I have watched the Grim Reaper Video several times, Cap does ILS landing,  but is able to fly at 135 to 140 nts. If I try going much below 200 the plane drops too quickly.   Was that video made with zero weapons and fuel tanks?  I have been practicing with a couple extra fuel tanks. Maybe the extra weight required faster flight speed????  Or was there an adjustment to the F16's sim characteristics?  Just wondering...

    Mike

More weight requires more lift. More lift can be generated by more AoA or more speed. Since you will eventually run out of AoA and stall, let alone need a given AoA for a proper approach, you have no choice but to increase speed with higher weights.

That‘s universal for every plane btw. not just the Viper.

I'm starting to get right off this company

Why though? Where have they wronged you?

Just imagine the option(!) to buy in three different pieces wasn’t there. How is it different to any other EA module/map? Don’t like EA? Wait for the full release. Don’t like the region as a map? Don’t buy it at all.

They just put another option on top. Emphasis on „option“. You don’t need to take it, and if you don’t it doesn’t affect you in the slightest.

The issue is that's not what is being said on various Discords by ED, we shall wait and see I guess for more official clarification of how this will work. I'm in the UK so don't have to work out my own tax lol

Only the first part of my post was an answer to your quote. The rest was more "general". 🤗

  4. I highly doubt that ED hasn’t thought about campaigns. They didn’t struck me as shortsighted so far.

I may be proven wrong eventually (even though I doubt it), but for now I assume they have thought it through. Can’t remember any problems with the Normandy map in this regard.

My understanding is that if you have not purchased the high detail areas but the mission extends to said areas then you wont see the buildings.

It will be the same as with the Normandy 2.0 map. The buildings will be there, just low poly, low detail models, but otherwise the same. Probably missing some fences and bushes and satellite dishes.

Seriously, I don’t get what all the fuzz is about. You can still buy the whole map for a reasonable price (given the size, I would say it is at least the same value as all the other maps easily).

You just have the option(!) to be cheap or save some money if you simply don’t care for some areas or high detail.

I wonder how people who are overwhelmed by this amount of complexity do their taxes…..😅

do you have and recommendations because I am working towards a $1000 budget

    For DCS?

I don’t know how it fits into your budget, but I will always recommend Virpil and/or VKB. Superior tech, compared to thrustmaster, and top build quality,

Others might also recommend WinWing, but personally I dislike/distrust their software.

My setup consists of a virpil throttle, a vkb base with 20 cm extension and a metal thrustmaster grip (the grips are ok, just the gimbal base is comparatively mediocre).

For pedals I use MFGs and can recommend them, but I think there are other equally well built options.

Is the kit readily available? I'm not up to date on the matter rn.

    Hallo zusammen,

Only problem with the Rhino is the waiting time. I can't even remember if I actually ordered or just thought about it....... 😅 If it was ofm the shelve it would probably an insta-buy (once the liquidity is given that is.... 😁)

I have been looking into having my own cockpit and I came across this seat and I looked for throttles and sticks that fit this but I can't find any that fit onto the stick base.

    Has anyone got any recommendations

    link to seat: https://nextlevelracing.com/products/boeing-combat-flight-simulator/

I think it has all the regular mounting adapters to fit the usual stuff from thrustmaster et al.

I doubt that it excludes any of the enthusiast tier hardware.

  11. It depends on the AoA, the higher the AoA the more rudder is needed instead (!) of ailereon to roll. In the tomcat this goes up to 100% rudder at very high AoAs.

This behavior is very emphasized in the Tomcat but not exclusive to her.

I believe it is more a function of aerodynamics and has nothing to do with inertia - but I can't back that up with data.

  12. When you‘re allowed to change textures, you can make them whatever you want. E.g. very high contrast or even signal colors like red or yellow on objects that would naturally be rather difficult to pick up. Since only the client with the modified textures would see this and other players wouldn’t even been aware, that could give an unfair advantage.

I know, what kind of person would spoil the fun by engaging in such doing, but the sad reality is, some people would do almost anything to win - even by unfair means.

If that isn’t a concern for a particular server, they can always opt to lower the IC demands.

    Hi Hiob,

can you take a screenshot of your dcs settings page, and maybe add a track and video showing what you are seeing.

    Here you go,

I'm not exactly happy with my examples here - as always when you want to show someone, it kind of fails to really pop into the eye. However it can be seen. Most noticeable are the "running fences" (on all maps), shadow details and the satellite dishes in Sinai..... but it is all the same phenomenon.

If someone could help me out with even better examples - would be highly appreciated!

(The video is scaled down for size, look at the "front line" of satellite dishes)

p.s. for the purpose of this, I removed all mods and created a "virgin" savegames folder. But it doesn't change anything to my usual setup.

  14. Hi @BIGNEWY,

thank you for engaging in this topic. I will try to make a video and/or screenshots asap.

But basically all my GFX settings are maxed out. But that is rather unimportant since the small bubble of maximum LoD is always the same, regardless of all other settings. And as much as I can tell the LoD switch factor doesn’t do anything in this regard (it is maxed out anyway).

Nevertheless I will do anything to make this topic gain traction. As soon as I‘m sitting on my PC, I will provide more data.

In the mean time, if you like, just hop into a Gazelle start from Haifa in the late Afternoon, and enjoy a nice treetop level flight around the airport and have a look 100 to 200m in front of you.

    Thank You!

  15. Hello Creators,

I'd wish to bring a topic to your attention that bugs me tremendously, even though I'm usually not easily bugged by this kind of stuff.

That topic is the Bubble of maximum LoD around the player. There is this area/bubble around the player (estimated 150-300 m wide) where you see maximum details, including but not limited to: Details on buildings, Satellite Dishes, Detailed Fences, Ground Clutter etc.....

I get why this zone of maximum detail is limited (performance obviously) and it usually isn't a problem when you fly Jets or even Warbirds for that matter - because you are way to high and way to fast anyway to notice any of this stuff in the first place. And when you are taxiing around, your pov is so low, that you can't see very far in the first place.

!!! HOWEVER - this completely flips when flying helicopters. With typical helicopter operations being low and rather slow in comparison, the "wave" of LoD pop-in's of the aforementioned Details/Clutter is squarley right in the midst of where you're looking. In the worst case, flying over a dense city you're literally "riding the wave"! (the lovely datailed urban areas in the latest maps only exacerbate the problem). !!!

There is always a compromise to be made between best looks and best performance - totally clear - and thankfully we have a wide range of gfx features we can adjust to our hardware and priorities. Even when there isn't a game settings option to tune DCS individually, there is often some more or less hidden .lua file that can be modified by the great modding community of DCS to make things happen.

Unfortunately not in this case. There is neither a build-in adjustable setting for this, nor has anybody (including me) been able to find some inofficial mod that helps.

Personally I would happily change some maximum viewing distance for improvements in the very near to midst viewing ranges. At least there should be the option to do so. Hardware has become vastly more powerful (even though it can still be brought to its knees), and I think it should be allowed to the users to balance their needs.

To be clear, I'm assuming that this is just some parameter that is already in the game and only needs to be made available to be controlled by the player. I'm not asking for a rewrite of the graphics engine. In the latter case, there's obviously higher priority stuff.

And I'm also not suggesting to force some hardware hogging feature on players that aren't so fortunate to own the latest top tier GPU.

I'm just kindly asking for the opportunity to make that adjustment/decision individually!

    THANK YOU!

  16. You won't regret it.

Though I would recommend to mount the stick on your chair or on the ground between your legs. If desktop seated, an extension will make it uncomfortable.

However, if you can mount it low enough, I would recommend the longest extension you can get (with helicopters being the main focus that is).

  17. Maybe it is more a problem with how the water is rendered in DCS, then with the clouds?

I mean bodies of water leave a lot to be desired still in DCS (shallow water/surface layer being to transparent e.g.)....

It is not the most vital part of a flight sim, so I get that there is probably more important stuff to be improved. But still....

  18. For Helicopter flying, a long stick with low resistance (soft centering spring) is the best solution short of a force feedback joystick or a purpose made helicopter cyclic.

You will notice, that a longer throw will help a lot with fine control.

I'm using a VKB base with 20 cm extension and a very heavy full metal grip, which makes it top heavy and very soft/low resistance. It's day and night compared to the desktop thrustmaster joystick I had before.

    Short answer: Very good idea!!!

I found that I am usually able to hop into the back seat and at least get Jester out alive. Even if the front seater is blacked out "dead". Doesn't seem that ejecting as jester pops the front seater though, sadly he goes down with the ship.

Wether the backseater fires only his own or both seats can be set up afaik. Don't ask me how though.

As I know everyone who has commented on this post is eagerly awaiting an update...🤣

This morning I decided to do an auto cold start, something I probably haven't done this year, and lo and behold the normal switch sounds were clearly heard (you can imagine my surprise!)  I then changed the mission to a hot start and ran the mission again and yes, the switch sounds have returned.  I KNOW this sounds bizarre and I have no explanation but I'd like to say thanks again to all that contributed.

Maybe you washed your ears in the meantime? 😁😜🤗

    Good that it works again!
