Thx for your reply! But do I understand correctly that this is correct behavior? I am following him constantly and I would not expect loosing tally when he is passing so close only to reacquire him seconds later when he is further away! DLSS is off, btw.

Hello, I often have the issue - e.g. in a dogfight quickstart mission - that I merge with a bandit, following him visually passing my 11 or 1 o’clock position, but the he suddenly disappeares completely in the sky. Only to find him seconds later behind me. My LOD setting is 1.0 btw. and spotting dot setting is 2. What can I do? Many thanks in advance!

Server Recommendation for PvP A2A Training in the Phantom
SuperKermit replied to SuperKermit's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Thx guys for the hints! @Volator I will contact you via PM! -
I do experience the same issue, with air objects suddenly disappearing after the merge. This even happens e.g. in the F-4 instant action dogfighting the MiG-21 on the Caucasus map. So do I understand the current fix correctly: Goto: DCS install > Config > Graphics.lua Take down the view distance to 40000 Set the LOD value to 1.0 or above Right?

I understand that many people always want "THE BEST". However, by the time the Eagle got all these gadgets like Link-16, JHMCS and AIM-9X integration it was not the US' prime A2A fighter anymore. Some other airframe took over that role. In contrast I figure that there are many others that would love to enjoy flying the F-15 in a state when it indeed WAS the top-league air superiority fighter against the opponents of its time. DCS is supposed to be a simulation trying to replicate real life scenarios, right? And by the way - if the F-15C MSIP II is put into an 80s/90s scenario against its contemporary oppenents it probably is still (one of) the best It's just not the omnipotent über-plane some people would like to have. And you will have to adopt to the strategies and tactics of the time.

Thx for the information! Would be great if someone knowledgeable could elaborate!

Do I understand correctly: the APG-63(v1) is more modern than the APG-70? Which one was used in which iteration of the Eagle?
-
Absolutely correct. But tell me, what are the differences between firing an AMRAAM at a 30 miles target from an F-16 vs. from an F-18 or F-15? Is there any different skillset required? Maybe one jet’s radar has better range than the other, but that’s about it. The fascination in those Cold War scenarios lies exactly in the differences between aircraft and their respective strengths and weaknesses. Maybe one has the upper hand BVR, but the other might be better WVR. All that doesn’t matter if you are just lobbing Fox-3s at datalink targets and then go cold again.
-
Exactly, same here. I would much prefer a version that replicates a Cold War gone hot scenario. To me the F-15 is the pinnacle of fighter design of that era. And that ended - at least per my definition - with the fall of the Berlin Wall in '89. The addition of all the later developments just dilutes this experience.

Server Recommendation for PvP A2A Training in the Phantom
SuperKermit replied to SuperKermit's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
Thx for the hint, will try that out! ...and that's absolutely fine! I appreciate the much more realistic flying experience. From a pure training perspective, however, this is cumbersome. -
Hey guys, I just started my Phantom multiplayer experience on Heatblur's ECW server. However, I definitely need some A2A dogfight training. While I love the ECW server's realistic experience, getting a training experience is difficult due to the long startup and flight times. Can you guys recommend a friendly server for Cold War A2A training (e.g. only Gen 3 aircraft, Fox 1) with hot start and maybe even air spawn? Many thanks in advance!

What is the recommended pattern altitude? Didn’t find that in the manual.
-
I found the reason. First I have to apologize and thank you for giving thoughts to my issue. Ahem… I mistakenly bound the gear lever on my throttle to the gear circuit breaker instead of the gear itself. So the gear never went up after takeoff which stopped the fuel flow from the wing tanks Sorry for the confusion and thanks again for your support! P.S.: it’s amazing how good that thing flies even with the gear down
-
Ah, that’s new to me. Must have missed that in the manual. Thx for the explanation! It seems I have misunderstood that emergency function that force feeds fuel. This is from the manual: ”When the aircraft reaches a low fuel state automatic fuel transfer activates, forcing valves from internal wing and external tanks open regardless of what has been selected on the panel.” Shouldn’t that prevent the situation I experienced? Or does that system bot kick in because it thinks I have 4.000 lbs remaining?
-
Hm, could be possible. What is the default setting of that switch? Anyhow, somewhere I read that the fuel system has an emergency function that enables fuel flow from all tanks in a low fuel state regardless of the switch settings.
-
Not right now. In the scenario where that happened, no enemies were involved. I was hoping the number 4.000 lbs would ring some bells at someone like "ah, that's wing tank capacity, maybe you forgot to activate wing tanks." BTW: what happens when I do not have an external tank loaded, but the Ext. Fuel Feed Switch is switched to e.g. Center Tank Feed - would that prevent fuel from the wing tanks being used?
-
Hi everybody, I just started to learn the F-4 over the holidays and I just love the module. However, I struggle to understand the fuel system completely. I read the manual and several threads here on the forum. My issue is: I run out of fuel and the engines stop, however the fuel gauge still reads 4.000 lbs+ remaining. This can't be empty fuel remaining. What do I do wrong? Forget to flip a switch? Many thanks in advance!

What exactly are the parameters determining the dot size on AUTO (e.g. which screen resolution results in which dot size)?

No mentioning of fixed bugs or new functionality in the newsletter, however. Only optical changes mentioned. Do we know for sure there will be functional updates?
