  1. Let's just remove it as a requirement. None of the other modules have it and every update seems to bring with it either a new process follow, or a fudged work around.
  2. This is what I have noticed so far: Maverick Boresighting is broken - I can't find a way to make this work at all. I appreciate this has been mentioned. While we're on the subject, I like the fact that the game has a high level of realism, but none of the other modules require Maverick boresighting - so why does the Viper? Surely all should need it or none of the aircraft should require it? So many of the updates have required a change to the process - either leave it alone or remove it. TGP doesn't power on unless you cycle hardpoint power, and gets replaced with each rearm & refuel. It then requires the hardpoint to be recycled again and another warm up period before it can be used. MGC on TGP does nothing. That's it so far ... Dr Spankle
  3. I can't say for sure when the Radalt would show in the Viper, but I can say that they only usually work to a max alt of 2500ft. It's not a major issue obviously but just another little addition to the realism. Cheers, Dr Spanklle
  4. You absolutely cannot use NCTR in any other aspect than within a certain degree of nose to nose. Furthermore, it doesn't necessarily need to 'see' the compressor blades - rather it needs to detect the JEM (Jet Engine Modulation) unique to each engine/airframe combination. DCS is attempting to model something that is highly classified, so it's not worth worrying about how accurate it is doing this when no-one is ever going to be willing to confirm the accuracy of the modelling. Dr Spankle
  5. For some reason the Up/Down lights on the left are far easier to see than the Fore/Aft lights on the right. Can we increase the visibility so they're equally easy to see please? Cheers, Dr Spankle
  6. I've got all the documentation and frequencies, I'm asking what commands do I need to use to get my flight to actually expend weapons. Dr Spankle
  7. I don't understand mate - how can I know what frequency they're on? And I'm talking about using the Comm menu options to give them commands. Am I supposed to do it a different way? Sorry for being thick, Dr Spankle
  8. My wingmen don't seem to ever engage anything - air or ground. I've tried 'Engage Bandits', 'Engage Air Defences', 'Engage Mission and Rejoin' ... you name it. I never receive a response and they certainly don't ever do anything except follow me around the sky. What am I doing wrong? Dr Spankle
  9. I sometimes get this too. If I swap SOI away from TGP then back again it works again. No idea what causes it, it seems to only happen randomly. Dr Spankle
  10. Can we set the height above which trails form to something more realistic please? As an average I'd say 28000 and above is where you're most likely to find them, and only in a particular band of altitude, for example 29-35000, Either side of the band where persistent trails form there is often a thousand feet or so where non-persistent contrails are present too - it would be cool to see this. As a tactical aside, does the presence of trails from our aircraft increase the AI's ability to detect us at all? I've heard 'Tally' called for real at 40 miles as the target was in the cons. Dr Spankle
  11. This. DTED comes in three levels of accuracy to us commoners: Level 0 has a post spacing of approximately 900 meters. Level 1 has a post spacing of approximately 90 meters. Level 2 has a post spacing of approximately 30 meters. These are the widely available models - there are more accurate ones in existence which are obviously military spec. Dr Spankle
  12. Hellfires are not more precise than Mavericks, nor do they offer less collateral damage - in fact the REDs, (Risk Estimate Distances) used to calculate CD are actually very similar. The Hellfire is lighter as it was designed primarily for rotary carriage, the Maverick for fixed wing. The accuracy of the Hellfire or the Maverick when lased is entirely dependent on the accuracy of the lasing, and is unlikely ever to be sufficiently so to strike anything smaller than a vehicle. Dr Spankle
  13. 10 Fig MGRS is accurate to 1m - if it can be used to drop a Danger Close weapon it's accurate enough for anything else. Dr Spankle
  14. Unfortunately I can't seem to set the RDR Cursor on the TM Viper TQS to be a button rather than an axis. Has anyone found a way of doing this? Alternatively, has anyone from ED acknowledged this change in behaviour since the last update? Edit: As I write this Big Newy's response landed - thanks guys I'll leave it in your capable hands ... Dr Spankle
  15. My RDR Cursor axis controller on the Viper TQS works fine for the TGP, but for some reason the slewing on the Wpn Page for the Maverick is hyper-sensitive and very tricky to use. I saw something mentioned about somewhere but now can't find it. Is there a fix? Dr Spankle
  16. Can you post a pic of the MFD? Dr Spankle
  17. I've also had this, along with the TGP cursor disappearing randomly to somewhere in the sky for no reason. It appears over the tgt as it should but then any attempt to slew it jumps it into the sky. The only way out of this is to CZ, go back a steer point, come back to the next steer point and start slewing again. If you just CZ to replace the cursor over the tgt area and attempt to slew it jumps into the sky again. I only play MP so this is the only place I've seen it. Dr Spankle
  18. Since I switched VR Headset to the Varjo Aero I get occasional freezes on the F10 map which can last for 2 mins or more. So far they have always unfrozen after a varying amount of time, but whilst frozen obviously no control inputs can be made so I often crash . Not sure if it is related to the new headset or whether that was entirely coincidental. It happens in Multiplayer and in Campaign. Cheers, Dr Spankle
  19. This is the same behaviour I get with the TM Viper TQS. It's really annoying! Going to try this tomorrow ... Thanks for the suggestion. Dr Spankle
  20. You need to set both autopilot switches - for example Steering Select on the left switch, and Attitude Hold on the right one. Hope that helps. Dr Spankle
  21. Can we have the ability to use/display the DoD reporting name rather than the manufacturer's designator please - so AA-12 rather than R77, SA15 rather than Tor etc? There seems to be a bit of a mix between gameplay, the F10 map, the JTAC status etc. It would be nice to have consistency across the platform. I spent a career learning what I needed to know about the SA11 etc and don't think I ever heard it referred to as a Buk! While we're at it, some basic implementation of Rivet Joint would be nice too ... Cheers, Dr Spankle
  22. Ultimately you're only going to get the sort of dynamic reactive behaviour from a JTAC that we'd all like if there's an actual trained human performing the role. Outside of that, we have our awesome computer game (free computer game at that) which does a pretty good job. The same goes for AWACS and ATC - the AI can only be so good and it will never replicate what a human can do in the role. Happy New Year all! Dr Spankle
  23. Yup - although on my last exercise one of the JTACs was a Major so he may well outrank some aircrew. Even then though, the person who signs for that aircraft has ultimate authority over the weapons it carries. Dr Spankle
  24. Point 1 wouldn't be realistic as the JTAC is responding to the Ground Commander's intent, not his own playbook. It may be that, in prosecuting this, he has more than one tgt within his AOR that he wishes hit but, if this were the case, he'd employ a Type 3 Control and let you strike the various targets as you see fit within his parameters for the safety of friendly forces etc. Point 2 - definitely. The weapon choice rests with the pilot. Point 3 - Absolutely. Dr Spankle Absolutely - and the presence of any other friendly air users, artillery activity/mortars etc too. Granted, in MP this would be difficult but in a scripted Campaign it could be done. Dr Spankle
  25. Not correct, and my job is flying contract CAS providing NATO JTAC training and currency. The JTAC requests a weapon and asks if we concur for correct weapon-to-target matching. If we don't concur we don't drop. You own your bombs and you alone are responsible for their employment. The final decision rests with the pilot. Dr Spankle
