  1. Also note - I do not have a VR/track IR/etc system connected at this time. As a matter of fact I do not have a joystick currently either - simple keyboard and mouse for now. Getting a joystick in the next few days + DCS F16C, however unless I can resolve this issue, I might re-think this as at it's current state, the view system is unusable :(
  2. Hi all, Just downloaded DCS after many, many years away from flight sims. Fired it and it runs, sounds and looks great. Getting re-familiarized with the controls again and realized that the mouse look is buggered. What I mean is the more I seem to look around the cabin or the outside view, the worse it would get. It seems to degrade specifically when looking towards left/right-back. E.g. inside the cabin, it starts looking like a bit of a lean animation. That seems to be the view which also starts causing issues in the outside view as well. The interesting thing is that resetting the view (5 on number pad) seems to fix the issue temporarily, until it comes back again. The issue is really around speed of mouse movement vs view movement. Initially 1x mouse movement = 1x view movement. But as the issue progresses, 1x movement could be 0.1x view movement or 10x view movement. There are also specific angles/etc where the view would tend to get stuck... I never recall having such issues in old DCS: A-10c, KA-52, F-15, IL-2 or any other flight sims. I also don't have any move/view related issues in any other games. This is a standard USB mouse - nothing fancy. Does anyone else have this issue? I've looked around and saw a bunch of old posts around mouse refresh rates and such, but I do not have any software that comes with the mouse to control that + don't think this is a hardware issue. Seems like a software bug/etc where they are trying to create more difficult areas to look at due to head/neck movement? Is there a way to turn this off? ===== PS. simple steps to reproduce in F2 (external view): Press F2 Press Numpad 5 to reset the view Move the mouse horizontally on the mouse pad - no issues with the view Move the mouse so to view the aircraft from the back/side Move the mous e to observe the aircraft from the back half - either/both sides/top/bottom Expected: camera/view moves smoothly Actual: camera/view begins to 'catch' or slow-down around certain points. Sometimes it stutters. This is present in both su-25 frogfoot and p-51 (free aircraft) in the DCS world steam edition version 2.5.5.3561 (downloaded & installed few days back from steam). Thanks!
  3. Thanks so much for your explanation!! Tried the mission again and went much better! Could actually find some targets with TGP in IR mode and could actually figure out where it was looking at in relation to the map! :D Was awesome! All the way up to when I got shot down :( One question though - what is this "Mk 1 eyeball" you are referring to? Do you just mean eyes? If so - do you recon that zooming in would be sort-of cheating? Regardless though, thanks so much!!! :D
  4. Hey everyone! Had my first proper flight in a proper mission - Defect Camp Yankee (I know... took me a while) a few days back and it was pretty awesome overall, except for the horrible confusion lol There are 2 things that I'm confused about the most: 1) Finding targets visually: What is the best way of doing it? I'm trying to randomly look around on the surface using my targeting pod, but that seems nearly a waste of time, because unless I approximately know where the targets are, finding them would a like finding a needle in a haystack. Also - is there a way of seeing (on the map) where the lighting pod is looking at in relation of the aircraft - so you can visually line up the TGP view with the map (looking at hte map view) and then just look around that area with the actual TGP cam? And last question here (I tried searching for an answer, but couldn't find anything useful) - is there a way of switching the TGP/MAV cams to infrared? There must be right? (if I remember correctly) That's what I used to do all the time in Black Shark, since I couldn't find anything otherwise... 2) Finding targets based on coordinates provided by wingmen/allies: Every now and then I would get messages of threats spotted - and after looking around, I found this link with a guide on creating custom waypoints and flightplans (http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=68704&highlight=minutes&page=4), but is that what I should be doing if I simply want to add new markers to the map, just to help myself orient better on the map? Thanks! :):)
  5. Hehe, alright, thanks for teh headsup! And yeh - the allan key procedure looks quite.. simple lol
  6. Oh alright, awesome! Thanks!! I think I'll have to get it afterall :P :D
  7. Thanks so much for your replies guys! :D Sorry didn't reply for a while - ..damn work... 1 last question - the afterburner detent - what is it for? I'm not really sure... I know that a-10c doesnt have afterburner (lol), but what happens if I fly fighters - do I have to move the throttle past the afterburner detent to get the afterburner?
  8. Hey is it still available? How much do you recon the shipping to Australia might be? Under $100?
  9. Hi everybody! Still trying to make up my mind on whether to by the HOTAS or not... What I'm worried about the most if the resistance of the throttle - since I cannot bolt it down to the table, it must be gentle enough to be usable (without any extra downforce) in a non-bolted-down state.. Any advice/feedback on that? The 2nd point is the durability - it has been mentioned in a few reviews, that the plastic buttons, etc seem quite fragile and non-durable. That is worrying, since the HOTAS costs around $500 as you know.. I've currently got a Logitech 3d extreme pro - it is my first ever joystick and I've had it for around 6 years now with no issues at all. Would I be correct to assume that the warthog hotas would be more durable than it? Thanks! :):joystick:

    :(

Went flying again this weekend - this time on a grumman aa1a here in Australia, Melbourne (my 2nd time) and have been thinking about going for my private pilot licence, only to realize that a private pilot license training course here in Melbourne starts from $22.000 .. which is an absolute no-go zone for me... ..Does anyone know of any government supported courses/grants/anything that would help me in getting a flying license? Anything but joining the airforce.. Looking around I couldn't find anything and that made me :( lol --- On the bright side though, I've been looking for ways to easy the pain, and since I decided that loads of booze and drugs aren't for me, I've been (for like 100th time) been eyeing the Warthog HOTAS and Saitek Pro pedals /endrant (just needed to let it out) :music_whistling:
  11. That is true... (I'm a junior dev myself) - there'll always be issues.. I guess I'll just have to learn how to fly :P
  12. Oh, and thanks for that ^^ ivanwfr! I'll try checking that out if I still can't pass the tute - although makes me wonder, why would the dev. team not have done that? :(
  13. Thanks for all your tips!! :D Dloading the latest full install version right now.. a few hours to go lol Hopefully the tutorials have been fixed there!
  14. Somehow I don't see DCS series working well with an AI pilot/gunner - that is why KA-50 was such a good choice.. leaving half the work to AI is gonna cause issues.. and a LOT of frustration :/
  15. ..and umm, how do I find out the version?
  16. Not really sure - but got in on 20th of March.. Was this fixed in the later versions?
  17. Hi everybody! Just started learning (again, after a looong break) how to handle a10 in dcs a-10c and was trying to play through a few tutorial missions (only tried a few).. most of the ones that start from the ground are alright, but the ones that start in the air are not working as they should I think: I start up the mission (hands off the controls) and after it starts up, I hear the instructor voice saying that its all good and the plane is in autopilot, when it is actually spinning uncontrollably and plummeting towards the ground... which is not.. ideal And another issue with the basic flight and turns tutorial - when asked to do a smooth 360 turn - the tutorial does no progress any further - I am neither being informed that I have not satisfied that requirements of that task, nor that I have completed it successfully - the tutorial just hands there - surely it can't be hard to put in like a 60 second wait delay, after which the user would get told to try again or something... Just sayin - it's quite frustrating.. Otherwise, great sim!
  18. I've got trackIR with trackClip Pro (don't like an infrared emitter, emitting crap in my face if you know what I mean) and it is awesome. I was also having doubts, and for 160$ there was a lot of though before I've finally bought it (around 2 years actually), but it is great. It did take some time to get used to and every title is a little different (in A-10 I have found locking the Z and Y axis very helpful), but overall it works great. IMHO, rather than getting a new joystick, getting trackIR is the priority, but that's just my opinion.
  19. I understand that this is BETA, and this was just left out at this stage, but I though I'd let everyone know anyway (you've probably noticed it already anyway). There are no sounds or vibration (as far as I can tell) when my a-10 is getting hit by AA rounds. Now I've listened to that interview of an A-10 pilot getting shot by AA rounds in Iraq and she said that it was "very loud" so I assume that some sort of audio and maybe vibration/movement feedback would be reasonable after being hit by 10-20 rounds, since most of the time I can't even tell if I was hit or not (until I crash and burn  ). :music_whistling:
  20. ..wow, just wow. And I don't even know how to start up the plane yet - starting on runway for now. For me its usually something like this: first take off->guns->navigation->more guns->more stuff which is useful->more stuff->more guns->startup :P
  21. It's true! ...but maybe its all in my head
  22. Hi everybody! I wouldn't be surprised if nobody was interested :music_whistling: , but I have to share this - my first ever successful attack run on 6 APCs using mainly unguided rockets and the cannon, without getting shot or damaging the aircraft on landing :D I've also used the cluster bombs, however their accuracy seemed pretty low (maybe it was the fact that I wasn't really flying straight) and they didn't do any damage. Oh yeh, and somehow, after landing in the replay my plane taxis off the runway on grass, when actually I taxied off and parked using taxiways.. :D Firing Rage_1_Unguided Missiles and Cluster Bombs.trk
  23. ..but then again: http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a299/usmilobserver/Diverse%20A-10s/IdahoStatesman_04.jpg
  24. oh, sorry, this is the link that wasn't working: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/img/technology/A10C/HUD-1.jpg Thanks for the suggestions - I'll try them and see if that helps. Also StrongHarm - I can't say anything towards that, since I don't have much experience at all, but judging by how far behind the back of the seat was from the default position (^^ the link earlier in this post), if would seem like the pilot is flying, while leaning forward...
