  1. Before I got VR I used Stream Deck (32 keys). A plus for stream Deck is that there are users who have posted configs for different aircraft, so its relatively easy to get started quickly. However, since using VR I have not found stream deck practical. If I can't map it on the HOTAS, then I revert to using Voice Attack. In full fidelity planes clicking on the switches is fine but for the low fidelity models, like FC3, voice attack is very useful. Further if you combine it with VAICOM, then it enhances the radio coms aspect of the sim. And since using VR, 2D no longer cuts it for me.
  2. My HP experience was pretty good this time. Logged the call on Monday, received cable via courier on Tuesday. With the first cable (the original) I used the clip provided, but after reviewing the cable action after the first fault, it seemed to me that all it did was created a pivot point near the headshell of the cable as it entered the helmet. To me it appeared that by taking the headset on and off, you effectively tweaked/twisted that part of the cable up and down. You do that often enough to a wire, it will fatigue and break. The second cable (Which lasted about 7 months) I ran the cable differently, didn't use the clip and tried to make the cable as "loose" as possible so that it didn't get the movement I saw in the first cable. Which when you think about it is ridiculous since the head set is meant to be used in standing/moving situations. The third cable I have now placed a loop and when I lift the headset off and on, there is hardly any flexing of the cable around the headshell.
  3. Yes...you are quite right. You can turn a jammer on anytime and if the target is at a distance it wont be able to get range information. However I was trying to explain the scenario that Hornet 64 presented which was that when he locked the target with STT the range indication changed to 99.9
  4. Both of the above answers are correct. As you have said you are new to DCS, I'll try to expand on the answer (as I understand it). When you lock an enemy target in STT it gets a warning indicating its been locked. It responds by jamming your signal if the distance between you is large. Your radar receiver is then unable to determine the distance because the return signal is "corrupted". It can however determine the direction of where the signal is coming from. This is why your radar indicates a 99.9 range to target. As you get closer to the target, your radar will "burn through" the jamming signal and you will again re-acquire the distance information and therefore the target.
  5. Once you've tried VR you won't want to go back to the screen. Just had a cable failure on my G2 over the weekend. Can only run in 60Hz. The flicker is slightly annoying so I tried to go back to TrackIR. After 10 minutes decided I can put up with 60Hz flicker and went back to the headset. HP support was great and a new cable is on its way to me. Talking to the support guy, they have improved their cables and apparently failures have dropped by 90%. When I bought it originally, the cable failed within two weeks. HP sent out a new cable then as well but according to their records, it was still the old type. Here's hoping 3rd time lucky. Should also add to those starting out in VR that I find Voice attack to be indispensable. When you cant see keyboards etc a quick verbal command like "gears up" can be so useful as well as being able to perform multiple actions and adding VAICOM to it improves the radio usage
  6. I use multifocals as well but I have found that a pair of reading glasses from the newsagents works a treat. The frame is thinner than my normal glasses and I can take the headset off and modify voice attack or use the keyboard as needed. I'm using a 2.5 diopter reading glasses and I'm about 2.5 to 3ft away from my screen and the glasses cost under $10
  7. So currently, I'm not having any problems with my set up. However in May I was having issues and it happened after Steam updated its beta Windows Mixed Reality for Steam. I found using fpsVR that my memory was increasing and not released so within a short time it became unplayable, so I switched to the release version. I am using the beta version of Steam VR without any issues. (Just in case its not clear - there are three aspects to G2 VR: Window Mixed Reality - which is Microsofts windows 10. Mixed reality for Steam - Which is a Steam implementation and my understanding is that it does the calculation to convert the G2 inside out tracking to Steam's native tracking which is based on the Hive. And Steam VR which has the vr software and hardware talking to each other.) So to recap, currently I'm not seeing any issues. Have just played in SP mode for 2 and half hours. Running release version of Windows Mixed Reality for Steam and the Beta version of Steam VR 1.18.3
  8. Not sure if this will help you, but play around with the IPD setting under the VR tab. I find that this will change the scale of the cockpit. (IPD is probably a poor term for what this slider does)
  9. The only way I know of adjusting the cockpit size is by changing the IPD setting in the VR options page. I've got mine set to 40 (but have had it all the way to 50). I don't know either what proper dimensions are, but I set it to what I think feels right. When I first got my Reverb G2, it looked like I was in plane built for dwarves. Took a bit of investigation to work it out.
  10. Interestingly enough, MRTV guy posted a video comparing a 2080ti to a 3080 and found that for DCS there was only a 3% improvement whereas other games were improving by over 20-40%. He attributes this to DCS being more CPU driven than GPU. My view would be if you can run the G1, order the G2. I like it and am running it on a 2070 and am getting on average 40FPS and an I7 6700
  11. I have seen the same. I have found that the order of launching is important. For example, I need to launch voiceattack before DCS otherwise the mouse on G2 doesn't move. It has happened that voiceattack needed to be restarted and after restarting the mouse on DCS froze which required closing down steamVR and restarting DCS. Also if I alt tab, after completing the actions, I need to move the mouse on the screen back onto DCS and then click onto it to make it the active window for the mouse to work in G2, so I guess it depends on what you are doing when you alt-tab ie are you opening a new app or window
  12. Since the upgrade I have not been able to see aircraft on the MiG-21bis radar. Was doing the training missions yesterday before the upgrade and all was good (apart from low framerate). Has any one else seen this or is it just me?
