I have a Quest 3. You are absolutely on point with the sensation. The stock facial interface is terrible. An alternative one is almost mandatory should you get a Quest headset. About Meta, I don't care but I understand other people's concern. The headset itself is very good. Clarity from edge to edge of the lenses is the main selling point, at a reasonable price. Shame it's made by a shady company. The Quest 3S is a Frankenstein made with Quest 2 leftovers. And it has the same fresnel lenses. Do not buy.

Hola.

I had a 3060ti until a week ago. You can play fine, accepting there's going to be compromises. Have you tried reducing your FoV? You can cut a good chunk of the total pixel count. It depends of the facial interface, how close your eyes are to the lenses, and the general shape of your face. In my case, I can't even see the difference with 0.85 or higher, so that's a nice boost right there. Start by lowering in 0.05 increments. So, 0.95, 0.90, .0.85, 0.80 until you start to see the black box. When you get to that point, it's too much, go back one step. You can do that with Oculus Tray Tool or Oculus Debug Tool. QVFR should be a good option too if your cpu can take the hit.

Is the texture resolution increased by 400%?
diego999 replied to LucShep's topic in DCS: MiG-29A Fulcrum
Absolutely. DCS is ruining performance and choking VRAM with overkill textures we can't even tell apart from another half its size. It's nonsense really. -
Best VR Headset (upgrade from Reverb G2)?

You might want to get out of the Public Test Channel if you want stability. Just saying. -
Dynamic AI Interceptors script
diego999 replied to Silderoy's topic in Scripting Tips, Tricks & Issues
Thank you! I will try your script tonight. -
Those are early access/dev drivers I won't touch with a ten foot pole. Glad it's working for you. I'll try once the version is properly released.

Installed Win 11 last week. Aside from the new UI I don't like, it's exactly the same for me. Tried the exact same mission looking at the frametimes in different situations. No difference.

In my case with the J preset the cockpit is much crispier and sharper, with a slight increase in GPU frametimes. Distant objects are noticeable less blurry than before. Ghosting, on the other hand, is horrible. Way worse than all other presets. My GPU is an old 3060ti, so maybe this new preset is aimed at newer cards? I don't know.

Good decision. Don't rush with the facial interfase thing. Try the stock one for some days and maybe you'll get used to it. For me it's workable, not amazing, but decent. The stock strap, on the other hand, is garbage. It's always giving you the sensation of being about to fall off your face. There you have multiple good priced options.

Setting the resolution to the max in the Meta App and a bit of increase in pixel density should give you good clarity (your 4090 should be able to go to PD 1.5, 1.6 or even more). Then you can play a bit with the encoding bitrate for fine tuning (max value is 960 but my pc can't handle more than 720). If I can read HUDs, cockpits and gauges with a 3060ti, you should be able to achieve amazing visual quality with your monster rig. You just need a bit of patience to find the right settings.

You are correct. No. Far from that. Don't buy any of the official Meta accesories. Look for third party ones. I've been using a $15 generic USB-C cable for the last two years, zero problems. For alternative head straps there are decent ones that will not add much to the total cost. And the face gasket, for me, it's perfectly serviceable. Your mileage may vary.

This. The MiG-19 is not a serious offender. It might be a little too good compared to the real thing but it's manageable. 15 and 21 are out of this world, and I would add the F-5 too. Another serious issue with AI planes is their perfect control at near stall speeds. Try this with the Mirage F1, for example. It can keep its nose pointed at will at 200kts, while you flying the plane in the same situation would drop like a brick.
-
So you're dropping your realism standards only to make a module that will be completely out of place in DCS, as every red asset it's going against is 20+ years older. If you can pull data out of your posterior to make the F-35, you can surely do the same with the Su-57, F-22, Su-30SM, J-20 and others. Right?

Q: Any plans for more contemporary (2010s) AI opponents? (F-35A)
diego999 replied to Avimimus's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I hope so. Abusing redfor planes 3 decades older is going to get boring fast. -
Even if it works, I don't think your GPU hallucinating most of the frames will make for a pleasant experience in VR.
-
Better ask again when the 5090 is eventually released and benchmarks appear. It can be fantastic, a failure or just meh. Nobody knows for now.
-
Maybe in 40 years when all the tech it uses is no longer classified.

No hot swap between 2D and VR. No ability to reconnect the headset. No saving during mission feature. DCS is seriously lacking in this regard.
