mil power detent, might right afterburner ignites, while the left engine remains at mil. It sounds like the slight play between the throttles when they are locked is a common attribute of the Orion 2, so I'm sure I'm not the first person who has had this issue with desynced afterburners when at the mil power detent? How can I adjust curves, either in simapp pro or in DCS to avoid this issue?
  14. Hi all. I just placed an order for a brand new Winwing Orion 2 HOTAS with the F18 throttle and stick grips after 2 years of flying with a T16000m. What I'd like to do is bind the controls on my new HOTAS as closely as possible to what the controls of the real jet are. What I need is either a complete profile or a clear diagram of the real F18 HOTAS controls, so I can bind those to my Orion 2 as best I can. I have not been able to find this info via quick google searches, but hoping someone can help me out. Thanks.
  15. When Flag 1 is active, Set Option: Kamikaze Would be great for late war pacific ops, defending the fleet in a Corsair or Hellcat from Kamikaze swarms. Would also make for some exciting combined arms gameplay if we could control ship mounted AA guns.
  16. The current generation of detailed maps don't need to be erased from existence, but all future "detailed maps" should just be modules that improve or change regions of the global map.
  17. If ED's idea is that they are going to release a comparatively low detail globe like it's just any other terrain, and then continue to sell the individual flat maps totally separately, then that would be a pretty big disappointment in my opinion. I would suggest that if/when the global map is ever finished and released, it needs to become the foundation of all future DCS terrain offerings. So the base, modern period global map comes with the free to play game, and then you pay for more detailed areas or historical layers that you can install and uninstall as desired, but you are always flying on the same global base map. I haven't played MSFS but my understanding is that they do something like that. It would be great if they shared some information about what their vision actually is.
  18. I'd buy and learn the F15E if we had an Iraq map. I'd buy the map too, obviously. Without it, probably not anytime soon.
  19. This is such a simple thing that would greatly increase the fun of DCS WW2. Why ED routinely fails to prioritize low hanging fruit like this in favor of stuff that literally no one asked for is really hard to understand.
  20. Locking the tanker in STT is what I currently do. My assumption is that you'd never do that in real life, though.
  21. Again, looking for simple, condensed instructions on the air to air tacan to use for formation flying and A2A refuels.
  22. I often hear the P47 described as a superb high-altitude fighter. I must be missing something, because if I launch a mission with a high-altitude air start, the plane feels like a boat drifting to the left and right and honestly feels terrible to fly, sluggish and hard to control. Is there something wrong with the air start settings? Maybe something wrong with my hotas axis or something? I always exit the mission with the impression that that just didn't feel right. I am still a P47 noob though so I'm not sure if there actually is a problem here or not. The other warbird I have is the BF109, and that feels waaaay better to me, even at high altitude, where the P47 supposedly shines.
  23. Some preliminary research is not making it immediately clear which modules have systems and peripherals (like NVGs) that make effective night missions possible. I can see that the F15E and Apache look to have some fairly in-depth night ops systems. What about other modules? Anything on the red side? If someone could let me know off the top of their head or point me to a good resource, that would be great, thanks.
  24. I'm not sure what the best solution is here, but all I know is that the current default behavior is utterly terrible. I don't need that awful sounding robot voice giving me the same unprompted BRA call dozens of times in a row without stopping. Makes me just want to mute my radio 99% of the time. If it were up to me, without changing any settings, the default behavior should be that the AI AWACS only gives BRA calls relevant to your specific aircraft and only when I go into the radio menu and ask it to give one to me. At the very least, please make it more user friendly and simple for players to customize how they want the AI AWACS to interact with them.
