  1. So I remember when I was a young ADAN in the Line at 106 in 2006 (prior to the Sunset). Our fuel pits where right next to 32L, which were sometimes used as the active runway (as you may know). Aside from our lowly Hornet departures (which looked pretty cool from where I stood at our Home Depot-bought fuel shack), there were moments where a pair of [VF-]31 Tomcats taxi'd right by us and departed from 32L... with cans lit. It was even better in the rare occasion when the active runway was 14R and Tomcat's flew right by our shack. :D
  2. I personally would also like to see locked-out stickies of relevant updates, kinda like the single mini-update thread that Wags does on the Hornet forum. I think stickied posts about updates are useless when you don't lock the posts out. I mean, look at the chaos on the status update sticky? lol Status updates should just be that: status updates. I'm sure people here are more than willing to create a thread to discuss the updates..
  3. That's a fair statement... you should jump [back] on their forums and express your frustrations with that rather tiny team.
  4. Does this work? In my experience, whenever a Marine squadron stopped by in transit (when I was in 106), the LITENING was centerline so they could configure their drop tanks to double bubble. I had to look this cheek business up lol
  5. We referred to "parking" as spotting i.e. "spot aircraft on the Point." This is especially relevant considering aircraft in sim would have to magically back up to be placed in the pre-designated parking spots in sim.
  6. I apologize in advance for the lengthy post. If I can sum this up TL;DR style, what I'm saying is that current aircraft spotting during recovery operations are bad and that I wish that you spotted the aircraft from the bow of the ship first, similar to actual recovery ops as I remember it when I was in the Navy. OK, the long version For you devs, are you folks planning to do more proper spotting of aircraft during recovery? As someone who has time on an actual flight deck onboard 5 different carriers, the spotting in the sim is atrocious. To top it off, the aircraft are spotted beyond the foul line, which is a big no-no during recovery. I notice that aircraft that recover (in sim) spot by the Patio first, followed by El 3, the junkyard (typically an E-2 is spotted there next to the salvage crane), next to the island (typically helo's in bed are lined up next to the island and at least one spare E-2 towards the front of the island and next to the six pack), El 2, the Corral, the Point, and then El 1 (in which the el drops and then makes the aircraft disappear in the hangar deck.... wut)... see pic below My "wish" is to spot aircraft from cat 1 and 2 and work your way aft. During recovery onboard the Kitty Hawk and GW, aircraft were recovered and taxied towards the bow (typically down cat 2 but this has been done in reverse, too) and brought back up to the Point. This is to ensure that aircraft are pointed aft so they can taxi out for the next sortie. Aircraft were also spotted on the Corral, el 2, the six pack (typically 3 to 4 aircraft), and el 1, all in that order. El 1 and that corridor leading up to that foul line is typically clear since that area is used to safe weapons and it's basically the "intersection" of recovery. See other pic below. *Do note that "Nothing here" means there shouldn't be any spotting here. I understand that this would probably be pretty low on a priority list, but I figure that I should make my plea anyway because I know I'm not the only Airdale who notices this. I would also argue that changing the spotting from its current state is more efficient, even on the sim. While I imagine most simmers flights from the carrier to not have a lot of aircraft on deck for one reason or another, there may be some simmers, or vsquadrons who do like fill their flight deck up with a mix of pilots and AI pilots for immersion and whatnot. I certainly do since out of all the things I did in the Navy, flight ops and working on Hornets is the thing I miss the most. :( At the very least, is there a way to manually change spotting so I can do this on my own? Anyway, I think I typed enough. Have a great day/evening!
  7. OK, I'm not the only one who noticed this. I was just about to post something about this because this caught me off guard, too. I don't remember that happening when I turned Charlies at 192. lol This is a glitch, for sure.
  8. I honestly don't remember.. I think it was FS4 or FS5. I do remember my first combat sim, A-10 Attack! on my ultra beasty Macintosh Performa! LOL :pilotfly:
  9. There has always been this psuedo-appendix measuring contest on whats better on both here and the VRS forums and you know it. I'm not going to dig into prior VRS threads and post it on here, but it doesn't take much to look back on this thread and other VRS/FSX threads on here to see this pointless rift between what's better or what's more accurate (etc, etc). The thing about consumer flight simulations is that its meant to give the perception of realism. The idea of such is relative, especially with people who has direct experience with the aircraft in question. And you're naive to think that piracy isn't hurting the community... but don't take it from me. Take it from someone who has developed for this community  And why are you being so confrontational with me? Ever since that thread in the coretex section...
  10. Are you guys really fighting about this? Isn't this what Call of Duty and Battlefield fans do? The flight simulation community, as a whole, is such a tiny niche community. Do we really need cry about what's better? How about common ground.. like how piracy is killing the flight sim community?
  11. Tried looking for a thread similar to this via search, but came out empty handed.. Anyway, my gun pods are causing the sim to crash every time I squeeze the trigger. This happens at both Ripple Quantity 2 and 4 as well as at any angle and PPT mode. Is anybody else having these issues, or am I missing something? :noexpression: EDIT: Ah damnit.. I thought I was in Bugs/Problems. Request to move into proper subforum, please?
  12. This may be of interest to you: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1749105#post1749105
  13. how can you even write off A2A like that? Have you ever watched their development videos? I still haven't seen a persistance engine with DCS, nor a sense of ownership of such a handson system. Ultimately, its discouraging to see this " Call of Duty vs. Battlefield" mentality in the flight sim comminity. It's childish and really has no place. What if A2A decided to develop for DCSW, and bringing Accusim into the mix? What then?
  14. Nice update for the Legacy Hornet model, ED although the FLIR is sticking through the engine duct. :\
  15. Can't speak for the 5th gen but VRS has done an excellent job with the Super Hornet so it's very possible to make a DCS title with the Super Hornet. Is it my choice for a next DCS title? no. I would much rather have a legacy Hornet, but I'm hoping that a Su-27 be made next.
