My greetings to the community!
I'm new here and I plan to install DCS World within the next weeks. My current PC is an outdated PC build back in 2009. It has a P45turbotwins2000 mobo, E7500 dual core cpu and Nvidia GT 440 gpu. I can play Strike Fighters 2 which is not demanding but it really struggles to play war thunder in low settings in windows 7. I have also tried to use windows 10 with this machine but system's performance was dramatically decreased.
However since I decided to build a new PC based on DCS requirements this is what I have ordered so far.
Gigabyte B660 DS3H DDR4 ATX mobo
i5-12400 cpu
G.Skill Ripjaws V 16GB
The game will be installed on a 500GB SSD.
Gpu is the component I haven't decided so far. I currently use a 1080p monitor and I'm satisfied with it however I'm thinking of upgrading to 1440p sometime but not in my plans for the time being. I want my GPU to be able to play DCS in highest settings (not interested in VR) in 1080p without being operating at full load and reaching normal temperatures. Ideally I would like the card to be able to support high settings in 1440p (in case of upgrade). In this case a light drop of FPS would not be so important for me. I just want to be sure that DCS will satisfactorily run on 1440p.
My budget is limited however and I don't want to spend more than 360 euro for gpu. I have spent countless hours last days searching for card characteristics, temperature ranges, stock availabilities etc. Taking into account all these I decided that RTX 3060 would probably be the best choice but it costs at least 430-450 euro. Next choice is something between RTX 2060, RTX 3050 and RX 6600.
RTX 2060 has satisfactory performance but it is a 2019 tech and has 6 GB VRAM. These two made me thing that maybe it's not the best option after all. RTX 3050 with 8 GB VRAM might be a better option but I'm not sure if it's suitable for DCS requirements. Finally RX 6600 might be a very decent choice but I have read many reviews stating the higher temperatures along with higher levels of dB due to higher RPM fan operation. Are 6 GBs of VRAM enough for playing DCS in high settings without problems?
What's your thoughts gentlemen?
