  1. Thanks that was really helpful, I was able to find a previous config and load it in. It worked for almost all aircraft, I'm guessing the few it didn't were just from really old updates. Think I will also make use of the Save Profile in future too — thanks!
  2. I haven't used DCS for a while, so I ran all the updates and while playing realised that DCS has forgotten all my control mappings for my Saitek X56 throttle in the F-16 (can't remember if it's forgotten for other aircraft too). Seems to have gone to some default of sorts, as it has controls mapped, just not my ones. Any idea what causes this as it's happened once before? Is there any way to prevent it? It's a real bummer having to set it all up again / remember how I had it before.
  3. I have a question RE: BVR tactics. 1. When flying towards an enemy, I lock them up, fire off an AIM-120C (I almost always use RWS), but then tend to carry on flying towards my enemy until the missile goes pitbull (I see a T countdown on the HUD). Problem is, often by this point they've fired off a missile at me, so I'm flying essentially towards an incoming missile for far too long, because I'm afraid of turning away too much and losing radar lock. What's the correct tactics here? Should I be flying diagonally towards the enemy after firing, so not straight at them, but close enough angle that I don't lose radar lock? If so, how do I judge what angle towards/away from the enemy I can fly without losing lock? In real world scenarios, would fighter pilots who realised they had an incoming missile just forget the missile they've fired, even if it hasn't gone pitbull, make sure they've evaded the incoming, before re-engaging? Or would they (if at all possible) keep their lock until pitbull, before evading? Any advice on these sort of tactics much appreciated. I'm getting a kill but getting killed too often.
  4. Having just got into VR multiplayer, first thing I noticed was how much I'm struggling to ID certain aircraft, so I made this little compilation of aircraft identification posters. Thought I'd post it here in case anyone else finds it useful. It's still hard IDing in VR, but every little helps! WW2 Aircraft Identification.pdf
  5. Thanks guys, will try those things if/when it happens again. (I've watched almost every vid I can find, and flipped through the manuals prior to asking here).
  6. Hi, Occasionally on missions I think I'm pressing a button or doing something to inadvertently mess up the targeting pod so it no longer points at my selected steerpoint — the problem is I don't know what I'm doing, or what procedures I then need to do to reset/make it work correctly. I've tried switching bombing modes, pressing uncage button, hitting various buttons — nothing seems to work. What's a good checklist of button presses/procedures to effectively reset the TGP and get it fixed pointing at next steerpoint? Thanks
  7. I can confirm that antenna elevation fixes the original problem, thanks. There is a couple of new quirks, like when I engage the 2nd group of bandits at the same as time as my wingmen using TWS, I seem to lock the first open target using TMS right, but then pressing TMS right again doesn’t move lock to other targets, just stays locked on original bandit. Something else I’m doing wrong? (During first engagement without wingmen, TMS right moves lock between targets fine).
  8. Thanks for the advice all — after getting killed yet again due to Jester making strange radar decisions, I bought the F-16. At least now if I die, it's my fault. I'll come back to the F-14 when I can find a RIO...
  9. Ah thanks, that sounds like a possibility — I'll give that a try
  10. I'm having a problem on the TWS/Data link tutorial mission. First you have to use TWS mode to make a couple of enemies system targets and shoot them down — that's fine. Then you're instructed to go to a group of 4 enemies, tell your wingmen to attack and then use TWS to attack whoever they're not targeting. However I can't seem to get it to work — I set TWS radar mode as before, but if I press TMS right when the enemy are on my radar, nothing happens. TMS forward, nothing. If I position the cursor on the radar over them and try TWS right or up, nothing. Nothing seems to work — I even then as an experiment go to RWS mode, but I can't even get a lock on the enemies using that (putting the cursor over them and hitting TMS up). Am I doing something wrong? Weirdly I have succeeded in this mission once, where it just worked as it should — but I can't seem to replicate that consistently. There's either a bug or something vital missing from the tutorial (or something I've not understood??) I've tried all manner of workarounds, such as coming out of A/A mode, going to dogfight mode and then back to missile — selecting missiles/deselecting, to sort of reset — but nothing works.
  11. Thanks for the answers. Follow-on question, so in PvP yesterday, AWACS says there's a bandit straight in front of me, 2000ft higher @ 25 miles range. Jester is picking up nothing on the radar — I'm not quite sure what radar mode's he's using to not picking up a target 2000ft higher at 25 miles straight in front. So I try saying 'Radar Mode TWS' to go to TWS Auto in case he's in a weird mode. I'm still not picking up a bandit directly in front of me. Surprise surprise they lock me up and shoot off a missile at me. Still nothing on my radar. In reality if an AWACS says there's a bandit straight ahead of you at 25 miles, a RIO would be doing everything possible in life to pick them up — so what am I doing wrong? What do I need to say to him? #frustrating
  12. I'm wondering if there's anyone out there having lots of success using Voice Attack for PvP — if so, can you give any hints/tips how you get it to work most effectively? NOT using Voice Attack I noticed Growling Sidewinder saying he's having lots of success link hosting AWACS then using the Jester Menu > STT Lock > Choose Specific Target — however using Voice Attack we can't do that (unless I'm mistaken) I've only tried PvP a couple of times using Voice Attack, and tend to just say "Radar Mode TWS" (to go TWS Auto, not even sure if I need to do this), then wait for Jester to find targets on the radar/assign numbers, then say "Track single Target 1 (or whatever number) — to get lock. However I notice he loses lock a lot after I fire a Phoenix — seems to switch radar modes or something, so I end up often having to fire off a couple of missiles Also, what command do I use to to try and make sure it's an enemy and not a friendly? I've been using the map which feels like cheating and I'm imagining isn't an option on all servers? Why doesn't AIRIO have a command 'track single bandit ahead' — instead it only has bogey/friendly options, and bogeys CAN be friendlies, unless I'm mistaken? So yeah — any advice for all the commands/techniques you use to do well in PvP using VoiceAttack / AIRIO much appreciated. Thanks, Kingfish
