  1. Yep, was stationed out of Yokosuka and lived on the boat full time. I always envied the air wing guys cause you got to move off the boat in port. If only I would have let the MEPS guy talk me into being an AT instead of DS, then I could have lived in cushy barracks when in port too.

In Nov of 93' I flew into Narita and checked in to the Indy the night before getting underway for a deployment to the gulf. Were you able to avoid that cruise?

Funny thing about the JP5, I've been out since 97' and a couple of years ago I was in San Diego for a conference. I was staying at a hotel just a couple of blocks from the USS Midway so I took a tour. The first thing I noticed was the smell of JP5 and it instantly brought back a bunch of memories. :smilewink: And water just doesn't taste the same without that JP5 flavor either.

Yeah, avoided that cruise but not the 2 prior. I forgot about the water tasting like jet fuel, ahhhhhh......memories! :music_whistling:

  2. Ryanj73,

Good to see a fellow Indy vet on here. I was a DS3 on the USS Independence from 93' to 95'. I've even got a patch from your squadron somewhere around here.

NO WAY!! So were you stationed out of Yokosuka? I was stationed at Atsugi, but we would fly onto the boat when we'd steam.

Truly nice to "meet" another person on the boards that knows what its really like to live on an aircraft carrier, especially the Indy! I dont miss it at all except for working on the flight deck.

Miss that smell of JP5!!! Ahhhh.....:D

  3. hey man great quote in your sig (check mine out!)

Were you a pilot by any chance in the gulf war?

    Great minds think alike!

I was an AMH3 (Aviation Hydraulicsman, Third Class Petty Officer). I joined because I wanted to go through a program that no longer exists called NAVCAD, in which you go through flight training while getting your college degree. After being in for a couple of years, I got all my endorsements, recommendations and paperwork together for the program when my older brother was diagnosed with leukemia. Long story short, I ended up having to get a humanitarian transfer to Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego where my brother was (he was a Navy Medic). A few months later we were sent off to the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Reasearch center in Seattle where we underwent a bone marrow transplant (a 6 month procedure at the time) A few months later I was honerably discharged because I needed to help my family out. Several years later, I ended up getting my commercial pilots liscence (Multi-Engine, Instrument Rated). I am going to begin working as a Certified Flight Instructor in a few months. What I DID get to fly while I was enlisted was a T-34 Mentor. A tandem cockpit trainer that you start off in before moving into jets. That was a kick-ass experience as I got to fly a ton of manuevers with our Captain. There is nothing like upset training and dogfighting manuevers, SO MUCH FUN! :pilotfly:

How about yourself, any flying experience?

  4. Have you read the JTAC section in the flight manual starting at page 640?

The most simplified way I can put it is:

    1. Contact JTAC and check-in.
    2. Wait for the 9-line to finish and after a short pause, they will say "advise when ready for remarks and further talk-on"
    3. Use the radio to say you're ready for remarks
    4. After receiving remarks, use the radio to provide the 9-line readback.
    5. JTAC will confirm readback okay, and say 'standby data'.
    6. You'll then receive a message on both MFCDs saying NEW TASKING; acknowledge this with the ack OSB at the bottom right or TMS LEFT SHORT.
    7. On your TAD, you will have a WILCO and a CNCMP option on the left and right. Use the WILCO option to accept the tasking.
    8. You'll see a red triangle on the TAD. Make the TAD the SOI, use the throttle slew control to put the cursor over the triangle, use TMS UP SHORT to hook the triangle, and then TMS UP LONG to make it the SPI.
    9. Use CHINA HAT FWD LONG to slew everything to the SPI (i.e. location of that triangle). At this point, your targeting pod will pointing at the coordinates the JTAC provided. Use it to locate the precise position of your target(s).

Exactly how you prosecute the attack depends on the type of control in effect and how the target is marked; I'd suggest reading page 642 at the very least. If you just go in guns blazing without following procedure your JTAC will tell you to abort.

STELLAR! Thank you so much for simplifying this. Rep just sent.

  5. I meant no disrespect, however when I see a button that says "contact us" then how am I supposed to interpret that? On October 10th, 21 days ago today, I paid for this and cannot utilize the functions that everyone else gets to. I'm feeling a bit left out in the cold, I hope you can understand my frustration. Put yourself in my shoes please. Thanks for the quick response sir.

  6. Done.

Why is this such a difficult process? I am so disappointed with the help I have gotten. This has been going on now for a couple of weeks. Why cant someone just ACTIVATE the damn account! Ive done what I am supposed to do. I paid for this, now help me! People just keep sending me links to repost the problem!!!!!!!!!! What a joke! F'ING HELP ME!!!

  7. DCS: I have emailed you directly and have not gotten any response so I am posting here. I cannot access the beta forums. Yes, I did a search and found information on ensuring that my email adresses match on both sites (they do): I still cannot access. I have posted a couple of things that were moved to the beta forum and would like to be involved in the conversations.

Your quick response and assistance would be immensely appreciated!

    Thank you.

  8. if my post was moved to the BETA FORUMS and I CANNOT ACCESS THEM; then how can I read the replies!

Happened to me also, I've done everything I was supposed to do according to all of the different instructions that I have read, I emailed ED and have not gotten any response. Good times...

  9. Hi there,

Don't know if i should put this here but anyways: Could a Admin or someone PM me how I can get access to the beta forum? I've bought pre-order beta DCS a-10c and it states that I know have acces to the beta forums.

I believe this isnt the beta forum is it? Because when I click the link in my mail access to beta forum it states that i don't have privileges to view the page. Furthermore several people have posted here links to pdf's or other info and when i click that it takes me to a forum thread which i'm not privi to read.

Do I need to register my serial with the forum or somesuch? Please PM me the procedure.

    Thanks

Having the exact same problem here and yes, I followed the instructions here:

    Help! ;)

  10. I've done a quick search in this forum and have not seen much info on Track IR, but as of now, if I am correct, is appears that you cannot use Track IR? Can someone please clarify? I am a bit confused by it as in the videos posted by ED, they are clearly using it.

    Thanks so much!
