  1. @BIGNEWYwhat have you done to me! I used to be a normal person, I mean, I was never Brad Pitt cool, but i could hold my own in a room. You have got me almost giddy with delight with the new shockwave animations. I have just spent the last hour dropping different sized bombs in the jungles on Saipan, saying 'that's so cool!' With each impact. I haven't been this excited since heatblur updated their suspension animation..... I used to be cool! Damn you DCS!!! In all seriousness..... its SO COOL!!!! You don't know what you have missed till you get it and this latest update has me grinning from ear to ear. Thanks to you and the team.
  2. Hi all, I was talking about asking Jester to do the 'assisted start' so he talks through the checklist as you go. Just for the immersion I like to do full cold and dark and its nice him calling out the actions but I don't want the above boxes to be present. Thanks all, sounds like the answer is I either do it with Jester being silent, or put up with the boxes. Ta
  3. Thanks @MAXsennathat's a great thought. My main thing though is removing the 'hint boxes' over the switches. I like doing the full coldstart but don't need the boxes showing where the switches are. That is what i would like to know if there is a way to remove.
  4. Having recently watched Reflected's latest addition to his campaigns with the full start up it got me thinking. Is it possible to do the assisted start with Jester without the yellow box icons over the switches in question? I'm one of those weirdos who likes full cold and darks and it would be nice while in vr if I could get Jester to interact with me for immersion. The flashing boxes kind of bugger it up though. I understand this is a training tool but is there a setting we can remove them? Or, alternatively, if it isn't too much work, could you add it as an extra start up option? Thanks
  5. I know its been asked before but is there any chance of getting close up images of each console without a grey out so we can see how the cockpit panels will look and how the switches relate to each other. Would be great for practicing cold and dark.
  6. Do you remember the gazelle release or to a lesser extent the F16? The one thing it showed was that the DCS community want it 'now' but will also throw teddies out the cot if there are issues. The bad taste people will get from that would long outlast any disappointment people might get from a delay. We have waited this long, another month or two isn't that big a deal in the long run. Heatblur have provided top of the range, module defining releases in the past and I'm sure this will be another one. These things happen.
  7. Just had the same issue. Have flown it twice, each time I can't get anything from anyone. Flew egress then to padres? For Exxon. Even flew formation with Exxon and also went back to Marshall but no further comms etc. On the plus side the kneecards look phenomenal in vr on the pilot body now. Can read them without issue.
  8. I'd love too but this game is the closest I'm ever going to get to flying a jet of any sort. All I can say is it feels better now, it feels less on rails now, a little closer to Heatblur's tomcat with regards to maintaining speed in turning and needing more finesse. The landings feel a little better now. I trust that ED have SMEs who have helped design this new model to be closer to the real thing. All I can say is I am liking these changes the more I try them.
  9. @wilbur81I found the same thing initially compared to the old model but less stick back pressure (think tomcat) and it will whip about without the bleed of speed. It's going to take a little practice but I'm really liking it.
  10. Having more of a play around and whilst I think the undercarriage feels a little soft if you land air force style, doing case recoveries on the boat or landing navy style at an airfield it feels much better to me. Kinda liking it. Also the quality of the kneeboard in VR is amazing! Just did a Raven One mission and was able to read it off the knee rather than opening up a window. Very immersive!
  11. With regards BFM and bleeding speed I'm liking the new feel. It's a little closer to the tomcat in as far as much finer inputs have a bigger impact, be it bleeding or adding knots. I'm finding I'm pulling on the stick a lot less and getting a better rate in the turn. I did notice the undercarriage feels much softer on landing though. Made me feel like one side had collapsed momentarily. All in all I'm really liking it. Haven't tried pulling on the paddle yet, there was a suggestion it could lead to jamming surfaces etc at high G. Would be interested to see if that's the case as I like the idea.
  12. Hi @Reflected, have been playing through this again using the new hivis skin and updates and loving it more than ever. Just finished the first 4 ship and flying in formation on the way in and the new paint scheme pops with the other aircraft. Would make a brilliant wallpaper.
  13. Hi @zarusoba10, could I suggest you have a look at the Fly and Wire website by @Karon. think it will have exactly the sort of thing you are looking for.
  14. Hi @IronMike, apologies if this has been answered elsewhere. I have looked but been unable to find it. Is there anywhere that we can get images of each of the panels? Obviously in the manual you show them with numbers and then broken down by switch, but what i would like is clear close ups of each overall panel in turn. My plan (yes its nerdy) would be to print them out so i can work through the checklists and get comfortable with the switchology and where everything is so I'm set for my first cold and dark on release. Ta
  15. Hi @IronMikespotted a typo in the oil system paragraph of the engines section. sixth sentence down, "rive" assuming it should be "drive".
  16. Quick question. On the cockpit overview/weapons panel the delivery mode knob has a setting called INST O/S but I can't find it on the picture? There is a TOSS option.. is that it?
  17. Reading through this and the thing that has me most excited is the new approach to training and Ground Chief. As with the Tomcat I think HB are raising the bar yet again! Can't wait to learn this module inside out! I was just wondering how much the recent Speed and Angels campaign has influenced the new training route? It sounds a total win!
  18. In the special settings for the f14 make sure the burble isn't ticked. ED have updated theirs but it means you get a double whammy on approach if you are also using heatblurs. Other than that both the A and B fly really well in all regimes for me.
  19. That's brilliant thanks @near_blind, I thought it might be the case but cleared my confusion.
  20. Hi all, I wonder if someone can help. I have watched the tutorials by Jabbers and gone through the manual but still confused. My plan is that I would like to loft some bombs at a target protected by SAMs from the front seat. My first thought was to find it with the Lantern, designate and then get low and loft. Is there anyway of doing this with Jester? Or do you need a real RIO? Is it a tech limitation as the Lantern is a separate system does it not send any data to the aircraft? Does the pilot need to still manually get the diamond in place and designate first? Any help would be gratefully received, thanks in advance.

  22. Happy New year @IronMike I hope you and the team had a good one! So how about it? Is it time yet? Is their space in the pattern?
  23. Hi @Reflected its kind of a memoir. The author himself was a reporter who was given access and free reign to talk to anyone, he stayed on the boat, swapping state rooms on occasion to get closer to different groups. The sqns involved were the Tomcatters and Red Rippers for the tomcats and the Sunday Punchers and Buckeyes flying the A6. The crews slowly relax to him and end up taking him under their wing and using him as a confessional.
  24. Happy Christmas all and a merry New Year! I want to start by saying I have no affiliations or connections to the following beyond being a listener. I enjoy this podcast and figure many of you would too, this Christmas special especially! I highly recommend to any of you who love the Tomcat.
  25. Hey Reflected, happy Christmas and a merry New Year. I hope you have a good one and it's a great year ahead. At Christmas I got an old book 'Super Carrier' by George Wilson. It follows his opportunity to do a cruise on the USS Kennedy in 1983-84, a routine tour that ended up off Lebanon following the Beruit bombing. It largely follows the F14 and A6 crews and I think it could definitely form the basis for a decent campaign for either aircraft, especially the A6 when it arrives. Definitely worth a read if you get the chance.
