  1. No offense mate, but the first paragraph contradicts the second. If you do feel you're being taken advantage of then you could refrain from preordering. The transparency of this FAQ is great, albeit worrying that we're this far down the road and there's no real understanding on what features are expected to ship in due time. The benefits and requirements are usually something that'll be assessed, by a product team, as part of the inception work and that step either hasn't happened or hasn't yet been communicated to the CMs and the rest of us.
  2. This is the key thing. I'm sure the Chinook will be great because DCS is, hands down, the best helicopter experience of any consumer simulator on the market. What shouldn't happen however is that we get to 1-2 years down the road, or further, and no progress has been made due to improper prioritisation of work. Please don't make the same mistakes as the supercarrier.
  3. iOS is Apple's phone based OS, did you mean macOS?
  4. Sorry, another one from me just dumping some thoughts. This is a good idea. It'd be great to see a schedule at some point. Given the main post says and this video answers 14 of those questions, presuming these will be released on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to coincide with newsletters at or around 14-20 questions per video, that's around 2-4 years before we get all answers. Is it even worth answering questions at that point since they'll be made redundant in the way of updates? Is the intention here to release updates first and then answer related questions as a means of marketing those changes? Having at least some guidance around what the video release cadence is would be valuable info as all we currently have to go on is "X will be covered in another video". Collating the questions and answers in a PDF would be a great way to get all the info out at once while the videos by Wags could supplement that with more of a personal touch.
  5. That clarifies things. I wasn't sure if the list above was a set of handpicked questions, or an exhaustive list of all questions related to performance. I'd have expected more, but appreciate that it's likely broken down into subcategories also as this Q&A seems to be more on the graphical side with some multi threading questions in there.
  6. Are there plans to release all questions that were submitted? I'd imagine it'd be similar to what Navigraph do with their flight sim surveys. It'd be interesting to see what topics were covered and to get some touch points around the most popular categories/subjects. In all honesty, it's taken 7 months to get any update on this. It's more likely that many of the questions are no longer relevant, as is clear in this video.
  7. What's this, a well written and clear announcement that answers all questions?! As usual, I'll not pick this up until the ground AI warfare is improved, but it is great to see all info up front. I also personally like the pricing breakdown. It's a great way to lower the entry requirements for newer players or those with less funds to spend. Additionally, the map is over 3 times the size of Syria for essentially the same price. That's hardly worth complaining about as some are by saying ED are "selling 1 map as 4".
  8. Who knows? They won't document things in a clear and concise manner, in a single pinned thread.
  9. I've recently transitioned from a Reverb G2 to a Varjo Aero and gifted the G2 to a friend. I was unlucky enough to have bought the Aero like 1-2 weeks before it was permanently reduced in price, so that hurt a bit. Still, it was worth the money. All in all it has been a great experience so far with the Aero. While at first I did notice the red/blue shift, I've gotten used to that now and have also made adjustments with the aforementioned optical adjustment tool to remediate the issue a bit. My headband had an issue whereby the left adjustment dial wasn't locking in place so that was freely clicking/moving one over when gaming. Varjo didn't mess around as they first clarified whether I wanted to send the unit back or attempt the replacement myself. Once I'd confirmed my comfort in replacing the headband, they immediately dispatched a replacement which arrived several days later. It was tricky to install but I managed in the end. As for FPS, I'm hitting a consistent 90FPS while running mbucchia's VFR and a focus_multiplier of 1.6 - although I do also have a 13900KF, 4090 and 64GB RAM. One thing worth mentioning, although I think they've stopped selling them now, is that Varjo, the cheeky devils, have an almost 100% markup on Valve's Base stations. When I purchased my Aero, Varjo offered "discounted" base stations that were still £100 more expensive, per base station, than buying from Valve directly. If you're considering an Aero then absolutely make sure that you purchase the base stations from Valve directly at a more reasonable price. The Aero can't really be turned off without unplugging it so I've got the Aero and both base stations running on some ESPHome flashed smart plugs that are configured in HomeAssistant. There's an automation job in HA so that both base stations will automatically turn on/off when I turn on/off the Aero smart plug
  10. I'll never understand why ED are completely incapable of documenting some of the switches available to DCS' binary. This is the first I've heard of --force_varjo_VR Even Varjo themselves have documented DCS behaviour better than ED themselves https://varjo.com/vr-lab/varjo-support-in-dcs/
  11. The multithreading FAQ does specifically reference P and E cores, so it certainly doesn't do itself any favours
  12. Exactly. Let's stop gatekeeping things. Instead, let's allow server owners to override local client spotting settings to ensure fairness, much like you can with dots in missions, and let's allow people to do whatever the hell they want to adjust and tweak their settings.
  13. In various Discords, some report that the ping issue resolves itself if you disable voice chat. As of this moment it's speculation, but worth trying out if you're affected by ping issues.
  14. Thank god for Valve's superior CDN
  15. 2. 8. xyzxyz abcabc MAJOR MINOR PATCH BUILD This gives you an idea as to the rationale. https://semver.org/ Major, Minor and Patch (2, 8 and 1, respectively) will be selected manually to signify the next revision of a binary or application. Build will be automatically generated to represent the build, that is the automated compilation of source code to the application binary itself. Basically, each increment to the Minor version (.8) takes us a step closer to the major version of 3.
  16. It's standard practice nowadays. Though, I presume dedicated servers would then become an issue unless you create a new account for each server. To be honest, DCS is one of the only few games, if not the only, that I can think of which requires you to log-in just to host a server. The convenience of having a truly headless server outweighs the benefits of having a web GUI. This would even allow GSPs to host DCS servers for those who don't know how to or aren't comfortable in managing a server via config files. For those of us who are comfortable, we'd probably use Docker anyway to containerize and automate many instances. For GSPs, I'd imagine this would bring a decent amount of business to those GSPs and that may also give DCS some more advertising. Maybe there's some architectural or licensing limitation - even then, a dedicated server shouldn't need module licensing, in theory.
  17. Only immediate solution. If this is indeed the issue then I think a decent long term solution might be to remove the account linking between profiles and dedicated servers and then impose a max session limit to restrict how many active sessions a user can have at once - this limit being 1 of course. For dedicated servers, by removing the sign-in requirement, these just become far more manageable for server admins who are used to automating and using config files over the current hacky web GUI. Obviously more of a time investment though as it requires updates on multiple fronts.
  18. Why though? What benefit are you getting from using two different versions? Standalone modules can't be used in Steam anyway so you've lost nothing here really.
  19. I recently reinstalled DCS on Steam and noticed this same issue. The following causes DCS to crash --force_enable_VR --force_OpenXR Whereas this allows DCS to run --force_enable_VR
  20. I wonder what's included in the maintenance. Is ED finally moving into the 21st century by having a scalable AuthN and AuthZ solution so that pre-orders and updates don't knock the game offline?
  21. Multicrew is here with the latest beta. I haven't tested it yet as I no longer have friends
