  1. Yeah there are indeed quite a few areas around the world where maneuvering and coordinating the group, but also with other NATO allies and especially civil traffic is quite tense. Also other adversaries of course.
  2. Well I dunno, in my missions they are about 10nm to 12nm apart. They're also never in any danger to get shot at cause they stay away from any coastline at least 100nm to 120nm. Actually an additional good point to this little off topic summary of weird mission designs that I also witnessed a lot. Some mission builders put their strike groups way too close to shorelines. And then they actually get stuck when steaming straight towards the coast after turning into the wind. A carrier group always tries to avoid any dangerous position. And yet again it depends on the environment. PG or even the northern Aegean Sea gives much less room to operate than the Arabian Sea or one of the big oceans, but that does not mean the group would cruise just 20nm off the coast of Iran.
  3. Yes so much this. One of the weird misconceptions within the DCS community, especially mission designers. Actually very glad you bring that up, never saw anybody mentioning it yet. Every now and then in forums/reddit the question comes up "how do I make the helo fly next to the carrier?" cause they think this is the way, followed by the answer pointing to the moose script. They want to have that in their thinking needed eye candy thing. And everybody uses it, even in campaigns that try to be as realistic as possible. In fact the plane guard or rescue helicopter actually has a freedom of movement within a circle of around 20 nm radius around the boat during daytime and 10 nm at low vis and night. Most of the time from 200ft to 500ft. So they simply fly around within that radius and wait for the unfortunate call if needed. Also sometimes during recovery they even fly as best they can in "formation" with each plane from the break to the wire, come around and catch up the next. Quite a challenge actually. I am not the best when it comes to scripting, so I too use Moose but always set the tanker script for the helo and just change altitude and radius. Yes it will not "pick up" a crashed/ ejected pilot, but to be honest I do not need that gimmick. I'd rather like to have a Seahawk moving around in a more realistic manner than just hovering along with the boat. Still like to have it a bit more offset to the carrier upwind. Maybe someone knows how to do that... That is my needed eye candy, even if I don't see it all the time when the helo might be somewhere 10 nm behind or 5 nm ahead of the boat and doing its thing.
  4. Most DCS mission designers place everything way too close together for a "nice picture". Sometimes even in a kinda criminal way where you need to watch out not to cut off the antennas of an Arleigh Burke sitting directly in front of the carrier after launch. There is no fixed composition for a CSG. It varies from mission to mission and how the assets are available. Also the placement changes. Would be a bit silly if everybody would know where the escorts are. This is just to get an idea of how far apart the parts of the group -CAN- be. Also of course it simply depends on the space available. Persian Gulf is of course much more narrow than the Atlantic or Pacific.
  5. Some just set keybinds for T,B,L,R 12345 etc.. also btw the whole KU is already usable with your Keyboard while press and holding Lctrl+Lalt by default. Actually very convenient.
  6. Always good to see the most accurate documentation on the Apache and Army Aviation in general ever made.
  7. Yep, you are now the first cause I just wanted to report that too So yes I can confirm, noticed the same since the last update. Most of the abbreviation inputs (yes of course those form the list) don't work anymore. Not only enemy one's, also things like SP, US etc. do not get accepted anymore. Quite a bummer tbh.
  8. Rotor downwash really needs to be a bigger thing. Especially now with the Apache. Landing at a FARP in the middle of a meadow and not having any downwash on the grass at all is very .. well.. weird, unsatisfying, disappointing.. Rotor downwash in general is way too understated with dust, sand and there like.
  9. No experience with VR here. But just a question in between. Are you guys really have this fat HMD in your view? Especially this huge black ring? Or is it just a screenshot thing and different when actually looking through both eyes? Man that ugly distracting thing would drive me crazy..
  10. Exceptionally in this particular case it doesn't matter if there is a video of this or that, or if it was used against this or that IRL. Fact is that currently George cannot lock or even see anything else than units. But we should be able to shoot at everything we like to, with utilising George while sitting in the back seat. Just something like a "my line of sight" command, but not a whole rough direction to an area as it is now. Instead a secondary alternative mode (while keeping the current mode) with the exact point we look at. As a first step or something. Just a thought. Of course all WIP now and I hope that it will be possible in the future.
  11. Something tells me that this is the actual problem here. Sounds like it is OP's first helo and he actually has no clue how to fly helo's. He say's: I understand that like there is no pedal work at all.
  12. Yeah since we found out that DCS ground "AI" always aims for the pilots head (which is just painfully simple), yes they are definitely aimbots. I always set them to the lowest skill level "average" to just make it at least a bit "more realistic". So that they miss a lot. But I still get hit every now and then, from small arms and also the new NSTV's from the last update. Never got shot down yet. That is why either the Apache is actually a tank (at least against small arms) or relays on the yet not fully implemented damage model. Hard to judge though. Probably the latter, cause small arms hits don't even leave bullet holes in the fuselage. Also for the whole COIN mission set I too do not fly that low. At least 300-500ft AGL and always keep moving. From 600-700ft upwards small arms also don't even attempt to shoot at you anymore.
  13. Honestly for mission building I would just be happy to have the model to begin with. Waiting for it since I saw it in the vid.
  14. Yes indeed, it is really annoying like it is now. If you want to read it, then zoom in. This scaling with zoom and not map is just wrong.
  15. But not with the livery that fits the actual client Apache's. Also it is an A model. I know most people don't care about detail, but I do. Anyways I just ask for an option here within the Wishlist section.
  16. Kinda. Statics are just the plain model without detection and engagement ranges, no disperse function, no running motors etc. so yes without AI. But exactly this makes them much more (with AI) or less (just static) demanding in the mission. I noticed a huge difference. Sitting ducks on ramps or ground, blocked by a trigger or just zero fuel but still by purpose like to act are just more stuff to compute. So when you have a mission with about 1500 units and several fully fleshed out Airfields, Bases, FOB's and FARP's, 150 flags and an endless amount of trigger zones you look for everything to make a heavy mission at least a bit lighter. And for the cosmetics, just to make things look alive and not plain empty like vanilla DCS is, statics are needed. And options are always good, you never can have enough.
  17. Maybe he meant different routes. That would be nice yes.
  18. What Raptor said in the thread he linked.
  19. Since there are empty racks for Hellfire's, it also would be nice to be able to equip empty rocket pods via rearm and ME.
  20. Thanks. But yeah while this is a possibility, placing actual units even uncontrolled with no trigger and so not acting uses more workload. I run huge and very heavy missions. Placing statics wherever possible instead of units is a plus though. For Players as well as the server.
  21. Pretty much what the title says. Placing like 8 static Apache's in ME and all of them have the FCR is quite unrealistic. An option in the ME to get rid of the FCR would be nice. Wasn't sure if this fits more in the ME section or not. If so then sorry. Thanks.
