I need help calculating target Aspect Angle, given the information the Tomcat's systems give you.
I've been doing a calculation of:
180 - relative bearing / ATA - difference in heading between target and self = AA
i.e. 180 - ATA - HCA = AA
Is this correct?
Is there an easier way?

Bumped for Dev visibility.

He definitely doesn’t manage scan volume properly, and I think that the scan low and scan medium-low commands are buggy.
Agree on this. He’s effectively using TWS MAN mode and he never changes the scan volume to best track targets. We desperately need the TWS AUTO mode working so that at least the system will work on our favour when Jester doesn’t.

Can anyone help to explain the 4 possible weapon steering types that can be shown / selected for the pilot by the RIO.
Maybe someone knowledgeable can fill in the gaps....
It's shown in the window to the upper right of the TID:
LD CLSN - How is the steering commanded and what does it do? how does it differ from lead pursuit? Never seen this in the window yet.
CLSN - Selected by RIO using the push button below - Commands collision course with target??
LD PURST - Selected with an STT lock with weapon selected. What's the definition of a lead pursuit course in this case, and what specifically does it do except point my nose (and weapon) ahead of target?
PURST - How is this selected and how does it differ from Lead Pursuit? Not seen this either.
Loving the RIO systems, many thanks guys.

It appears that the ACM modes do work with guns, but the radar diamond on the hud doesn't move around to show you which ACM mode you are in
is this intended and if so why?
Because the diamond is used to indicate the 2000ft (or something?) Range prediction in guns mode. It can’t be used for the radar scan as well.
-
Seems that to get any of the ACM modes (other than PLM) to lock a target, I have to select Sidewinder, get the lock, then cycle back to guns.
Maybe as intended, since the hud diamond box is used for conflicting purposes in each mode.

;3843935']Turns out this an ED issue' date=' the GBU-24 won't work with any aircraft, we'll have to wait for them to fix it.[/quote']
GBU-24 Paveway III will be added to the hornet at a later date and a fix will come at that point I assume. I guess it will be properly modelled with differences from the Paveway II series. Looking forward to it.

The way to do it for now, is to designate the target visually and then extend back out to 8 miles or so, then run in back to loft on your designated point.
Obviously, this isn’t how we want it. I’m not sure you can designate a ST with the computer in any other way though. Possibly with the IP function, haven’t played with that yet.

I realize this is a bit nit picky 3 days after release but hey...
It seems the MANDATORY ATTACK option on the TGT DATA Cap menu is missing... I can't find it. The DO NOT ATTACK is there and it shows correct symbol on TID.
The 'Mandatory Attack' should force the WCS to add a TWS target to it's targeting list. Pretty useful as detailed in the manual.
Any ideas? Naquaii, mainly talking to you.
Cheers.

If the TCS is slaved to radar STT the pipper will not be displayed, this was a late addition before EA release.
Excellent. Thanks for your input Naquaii.
Any ETA on TWS Centroid steering for VDI?

+1
It behaves differently than all the pre-release videos. I got it to display intermittently by playing with the TCS slave switch. Not sure how it's supposed to work now.

Loving the F-14 so far but noticed a problem with the Maneuver Slats indication.
According to the manuals, both Heatblurs and the real NATOPs, the Maneuver Slats should show a red and white cross hatched indication when deployed. (It's also the same cross hatch as 'OFF' condition, maybe that's where confusion is)
It doesn't do this ATM. Slats show as retracted when actually they are deployed. This can make it hard to know config.
Attached shots from manual and in game to illustrate. The in game shot has maneuver flaps and slats actually deployed, but no slat indication.
Cheers.
-
Fairly certain the flaps are UP or DOWN in real life. There are no intermediate settings...
Flaps are able to be set continuously anywhere from UP to DOWN. It’s just that SOP was to use only full up/down.
Needs an axis binding, but I’ve got no axis left anyway.
-
We need more bindings.
Bingo knob, hud trim, clock start stop, rad alt pointer etc all essential for people with mfds etc

Yeah, sry, talked to the Avionics coder, it's not in yet but will be soon.
Ok good stuff. Good luck with the release.

;3833272']Great find sir' date=' I'll make sure the team see this.[/quote']
Ok, thanks. I would have pointed it out weeks ago, but guessed it would get a simple fix at some point.
Many thanks. Looking excellent otherwise.

It does actually, landing and takeoff has 5 degree pitch lines from -30 to +30 degrees and then 10 degree pitch lines. The other modes has 30 degree pitch lines.
That’s the HUD I’m referring to the VDI.
I’ll find the natops reference. Give me a minute.
-
So looking at the various videos I’ve noticed that in landing mode the VDI doesn’t have 5 degree pitch line increments, just the standard 10 degree increments.
The NATOPs manual describes and illustrates 5 degree increments when in LDG mode. Is this accurate? Maybe a later or earlier mod that HB isn’t implementing. Seems strange.

It’s gone strangely quiet on the Hornet front.....
Maybe we’ll have to just enjoy the F-14 this week. I can’t imagine we’ll be getting LTWS, Jdams and mission card this week, but willing to be proven wrong.

Just finished it. This video is awesome
2nd that.
Required viewing for anyone serious about their systems and procedural stuff. Awesome.

Truly excellent video Jabbers. Well done.
Now that's what we've been waiting for.
Just starting the Spiceman 2 hour 44 min! RIO school vid......... happy days (people...it's got a LANTIRN section....!)

That would be most useful , thanks. Out of interest, what’s an AVIA display? (Cobra mentioned it)
I still think there must be some method of pointing my radar at specific AWACS reported pos.

Err No, should it? I can get it to show Target course and relative bearing.
Victory you wouldn't be able to explain what the various steering commands do? E.g LD Pursuit, Pursuit, LD Collision and Collision?
I've spent all afternoon trying to sort it out in my mind.
