  1. That's interesting. I don't have a Rift, so can't compare. I also haven't had a chance to watch a video lasting a full hour comparing them, so all I can address is some of your bulletpoints where they differ greatly from my experience.

Setup: I'm sure Rift is easier, but Vive was far from difficult. I got some light stands and put the lighthouses on top. Not a whole lot more to it than that. It's not something I'd call daunting.

Product Quality: Clearly subjective. The controllers and the headset feel well made to me. I haven't seen the rift, but I'd disagree that the Vive doesn't feel like a premium product. Everything feels satisfyingly well built and quite solid to me.

Image quality: Again, I can't compare. I don't find the image blurry if I set the headset correctly. "Scale is off" - what? Scale seems perfect to me. I have experienced no tearing at all. Both headsets use low persistence displays. I don't find it too bright, personally.

Software/driver: I have experienced no lag, but there are certainly software issues with SteamVR. It seems a little unreliable at times. Also, if I have the HTC Vive software installed (to connect my phone etc) I can't use room setup in SteamVR, which I have to do often, ie if switching from roomscale to seated.

Tracking: Has worked flawlessly for me unless I've been too near a reflective surface, or in an area with a lot of objects which occlude the lighthouses. It's totally flawless under good circumstances.

Final conclusion: I think the person making the video has an agenda, and really has something against the Vive. His experience is so far from mine, and most others I've read that I suspect it lacks objectivity.

The Elite: Dangerous issue is certainly relevant. That game has severe issues with aliasing on the Vive.

  2. Does anyone have any tips for text readability in the Vive? Or is this something that'll have to wait for the next generation of HMDs. I can't even read the HUD in the A10 or the ABRIS in the Black Shark.

Also, has anyone figured out what settings affect performance the most in VR. I've found mirrors are unfortunately very costly once again.

  3. Even in real life, clouds aren't opaque... I have seen many times where the clouds are thin enough to let the sun through.... even when its raining... only thing I can really see wrong right now is there isnt a rainbow somewhere :D

Jeez, no rainbows? I thought this was supposed to be a SIM! :music_whistling:

  4. just tell me, will be possible to have Sea state conditions slaved to the preset meteo adjustments ? for example on the Ormuz map ? Would be really interesting the challenge of a pitching deck .

    Rgds.

I think it already has been implemented to an extent in DCS World.

I really liked the lighting in that video. The slight purplish hue of the sun through the clouds was fantastic. Can't wait to replay some of the Black Shark missions with that lighting.

  5. Is he displaying fpS in his streams? If not then it's just all perception until we see solid numbers

Yup. Twitch can be really funny with the smoothness of streams sometimes. The last couple of things I've streamed have been fine on my PC, fine on the recording in OBS, but the recorded video and streamed video on Twitch were pretty poor.

  6. I enjoyed every second of the live stream.

Looking at the chat once in a while I noticed some viewers had problems with the high rez stream. Lag and buffering issues because of slow internet connections.

Perhaps an idea to have the option to choose from 360 up to 1080 resolution?

Don't know if that is possible with Twitch anyway but just my two cents.

Twitch does have quality options, but you have to be a partnered streamer. Wags doesn't appear to be. The partnership requirements are quite vague, but it's along the lines of a regular stream with over 500 viewers on average. Also, you have to apply for it. They won't contact you AFAIK.

  7. i quote my earlier post ▲, so with EDGE the maximum number of objects and the FPS wont be a problem

i already did many test/benchmark with DX9 vs. DX11 settings in various applications (unfortunatly not with EDGE yet :D), and the conclusion was the +400% FPS with DX11

    DX9: 20FPS

    DX11: amazing 100FPS !

    erm... That's either 500%, or you'd get 80FPS in DX11

    Sorry for being pedantic.

  8. Well I already have it, but would use mine to try to get an OUTSIDER into the sim :)

These are really old (2012). I can't remember if they predate DCS: World or not.

I know the 6th doesn't count because it has no flyable, but I just wanted people to see it, because I like it:music_whistling:. Sorry about the information bars. I don't know how to remove them, and as I say, these were taken years ago.
