  1. To be completely honest, there is no "cloak and dagger" from our side. Unfortunately some stuff in regards to Steam etc are out of our hands.

Since announcing the early access and starting pre-order we've never said anything else than before the end of winter. When we have a date you'll have it, trust me.

I appreciate all the hard work going into this module Naquaii, but it’s frustrating to hear there’s still no hard date, that’s all. It’s been a VERY long pre order period, and it’s been ambiguously hinted that it’s ‘very close’ at almost every point. There was lots of speculation before Christmas of an Xmas release, and the fact that this wasn’t squashed immediately by HB is a case in point. It must have been clear to you guys this wasn’t going to happen in any way.

Don’t mean to sound ungrateful but the excitement for this one is high.

I can't be the only one who finds comments like this staggering at this point.

We've been told for weeks that a release date is literally right around the corner. We are now right around the corner from the very public deadline...so what exactly are we waiting for at this point?

Yea, I kinda assumed the announcement will be made in the newsletter. I could be wrong of course but I'm guessing we won't know till next week at the earliest. Normally I'm the first to squash the hype, but I let it get the best of me when Cobra said they will release the release date in a few days( i know with the disclaimer pending ED approval) But after Wags revealed what was probably an internal target date of end of Feb it seemed a forgone conclusion that ED would approve revealing the release date. Oh well, disappointment strikes again. 26 days until March 20th...

    Good points both.

  2. Unless specifically announced by Cobra and us at Heablur I wouldn't put too much faith into any date for all our sakes! :-)

It’s about time to announce a date then. Surely it’s close enough to the end of winter for you to have a planned date.

If it’s March 20th then say so, if only to put the speculation to rest. For all our sakes.

The constant cloak and dagger is tiresome.

  3. I have a dream...

I have the dream that ED could communicate as well as the people and boss of Heatblur Simulations!

It is gratifying for us to see how Heatblur communicate so effectively with the simers community. Feel that it is worrying to keep everyone informed of the progress of the module (F-14), to have regular updates and to release most likely a module within the announced deadlines.

For info I am a real rotor head, my passion goes to the rotary wings but I didn't take long to order the F-14. The achievement is simply beautiful and I find that it's the best that I can do to thank and to motivate the Heatblur team.

Thanks to you for the work already produced. To have understood that keeping the simers informed of the evolution of a product is an intelligent but also commercial approach that generates a simple "Win Win" effect.

What is sometimes really missing with ED.

Thx a lot guys and long life to the Sweden magic team !

    A Belgian fan !

To be fair to ED, the communication from Wags regarding the Hornet has been very good lately. Mini updates at least every week...

  4. Understood. But in that case, why roll in on the target at 45 degrees dive and 450knots.

Wouldn't a level delivery be just as effective?

Dive delivery profiles are more accurate. Simple.

Remember AUTO and CCIP are merely ‘aiming’ mechanisms. You can completely separate them from the ‘profile’ used, be it level, dive, loft etc.

Too many people assume AUTO is level and CCIP dive, which is not always the case. In AUTO youre using a defined target position and that will be far more accurate than CCIP in most cases.

  5. He will eventually switch back to TWS as that's the only radar mode he can currently use. The only other option is to disable him and do the backseat work yourself.

Unfortunately we do not have the resources to fully flesh Jester out at EA release but we will continue to add to him and our goal is to have all modes available, or at least most of them.

Ok, thanks. So as long as I can disable him that's fine for now.

So just to confirm right...the other radar modes are in and working, it's just that Jester can't use them?

    Thanks for your input.

  6. Currently Jester is TWS only as we're focusing more on making him function well before we add in the ability for him to use all radar modes later.

(Forgot to add that in the manual, will do so.)

    Ok, somewhat disappointing.

So does that mean he will always return to TWS when the player moves back to the front seat?

Does he have control over other settings at the moment?

  7. They are talking about single player. You can switch the seats as soon as you want in single player.

It's a good point actually: Imagine the RIO sets up his radar for a 4 bar 60deg 80 miles scan. Now, let's say I go back to the RIO position and change that to 40 miles, will the RIO stay with those settings for the rest of the flight and be blind 40+ miles out or will he change them again when the RWR picks something up, for example?

Yeah it's not really range scale and azimuth scan that I'm worried about, Jester can use initiative here, that's ok with me. And remember that the Jester radial menu we've seen has options for range and scan settings anyway.....

More importantly it's things like the desired radar mode etc. A read through of the manual shows how many options and settings the RIO has to play with.

What if I want to stay in PD Search mode or RWS, but the RIO thinks TWS AUTO is better?

What if I want to display Launch Zone symbols on the TID and jester doesn't?

I want to use the CAP panel to display certain data in the TID data readout, will jester overrule?

What if I need the TCS to be set in Narrow FOV, will jester reset it to WIDE anytime?

There's a lot to think about. Sure hope HB have a simple solution.

  8. I am guessing Jester doesn't change things unless you tell him too through the interface. Just a guess though.

Well I remember reading that Jester will have some intelligence in selecting radar modes etc and will use initiative. I’m concerned that we’ll setup the displays and modes etc, flip to and from the front seat and find everything rearranged.

There’s an option to make Jester less talkative (see manual), but no info on this function.

  9. For those of us who play mainly single player, how exactly does Jester handle player intervention in his 'territory'?

As the pilot/player I'm going to want to play around with the back seat functions and fiddle with radar options, tweak settings, change display options on the TID etc... So will those settings be maintained for me once I move back to the front seat or does Jester move them back to how 'he' wants them. I hope the former... However I can see that Jester may want to use his best judgement.

I'm more looking forward to being a RIO than the pilot, but how frustrating will this be in SP?

  10. I'll risk it! (and run away while you take a shower....)

Come on, guys, is that session classified? Are we going to see videos? Jabbers? Anyone? (violently shaking in withdrawal, barely contained by the reading of the manual...) :D

We need a start up video, or an intercept ran from the back seat.... Come on content creators, create........

  11. Well actually he wasn't, I was one of the chosen people to look at it.

I was instructed to not disclose further details, except that I will also receive a copy of the Tomcat so I can review latter.

;3791587']I better not find a single typo in that manual guys...

I'm taking your two replies as genuine since you were two of the first to reply to Cobra's request.

    Lucky gits.

Just make sure you turn it round quick, so the rest of us can have a look.....

  12. We could actually use one or two more sets of eyes to help with the copy editing pass. Anyone interested and a quick reader? :)

I'm off on holiday all Feb, and can help with proof reading if that's what you need.

I'm a native english speaker, fly left seat in a 737-800 IRL, so am reasonably tech minded and used to reading aviation docs and manuals.

    Happy to help.

  13. In relation to another bug with waypoint names on the kneeboard, there's another problem with the calculated ETAs.

The kneeboard shows weird and seemingly random ETAs for your routing. Seems to have happened since the last update or two.

Attached are some screen shots, both from a Red Flag Campaign mission and a simple nav route of my own. Both routes have messed up ETAs of B2 B3 etc, the actual times of flight between the waypoints are accurate.

  14. This was one of the best updates thus far. Good work ED Team!

Yeah, things are shaping up nicely.

Can't say how much I appreciate all of these mini-updates. It's a breath of fresh air among all flight sims, commercial and military. Most devs can go months between even small updates.

    Well done Wags and team.

  15. Generally speaking, it isn't done.

Modern aircraft that accomplish what you suggesting need 2 radios minium, or 1 radio and MIDS at a stretch.

I've known missions to be scrubbed after dropping to 1 radio and they weren't doing anything fancy.

Aircraft that usually have one radio are going to be trainers so such a radio suite isn't required.

You pre-brief all your frequencies and assign them "Button Numbers" and as the mission progresses, lead will tell the flight "Push Button 2" .. "Push Button 3" and then check in the entire flight after each freq change.

Yes thankyou, that's what I expected.

So let's say we are in a training environment in the real world. Can you then expect to hear lots of inter-flight specific communication on the tuned freq? Stuff like formation, ops/fuel checks etc that can be heard on the freq. (be it ATC / another controller etc) that only apply to one flight? I imagine that would clutter up even a routine ATC frequency.

I guess everything would be pre-briefed or done with hand signals?

  16. The bank angle limiter, only applies for when the auto pilot is engaged. It limits bank angle to 30 (NAV setting) or 60 degrees (TAC setting).

It might get implemented when 'Coupled' A/P mode gets added, along with FD bomb mode. Not sure how you selected it, because the push button doesn't work atm.

In any case, it won't help you in the landing config.

  17. +1

I'm sure we'll get this at some point. It doesn't look to be near the top of the priority list at the moment though....

Will be very useful when implemented. There are a few related items such as this HUD designation, the Flight Director bombing mode and AGR ranging that will all add to the experience.

  18. Hey, I'm aware this doesn't really apply to the hornet, since it's got 2 radio plus MIDS...

However, in aircraft that only have one Comms radio, of which there are many A/C in DCS, what's the most realistic way to handle the freqs/channels?

In an authentic scenario we will have many different frequencies and outside agencies to talk to, as well as the inter-flight housekeeping stuff.

Typically you'd use COMM 2 for own flight communications and COMM 1 for outside agencies like ATC and AWACS, and possibly a common 'Strike' frequency for the whole package...

So with only one radio, what's the authentic way to manage stuff? Presumably you'd move the flight from ATC to AWACS to Strike, but I guess this involves lots of frequency changes and separate check-ins, you'd also be cluttering up the active frequency with intra flight calls for formation changes etc and admins comm. Is this just accepted IRL?

So how's this done in real life with only 1 radio?
