There are a few options, the first is an ALPS switch like the HAT, but the encoder function makes the knurled part spin sometimes. I also posted an alternative switch which uses 4 small and 1 large tact switch which is easier to wire and does not automatically engage the "push" function every time like the alps switch does. I'll be posting a comparison soon as well

Hey all, thank you for the additional info, it's been great to read about! To be fair, I didn't actually suggest HB model the single piece canopy, I was just curious and wanted to learn more about it. The Phantom has such a storied history, it's... phascinating. (I'll see myself out )

That's shocking, but it makes sense - highly ironic that a one piece actually reduced visibility, I think most would have assumed it helped! Thank you for sharing!

Well I ended up going down a rabbit hole after seeing an image of this F-4E (68-0345) with a single piece windscreen forward of the canopy bow: Apparently close to the end of production, F-4E's coming out of the micky-D factories in the 80's had these, and they ended up in Missouri ANG units as well as I believe a Greek export bird or two. Curious if anyone has more info or an official source on this!

It is hard for me to find the words to express my gratitude... thank you. Not only for the first place and lifetime supply of Heatblur modules (am I dreaming??) but also for the very very kind words. I certainly did not expect to win and a huge shoutout to all who submitted! From the start I knew I wanted to use a longer focal length to bring the midground and background closer to the viewer - so they could admire the incredible labours of love that are the Heatblur Forrestal Carrier, assets, and F-14 Tomcat! Keep in mind the foreground is an exterior model Tomcat with a camera positioned inside - truly some very impressive LOD work from HB on that one. I truly am at a loss for words - thank you from the bottom of my heart, both for this recognition and for everything you folks do - your passion, hard work and long hours are evident in the placement of every rivet, the click of every switch, and the feeling of sheer excitement of strapping into a Heatblur jet. All I can say is - thank you!

I recommend the Virpil/VKB/Thrustmaster grips to anyone looking for a great long term investment with actual support and and a low/no hassle setup! I personally love my Virpil gear, and I am not sponsored by them in any way, just a happy customer. That being said, the Virpil grip is simply not based on a B-8 or MC-2 - it's based on an Mi-24 helicopter cyclic. For most people, that won't matter at all, which is totally fine! It's got the right looking buttons on roughly the right shape in roughly the right place.. for 90% of people that's good enough. For that last 10%, there are DIY options available for creating an actually accurate replica. I go over this debate in detail in this video, for those who are interested:

Thank you so much!! I can definitely include the original files, I'll update the thingiverse link with my .blends I'm working on compatibility with the ALPS RKJXM1015004 , just waiting for a batch to arrive and then I will update the trim hat and thumb rocker housing, other than that I think everything is pretty much good to go!

Amen! I think one of the things I am most looking forward to is the mix of high performance with older systems to manage. I enjoy the digital jets as much as the next fellow, but I firmly believe that the Phantom is the type of aircraft in which the person in the cockpit really truly makes or breaks a fight. Yes there are BVR missiles, but they are FOX-1's Yes there are all aspect heaters, but they're not the 9X Yes there is a radar, but it requires collaboration with another human or Jester to be effective Yes there are hydraulic dampers on the stick etc, but it's not a digital flight control system where the computer is flying the plane I feel the same way about the MiG 21 and the F-5, but I am so excited for F-4 - it feels like a keystone that has been missing in DCS. I wonder if anyone is working on a campaign for the F-4? Has that been mentioned or hinted at anywhere? I've mostly played on Alpenwolf and Enigma's cold war servers so single player content is new to me, but for the F-4 I feel like I want to jump in both feet first!
