  1. No need for that... Thanks to ED for releasing FC:2. I'm really enjoying it and looking forward to final boxed version of DCS:A-10. Arizona
  2. OK, I just got around to installing Flaming Cliffs 2 and was disappointed to be greeted by a washed out, white menu. But everything else seems to work fine... It appears the suggested fix is to buy a new video card - which I'll do this summer when I build a new system. In the meantime, I'm stuck with this card. So, I was using a printout to understand what the buttons are on the main menu, but then I decided to try to change the background to see if I could improve it. I succeeded by changing the background to solid black. Now, there are no problems reading the main menu. The file you need to change is here: C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\LockOn Flaming Cliffs 2\BlackShark\themes\main\images\LOP The file for the background image is: base-menu-window.png Use a photo editor / drawing program to change it to solid black. Other colors may work, but I'm not going to mess around with it anymore. It is fixed and I'll be flying. Arizona
  3. Thanks ED! Looking forward to FC 2.0. Any chance we can get the whole thing on one CD/DVD? I'd pay a bit more for the convenience of a single install. Anyways, this should help keep me content until DCS: A-10C... Arizona
  4. GoGamer.com is out of stock :( I was waiting for amazon.com to get it, hope I didn't wait too long... Arizona
  5. The primary cause was gravity. ;) Sorry, I couldn't resist. Arizona
  6. I let my PCG subscription expire years ago. I'm kind of surprised they even reviewed DCS:BS. He should have given +10 points for DCS:BS being something other than yet another first person shooter. Every now and then I'll pick up PCG at the newsstand to see if I should subscribe again, but it is always packed with reviews of the FPS flavors of the month and not much else. Looks like I'll be set on the 8th of April (when the box comes out). Then I'll be anxious for A-10C... Arizona
  7. How about Cuba? And Southern Florida... Could make a nice futuristic hypothetical campaign... Arizona
  8. Yes, you will see an improvement if you upgrade your SB Live Value. I found out it was holding me back in LOMAC. The bonus is its a cheap upgrade... Good luck! EDIT: Oh - just saw you're running an Audigy like me... Never mind!
  9. Congrats! Great job! All I need now is a box with a DVD in it! Of DCS:A-10, that is! Arizona
  10. Something to consider: there are add-ons for FSX that cost $50 or more. But more importantly, if you don't buy DCS:BS, you may not get the airframe you want... I'm not really interested in a helo sim, but how long has it been since we've had a good study sim on any airframe? ED needs our support in order to keep the DCS effort alive. I'll buy DCS:BS (when box version comes out) so I can eventually get the A-10 sim I've waited years for. It was a sad day almost ten years ago when EA: Janes suddenly quit and abandoned the A-10 sim they were working on. Anyways, $50 seems more than reasonable. ED - I'm looking forward to the boxed version of DCS:BS. But to be honest, I've been following along just to get the A-10 sim. Arizona
  11. I'll buy Black Shark so I can have a jet... They've got to have some financial incentive to keep going... A-10 with AFM. Oh yeah! Arizona
  12. Not sure I'm thinking of the same view problem, but here is what I do: I've adjusted the settings in view.cfg and lua, etc, but I agree that I start off too close to the HUD when the mission starts. W/o Trackir, I press the / key on the numpad until it is where I want it. If I go too far, the * key brings it back closer. With Trackir (which is 99% of the time), I lean forward a bit, re-center trackIR (F12) and then sit back to my normal position, allowing TrackIR to zoom the view out. Four days now with a widescreen setup. Oh so happy I bought one! Hope this helps... Arizona
  13. Up for auction: A-10s Over Kosovo: The Victory of Airpower Over a Fielded Army as Told by the Airmen Who Fought in Operation Allied Force By Col C. Haave and Lt Col P. Haun, USAF ISBN 1-58566-122-8 Published 2003. 332 pages. Arizona
  14. I had really bad stuttering problems with SB Live that went away when I upgraded to SB Audigy 2. They're not that expensive now (I got an Audigy 2 ZS). Replacing the SB Live with a newer SB card WILL improve Lockon. Arizona
  15. Well, until someone comes out with a better A-10 sim that will run on my system. I'll keep LOMAC... I'm sure it'll be on my system for a long time to come. AFM sure would be nice. Santa, please? Arizona
  16. I've never heard of "trust vectoring" before - perhaps it makes people believe whatever you want them to believe. Maybe a new mission for the F/A-22? Psyops? Arizona
  17. How about a Florida / Cuba map? Arizona
  18. If the stick you have now is OK (or better), get the TrackIR with vector. I've seen some say the vector isn't supported enough yet to justify it. Whle it is true that many sims don't support the vector yet, LOMAC FC supports it. Look here: http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/03-enhanced-games/enhanced-games-flight.html With the vector support in LOMAC FC, you can zoom in on the HUD by simply leaning into the monitor. Much better for targeting Mavericks. Select the mavericks, slow down the A/C, lean into the monitor and target away. Since we don't have the binoculars A-10 pilots use, this is the next best thing. As for the TrackIR in general, it makes helo hunting a whole new game. Lean in for a zoomed view (is that speck a helo?) and then keep an eye on it while manuevering for the kill. I used to have to cheat and use F-10 Map to find the helo's area and then make pass after pass to find it. Now, I can usually spot it from a distance and manuever for a kill in the first pass. If I do have to make a another pass, it is much more effective with TrackIR. Of course, if your joystick sucks, all of this will just aggravate you even more since you need to be able to control the A/C to make this worthwhile... Arizona
  19. In a way, I'm glad we can't max out the graphics settings all the way yet. I remember Jane's WW2 fighters was a slide show on the first computer I loaded it on. Now, it is still have it on my hard drive today. With the frequency that good flight sims come out (every 6-7 yrs?), I'm glad LOMAC will continue to look good as I upgrade. Case in point, IMHO, LOMAC looked good on my P4 2.8G w/ TI-4800SE. I couldn't even put the settings near medium w/o it turning into a slide show. But, I was able to find ahappy medium where I could fly missions and enjoy the scenery. At those settings, LOMAC was the best looking flight sim on my computer. Two months ago I upgraded to ATI X800XL, P4 3.4G and added a second Gig of memory. When I fired up LOMAC, my wife noticed the difference - she looked over my shoulder and said "look at all the trees - I don't remember those before". She was right - LOMAC looked like a whole new flight sim. It is still the best looking flight sim on my computer... Between having a Falcon 4 looking sim that runs fast maxed out and something that looks like it was written this millenium, but needs to be reigned in a bit to run on today's machines (LOMAC), I choose both. But, LOMAC gets 100X of my time over Falcon... For that matter, Janes WW2 fighters gets more of my time than Falcon 4. Thats my $.02 I know LOMAC will be on my system for some time to come. Arizona
  20. I've got TIR 3 Pro w/ vector expansion. Great investment. So much easier to hunt helos in the A-10 now. Zooming in on HUD by leaning into the monitor helps a ton with targeting. You'll probably want to tweak the settings when you first set it up. For me, the defualt settings were way too sensitive with too small a deadzone in the center. With the default settings, I didn't feel I was in control of it. However, once I went into the settings and reduced the sensitivity (very easy to do), I won't fly LOMAC w/o it. One tip to vector expansion owners. Since my TIR sits on top of my monitor, I found I couldn't look down at the instruments when wearing the hat. But by wearing the hat with the brim up high (to where I can barely see it), the TIR is now able to tell when I look down and move the display accordingly. So, now I am able to look down at the instruments while in flight. Again, highly recommended. Arizona
  21. 3dFlyer, why should anyone contact you for any reason after posting threats of legal action? If you're serious, read the EULA, hire a lawyer ($$$), have the lawyer explain the EULA to you and then take your ramblings somewhere else. If you know as much as you say you do, why don't you have backups of your "years of priceless, irreplacable data" ? Hard drives crash every day, systems fail for multitudes of reasons and RAID 0 isn't the way to safely store data. It is clear you're not serious about safely storing your data. Therefore your credibility is about nil. Shouldn't your ire be directed at SF? If it interfering with your system, tell them. Perhaps they will fix it - at least they have the ability to change SF. ED can't do anything about how SF works. They're rightfully trying to protect their intellectual property. Look at how many flight sims are around right now and you should see that harrassing ED isn't going to make that better. Anyways, I'm tired of seeing you hijack other threads in this forum with your SF whining. Take it somewhere else. You are unhappy with SF. We got it. Move on.
