  1. Thanks for all the helpful replies. It's worth noting that DCS World works perfectly on the following Mac gear: Mac Pro 5,1 (Early 2009) - 2 x 2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon - 48 GB RAM - Radeon RX 590 Mac OS X 10.15 - Bootcamp - Windows 10 - 2 x SSD 1TB - T16000M HOTAS - DCS World & Open Beta - ______
  2. I'm thinking about VR for DCS and I'm wondering if the esteemed members here, have opinions on Apple's forthcoming headset. Particularly: 1.41 inches diagonal, over 5000 nits of brightness and 4,000 pixels per inch. noted links: https://www.macrumors.com/2023/05/30/apple-ar-vr-headset-display-specs/ https://www.cultofmac.com/818515/rumored-4k-screens-apple-ar-vr-headset-offer-real-world-clarity/?utm_source=newsletters.cultofmac.com&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=apple-vr-ar-headset-might-offer-real-world-clarity https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidphelan/2023/05/31/apple-reality-pro-vr-headset-new-report-claims-massive-leak/?sh=1f1e65807618
  3. A summation: Running DCS in WIN10 in BootCamp in a Mac Pro 5,1. Works fine but it's a hobby, to get it all tee'd up in the first place. Moving the DCSWorld and DCSWorld OpenBeta folders from C drive to a new empty SSD. Works, but had to run cleanup and repair every time, to get either to open. It seems that even though clean up and repair should tell DCS where all the files are, something is not perfect... Compete re-install of both DCS folders on the new SSD. Works much better, happy now. New Sapphire Radeon RX 590 Nitro whoseadoofa something something. I am getting a consistent 70 fps in a clear sky, at altitude and up to 75~76fps. Around 55~65 fps in cities and forests. Note, if I try and adjust the graphics card settings with the AMD Adrenalin software, it all goes slower. So "Standard" for best results! Great forum this, thanks for the advice and comments!
  4. Yes thanks for that - I'm a Mac guy, I don't understand the Windows world, so running WIN10 inside Bootcamp, on my Mac is an adventure into the unknown.
  5. An update - that worked - thanks to all, for the good advice. I may be looking at the world through rose tinted glasses, but I detect a higher frame rate in DCS now, in the order of 62fps where I was getting about 58fps before. Mind you, the reason for moving the games was that the SSD I was using was very full, less than 10% free. So now I have 2 x 1Tb SSDs - Win10 etc on one - 82Gb used and DCS and DCS Open Beta on the other - 822Gb used. And being enthused, about all of this, I've just picked up a Sapphire Radeon RX 590 8GB NITRO + which is a step up from the RX 580 I'm using now and promises speed gains in the order of 10~15% I think I've got the bug now, I'll be overclocking soon and exploding the computer !
  6. Last questions, should I move the saved games folder as well? and delete the original program folders from the old drive before I run "DCS Repair" (full) on the new drive ?
  7. Thank you for that, I assume I can just cut/paste the DCS and DCS Open Beta program folders, into the new empty drive?, or do I have to put a folder structure on the new drive?
  8. I'm still a newb when it comes to WIN10, because I'm running DCS and DCS Open Beta, in WIN10, inside Bootcamp on a Mac Pro 5,1. All on a 1TB SSD. Now it's nearly full. I've got all the maps and a lot of the planes. My idea is to get another 1TB SSD and - Uninstall, DCS and DCS Open Beta, then completely reinstall them, on the new 1TB SSD. So Win10 on one SSD and the DCS games on the other SSD. Hours and hours, yes I know, but a clean install for the games. Good idea? Or pitfalls and disaster? Any comments gratefully received.
  9. Thank BigNewy and gents, I noticed a Options.lua.Backup from August last year, in there and copied the contents to the options lua and now everything is fine. Thanks every one for the prompt response. Or as the Aussies say "Bonza Cobba Doodah!"
  10. I screwed the display settings in Options, now DCS (stable 2.7) crashes on start I have 24"/30"/24" monitors and I was trying to get the middle 30" to be 1 screen with the other two blank/unused. I just put different settings in the options inside the game and now, no boot... Can I reset the options whilst DCS is closed, or copy a file from my open beta install (they are set up very similarly) ? or do I do a fresh installation?
  11. Thinking about this, I tried the old .lua (6400 x 1600 and 3 different monitors) with DCS OB 2.7.5 and nope, still knackers the sea. Ah well, Hopefully DCS will factor in a, three different sized monitors, setting in the future. hint hint...
  12. On thinking about this, I tried the old .lua (6400 x 1600 and 3 different monitors) with DCS OB 2.7.5 and nope, still knackers the sea. Ah well, Hopefully DCS will factor in a, three different sized monitors, setting in the future. hint hint...
  13. Yes, until I save enough lucre for a new set up, it's all I have. I was intrigued to see, that whilst one thread was obviously the main DCS one, there were seven doing a bit of work and eight idling along.
  14. As a newbie in both DCS and Windows, I thought I'd try to see what DCS was doing to my 2009, 8 core (16 virtual) Mac. So I had task manager, open on top of DCS flying, and this is what I got. For some reason the screen shots, do not show the DCS content, on my middle monitor, but no matter. You may have to zoom into, the images to see the detail of the task manager. Monitors 1920 x 1200 - 2560 x 1600 - 1920 x 1200 CPU and GPU any comments?
  15. What a good idea, Middle Earth, imagine the Sauron Squadron, and Orcs flying A-10s
  16. my 10 cents, Viet Nam, Cambodia, Laos, Burma,Thailand
  17. 35 years for me too, I started with F/A-18 hornet on a 3.5" floppy I've watched DCS over the years, from afar, and when I looked at the state of play recently, DCS had come so far and become so awesome, I had to do something about it. I'm a Mac fanboy - Windows hurts my head, but needs must. I can't afford a Super-PC so I found an old Mac, that was pretty super in it's day and I'm running DCS inside Win 10, inside BootCamp, inside OSX. And it's stellar! Having been in I.T. and I.S. over the years, I know how servicing users, who have little or no understanding, of the technical challenges in software and hardware, can be a thankless task. And we're not allowed to put them out of their misery. When I saw this thread, I had to add my 10 cents worth. Such is the brilliance of this project, I've done what I can and I've purchased a stack of great Mods and Terrains and I'm quietly and happily learning, learning, learning. So a huge thank you from me and keep up the good work.
  18. It's in DCS World Beta v2.7.3 and up, so will come to DCS World stable... eventually.
  19. Now that I've sorted my textures, I've been playing with skins, for any that are interested, here is my Green Croc for the SU-25T:
  20. On thinking, yes there is an overhead of "non displayed" pixels. Hopefully DCS will factor in a, three different sized monitors, setting in the future. hint hint...
  21. Cool, that's a great set up! Mine are aligned at the top edge, now you've got me thinking, about pulling the side monitors down. The reason I did top, was I thought that I'd see more sky and opponents up there, and less side of cockpit. But then, so far I spend 80% of my time, figuring out how to make this all work on a 12 yr old Mac and 20%, on learning the planes Great pastime this
