  1. I think my mind is in the same place as Dangerzone's. I would have pre-ordered the CL already if it included DFR, if its cost was between the CL and the Crystal. I think I have to wait for the reviews on the CL to make the decision. I recall the G2 3184x3096 resolution quoted by Nedum had been quoted by others when setting up resolution overrides in the OpenXR Toolkit. However, I am not sure if this resolution is an equivalent comparison to the Crystal's quoted resolution. Everyone remarks about the big increase in clarity provided by the Crystal compared to the G2. Was the G2's optics that inefficient compared to the Crystal's? I would like to be better informed than I currently am when making the final decision.
  2. I ran my G2 with a 3080 and I want to wait a couple of years before upgrading my PC. I ran it at 45fps in MR and with mid to low settings in DCS. G2 died so a new headset is urgent and the 3080 has to drive it. I have to choose between a Crystal and a CL. I get the benefits that come with DFR as per this: I am thinking of approaching the purchase like this: 1. The Crystal is a dead set upgrade. I should be able to get a much better experience by way of DFR. Crisper picture, slightly better FOV and bigger sweet spot. Disadvantage is the cost, weight, and battery. 2. The CL would have to be upscaled from a lower than native resolution to render the same amount of pixels as the G2. Therefore the advantages for the CL are similar setup to G2, lower cost, weight, and slightly better sweet spot and FOV. The disadvantage is that it will not be a major upgrade from the G2, it would be more like replacing the G2 with a G2.5. I would appreciate the opinion of people with a Crystal and a GPU similar to a 3080.
  3. I need to replace my G2 and I only have a 3080. I am disappointed that the Light version does not get eye tracking. However I am interested in someone reporting how the FFR 2.0 will work with it and the lower res mode (replicates the G2 resolution and then upscales that). I already use Quadviews FFR on the G2 and I suspect I will get a similar experience to the G2 but with a bigger sweet spot and field of view. I think I need to decide between the Light and the Crystal. I would really like to drop the battery, but I am not sure if my PC is strong enough to drive the Light.
  4. WMR will be removed from Windows 11 if you allow your PC to upgrade to the 24H2 version of Windows 11 later this year. You will need to put a stop to this particular upgrade (just like me). If you buy a PC now it should still come with WMR.
  5. ED has introduced a lot of performance enhancements in the last 12 months (MT and DLSS). Therefore, provided you can live with down rating some of the visual candy you can enjoy VR on a modest GPU. Yes more horsepower will be next on my upgrade path (cash sink hole). Hopefully the G2 will keep running for a while yet.
  6. You need to get OpenXR Tools for WMR from the Windows App store as well as The OpenXR Toolkit from Github for the G2. In DCS Controls make sure you have enabled the VR Headset in the VR tab and set pixel density to 1.0. In DCS System I would select the VR level of detail button and use DLSS with your card (try balanced). A 2080ti will not be able to run VR smoothly with high details. You can work your way up from the default VR settings. In OpenXR Tools for WMR: Turn on latest preview OpenXR runtime; Customize render scale to 100%; prefer frame rate over latency. I Disable Motion Reprojection in this window (But turn it on in the OpenXR Toolkit). In the OpenXR Toolkit: Turn on Motion Reprojection and let it be unlocked. Turn off Turbo mode and Over-prediction reduction. I also recommend running Quadviews Fixed Foveated Rendering (another app) instead of doing it in the OpenXR Toolkit to get better performance and visuals in VR. You will need to Google this as the instructions of how to implement this is a little complicated and it must be done correctly.
  7. I just played this mission and the UH60 never took off after I was asked to keep watch. What is the trigger needed for this to happen? Is the show of force trigger? I flew low over the infantry dropped flares but they still started shooting at the helo. What are we supposed to do here?
  8. If I turn Turbo mode on I get bad stutters. If I turn Shaking Reduction on (see the Inputs tab) at the same time as MR you get wobbly ghosting especially as you move your head around.
  9. If you are running your G2 at a higher resolution than the monitor (99% of people would be doing this) then I think it would make no difference. Your monitor is only viewing a mirror of one or both of your VR screens with in VR mode.
  10. . It’s unfortunate to hear MR is no longer working for you in your G2. I am loving mine and the minor ghosting at 45fps is acceptable. Just make sure you are not trying to run Turbo mode or the Shake Reduction in the OpenXR Toolkit at the same time as MR.
  11. I have Orion 1 F18 HOTAS. It's only the joystick that disconnects. I get a Windows audio chime when it disconnects and then reconnects. Has anyone found a fix?
  12. For me with 12900 CPU - I have HT on and have forced unparking of all cores. Stuttering problem solved with this. I still have a problem with the game hanging when starting a mission. I work around this by alt-tab out of DCS, then trigger an action in another app (browser) and almost immediately DCS loads the mission or briefing in the background. Without alt-tab in and out I can wait for minutes. This is still the case in the latest patch. It’s been this way since MT was introduced.
  13. Well, the expert has confirmed what I had thought. Thanks for your brilliant work Mbucchia. I am loving my G2 in DCS right now but dreading the day Microsoft will brick it. I have been using Quadviews FFR in lieu of the OpenXR Toolkit FR and I believe my CPU still has some headroom whereas the GPU is maxed out.
  14. Yes, I am running Quadviews with my G2. It has not caused any stuttering. However, make sure you follow Mbucchia's instructions. It's not compatible with some of the settings available in the OpenXR Toolkit.
  15. Yes that is right. Do your final tweaks and then set and forget.
  16. There is a bit more to it than that. Please read MBucchia's instructions carefully. If someone tries to summarize it in this thread you may get something wrong. Please go to this page for clear instructions: https://github.com/mbucchia/Quad-Views-Foveated/wiki . Follow these carefully and don't try any shortcuts. There are some settings you may have to change in the OpenXR Toolkit as described in this linked page. (e.g. do not implement the Fixed Foveated Rendering in the toolkit if you are using Quadviews.) Quadviews is better at doing FFR compared to the toolkit. If you are confident enough to read the advance settings section here https://github.com/mbucchia/Quad-Views-Foveated/wiki/Advanced-Configuration you will note that you can enhance the resolution in the focus section.
  17. I have a g2 and run it on a 3080 and 12900k. Your settings put more load on your poor GPU than my settings do. You need to get some quicker frames back as your first step as it is likely poor frame rates. I would start by turning off your shadows or turning DLSS to balanced. However you may have poor OpenXR Runtime settings too. Do you run Motion Reprojection and use the OpenXR Toolkit? If you have Motion Reprojection on, then you must turn off Shaking Reduction as this will cause a bad case of ghosting too.
  18. I have just updated to 23H2 this week and then turned this Incontrol "on". I hope it works. It will be a AUD3,000 issue if my G2 gets bricked.
  19. I am on Windows 11 22H2. Windows is inviting me to update my system to 23H2 now. Is anyone else on 23H2 that can confirm it is ok to do the 23H2 Update? My understanding is that we will lose WMR in 24H2 later this year so no more updates after this one?
  20. Hi BD, I decided to relearn CDU stuff and tried Mission 2 again after completing the Campaign some months ago. I also experienced No Bif voice or on screen messages on the way to Wpt 3. Has there been a opportunity to check and patch fix this since December?
  21. I am enjoying this campaign at can recommend it to people learning the A-10C. However, I have had a problem in not being able to complete two of the missions and I have no idea if the missions are bugged or I am missing something. Can anyone help? The two missions are as follows: Mission 10 - On Duty. Despite killing every detectable blue force unit, reporting it in, and then egressing as ordered. Upon crossing the threshold to land I receive the message "You have left the battle area - Mission Failed". I have tried to do this carefully 3 times with the same result. Mission 12 - The Return. Spoiler alert. As ordered I kill the Su-23 Shilka and the Strella. Next I take out the truck mounted AA near the terminal. I am then asked to take out the two Humvees. I use the Gun on these two. The problem is that as soon as the second HMV is critically damaged I get the message "Spetnaz group destroyed - Mission Failed". I have done failed this mission 3 times and I have no idea why killing the second HMV is causing the mission fail. Is there anybody at ED maintaining this campaign that can check on this?
  22. So far I have enjoyed this campaign. I am actually playing it in the original A-10C to see if I can get good without relying on the headvisor and laser guided rockets. However, I have tried this mission a few times now - all unsuccessful. Step 1 - I take out the team blue guys near the red squad as directed. I then call in destruction of those targets and I am told to return to base. Step 2 - I rearm and refuel and then head back out to the same area to tackle the blue guys on the other side of the river Step 3 - Using CBU 105's, Mavericks and Gun I eliminate all the blue guys Step 4 - I call in the destruction of all targets and then I am ordered to egress. Step 5 - I egress and head back to base. Upon crossing the threshold to land I receive the message "You have left the battle area - Mission Failed". I have done this three times. Can someone advise what I have missed to succeed in this mission?
  23. I have a 3080 too. CPU is 12900k. I am GPU limited in VR. One day I will get a 4090/5090 but it will be a while as my PC is less than 2 years old. I have seen and tried settings recommended by others with 3080/3080Ti's that had motion re-projection turned off. One of those are here: Although avoiding MR would be the holy grail, for me it means I need to sustain 90fps to avoid stutters in the G2 (I have tried 60Hz mode too but could not put up with the flicker). With a G2 and a 3080 there has to be a compromise somewhere. For me I have stuck with the following important settings: Windows MR Headset settings - Highest quality resolution and 90Hz Nvidia Control Panel - set to maximum performance settings, pre-rendered frames at 3, 10GB shader cache OpenXR Tools for WMR - 100% scaling and running the latest OpenXR run time. I have left the NVidia flow control turned on. MBucchia's Quad View foveated rendering: I have gone with the default settings which elevate resolution in the sweet spot to 1.1 OpenXR Toolkit: - Turn off Turbo mode, no upscaling here - all turned off, Fixed foveated rendering turned off in here (I am using the Quad views FFR instead), Motion re-projection turned on and set to adjustable, I have left resolution as is (no overide), head shake minimisation = 0, and post colour enhancements to your own liking In DCS MT 2.9 Settings: - Pixel Density =1.0. DLSS = quality (this is where downscaling happens in my setup. Apparently it gives upscaling from 67% plus I no longer need to use MSAA). AA is therefore DLAA. Textures = High. Terrain Textures = High. Water = medium. Clouds = High. All shadows are off. I have all other SSAO, blur etc turned off. AF=x16. I have viewing distance at high and reasonably high on grass and forest details. These results mean I usually fly with either 45 or 30 fps with MR on. This is smooth for me. The benefits are that I can also clearly read all my cockpit instruments, the world and scenery looks nice enough for immersion, and I have decent chance of spotting targets in the air and on the ground. The disadvantage in this set up is that there is warbling/ghosting around cockpit edges when close to, or on the ground and looking at other aircraft in dogfights, or my own plane in a F3 flyby. I also notice slight ghosting on the MFD's due to DLSS others have noticed. However, I am ok with these as I can still fight air and ground targets and feel the immersion. In a couple years with a more powerful PC and headset I would hope to reverse the following settings in the following order: turn off MR, turn on shadows, turn of DLSS upscaling. In any case with MT and 2.9 I have enjoyed VR a lot more than with 2.7 or 2.8. I and others with similar setups to you would be interested reading in your own opinion here after you try things out. I think everyone's priorities are different based on what the individuals personal likes are.
  24. I agree. In DCS VR has become plug and play for my headset. I still cannot understand why MS leave access to the current WMR software to owners of these headsets. It smells like they have done a deal with Meta or someone else which is “anti-competitive”. I can understand that MS would want to cease all development and support for WMR. However, removing the the ability to even launch this legacy software is going too far.
