  1. Dear Phantom 711, DCS worked fine on Win 10 Pro, CPU i5-6402, GTX 1060 etc without MTT. I read that MTT is not essential. So I uninstalled it. Most annoying was the Warning Tone after a Heavy Landing. there is a ''Warning tone Silence button'' as per the print out but not in the dropdown menu on my PC. One answer was : the button is 'below APU Start Switch?; then, 'Behind the Canopy jettison lever ( unreachable?)? Thanks for your reply. Vishkar.
  2. I just played Free Flight - Kobuleti landing. Before I started, I had to reset all controls. Moment after I landed, I found that all Control Settings are wiped out. I NEVER had this problem with Win 10 pro, i5-6402, GTX- 1060. Now I am on Win 11 pro, i7-12900, RTX 3060. Having all the troubles. I have even uninstalled MTT ( multithreading ) option. How do i save Control Settings? please help. Thanks, vishkar
  3. About silencing the 'Warning Tone': In the drop-down menu on my PC, 'Warning tone Silence Button' was not shown at all. So when i put it to Search, I was allowed to add it. But I am still Not sure, how to get rid of it. I understand that the Ground Crew are supposed to check the Gear for damage and then OK it. I chose the ground crew option from ATC Stennis menu. I was told to shut down the engines which I did. What next? There is a way to change the a/c , so do I change it after every hard landing? can I assign a new keystroke to silence that U/C warning horn?
  4. On page 14 of KEYBOARD INPUTS list, the 8th line from the bottom reads Warning Tone Silence Button -Left Vertical panel and somebody answered Below APU Start Switch?. Not sure. I did many good landings ( Win 10 pro, 500 GB HDD, i5-6402k, GTX 1060. Now on Win 11 pro, i7-12900, SSD, 500 GB, RTX 3060) I read that the crew has to check the Landing Gear for any damage due HEAVY LANDING ( above Descent rate 750 ft/Min?)
  5. Dear and Respected All, thanks for your replies. I meant the warning after a hard landing - to be silenced. Some mention it as a button below APU StartStart Swich. I get hard landings because i find that the throttle response below 130-134 kts is slow and I tend to bash open the throttle. ( though I have done 500 odd landings, about 150 on carrier). But changing from Win 10 pro to 11 Pro & reinstalling DCS gives some problems. I'll try that button behind canopy Jettison handle as suggested by Figaro 9. Thanks a ton. 1. My Control settings have to be done again and again. 2. Is there a detailed explanation for all settings, eg Curvature, Invert, % . All parameters? 3. Do I need MTT option (multithreading?). It was not there before I changed from i5 - 6402 to i7-12900 CPU. Thank you all in advance from a 78 yr old learner.
  6. Warning tone silence button -Left vertical Panel? I couldnt find it. please help (deleted) EDIT (Vader): Removed email address
  7. 'From: vishkar vhk1210@gmail.com F/A 18C 'Suggest Carrier Take-Off'' also should be included in the Free flight module. Thanks
  8. Dear Sir, Past two years or so, I have enjoyed DCS, having bought and installed F/A 18 C, Supercarrier and Su 30. I upgraded my HOME PC from Win 10 pro to Win 11 Pro. Also I changed the M/board, Graphic card, Processor and SSD. Now I find this game cannot be played and I only want to REINSTALL the DCS program and modules. Please advise. Regards, Vishwas Karmarkar vhk1210@gmail.com
  9. The Manual picture shows F/A 18 C attacking at 545 Kts at 1180 ft approx. But the reticle goes below HUD and the gun fires above the pipper as i attack at about 500 ft agl In the practice module ( INSTANT ACTION), the a/c starts at over 6000 ft. Diving from 3000 ft at 30 deg angle as suggested, I would be a soft target for ground defences like AA Guns/ SAMs. Your comments please. Thanks.
  10. I think my text did not appear with the F -18 picture in AG attack mode. It shows the a/c at 1180 ft, 545 kts speed. My point is if you look at the vehicle spread, they look bunched up on the left 4-5 vehicles. So with the pipper pointed at them, I should get more hits in one salvo. At a sharp 30 deg dive from 3000 ft or so, they seem more spread out. The picture is from the Manual. Thanks.
  11. Thank you all. I am just over two yr old into flying SH. Learning with just about 65 hrs, 370 landings.
  12. In a hostile environment, don't we expose our a/c to AA guns and GA missiles by flying at a few thousand feet? i started doing 2-3 passes from different directions at low levels ( say 300'-400' AGL). I got better results, but at a shallow angle, the reticle dips below the HUD view. ( while doing free flight Weapons module). Any advice is welcome. Thanks all.
  13. Thanks to both of you. So far I have only practised TRAINING modules. Done only about 40 hrs, 350 landings. Just getting the hang of A/G Gun and rockets. I taught FMS to airline pilots but for me F/A 18 is much more complex. After watching the hardware panels-Take-off and combat- by WInWIng, I thought of the same in software versions where one can just practice a sequence with checklist to master it without fumbling/finding the right switches/ buttons etc. Anyway, even at 76, I am not too old to fly fighters. Best wishes and regards, Vishkar. vhk1210@gmail.com
  14. There is a Windows app 'Windows PChealth setup' which tells you if your PC is Win 11 compatible or not. Like mine isn't because I don't have TPM2 ( whatever that is) and my processor is an old and poor little i5-6402. But Win 10 is supported till Oct 2024 so why worry? I have other legacy games like UT3 and FSX 32 bit. Now I don't want to keep asking if they will work on Win 11 or not. Best of luck to all flyers.
  15. I want to suggest that under the TRAINING menu we could have a module for PRACTICE. This should help in checking out if we are following the correct procedure or not. Like an objective exam paper? Better still to have the relevant cockpit display to go through the checklist till we master it. Old days we used to have a blind-fold test to point and touch the correct levers, switches etc. No guesses for what happened if you FAIL.
  16. Thanks Bunny! Also where is the SHUT DOWN procedure given? Thanks in advance.
  17. Please help with the above topic. i just don't hit the GAZ truck often though I fly very low at 350 kts speed. vhk1210@gmail.com
  18. Dear Sir, I have been using Win 10 64 bit. Now with Win 11, is DCS compatible with WIN 11? Please let us know. Thanks, regards vhk1210@gmail.com
  19. I am a novice still in DCS, but OK with FSX. I taught ILS CATII/III to airline pilots. With only a single INS on board the F/A 18C, there should be cloud base and visibility limits specified. Airliners certified for CAT II/III must have triple IRS/INS coupled with the autoflight system. Also Full Flaps were deployed only when sure of making the runway. In our carrier Full Flaps landing, we still have full flaps going 'Bolter', or as per SOP, open full power to go around in case the arrester cable snaps. But for carrier take off we have only Half Flaps.??Still learning. Thanks.
  20. This is my order ref number: Order Number: 171-5094067-8266737 · Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas 4 | Flight Game Controller | Joystick | PC/PS4 This is ref to my query about activation code 24/12/19 reference code is HT-BBYM-M67F-DCW6 After several complaints to Amazon, Cloudtail Ltd, and Thrustmaster to replace my defective HOTAS 4 without success, I opened the bottom panel to find that the PCB is marked THRUSTMASTER HOTAS X PS4. When I looked at ifixit picture of HOTAS 4 PCB it looked different. Someone please tell me how I should proceed with my complaint. Thanks, VHKarmarkar Thrustmaster order.docx
  21. What you call downwind leg is in fact UPWIND in the direction of landing. This is to check that the runway is clear and also to get a 'clear' call from the deck when you put the HOOK down. Lowering FLAPS, your LIFT increases so the a/c gains height. You have to push the stick forward to keep vel vector level, then trim to keep E bracket aligned with vel vector. What you call UPWIND is DOWNWIND opposite to the landing direction. On FINALS, you have to be very quick to adjust power to keep the speed within +- 2-3 knots. ( I too have these problems). Else you'll keep pumping the throttle.
  22. question: Can i bypass the Briefings for a mission? can I bypass the Briefing part and fly the training mission directly? I am new to DCS having just done 35 VFR landings on F/A 18 C. But now I am familiar with the controls. vishkar vhk1210@gmail.com
  23. Thank you Sprool. Will try. vishkar
  24. Could we have a Free Flight module after we select the aircraft to fly. This will enable calibrating joystick and other controls before we start a mission. As of now we have to pause the mission, reset our controls again and again. I played Microsoft FSX 32 bit with Saitek Cyborg joystick for many years without much problem. FSX has a 'Free Flight' module which allows handling of the aircraft before a mission is selected. Also can I bypass the Briefing part and fly the training mission directly? I am new to DCS having just done 35 VFR landings on F/A 18 C. vishkar vhk1210@gmail.com
