The impression that I got from the website is that it is logged to your account with them. Once you pay for the upgrade, you get the link and the serial number. I believe those stay with you account so make sure that you have a secure password for your account. I used Flashget as my download manager and got the whole patch in about 8 minutes (high speed) but at the same time, if I got disconnected then it will automatically pick up where it left off and generate a complete file upon download. So in answer to your first question, Pay to download AND activate. You have to pay first, then you get access to both the download and the activation key.

As I am sure that you have all seen, FC is finally out for us Westerners. Please form a nice quiet line and purchase and download your copy of FC. Then come back here and post what you think about the new add-on. As for me I am about a minute from buying it, I just figured that I would take the time to announce it here first. *Update* WOOHOO!!! Yes, I am going to buy this, in fact the second that I see it has been released, I will plonk down the money. I hope that they do have a PayPal option because I transfered the money there a long time ago in prep for the release.

Yeah, I realize that. I was just talking about if they were having legal issues. That might be a way around those issues. Just a thought. In the end I know that they would not make a profit and would most likely go out of business because most people would just download the "free" version without making a donation.

what are the legalities of releasing it as a "free" mod and accepting "donations" on their website? I would gladly give $35 to them if they need it that way instead of releasing it and making a profit off of ubi's software. Does that make sense or am I just babbling?

I agree with the first few posts. I'm sure that if you go back and read some of the gripe posts about the release date you will see me defending ED, and I still will. But, I am a little put off by the fact that they don't say anything. I don't care if it takes until next december, as long as they say: "Hey, guys, we are sorry about the delay, but these are our problems and these are our fixes. We will have a better scope on the release date on: *insert date here*" Instead, they just say nothing and I'm sure it's not lost in the translation. I totally understand that it takes a boatload of time to work out problems (I am a 3d and graphics guy by profession and deal with this kind of crap all the time), but it doesn't hurt to just give us a heads up every month, and I don't mean just changing the release date back a month. I'm sorry that I am tired of this, but there are only so many hundreds of times that I can look at their website expecting to see somthing, but all I get is a new screenie (which are cool). I'll still probably buy this when it comes out, but I would love an official update (in words). kdittyr

It sounds like a viable option for them, but it might increase their workload, as well. I think that would rule, but for the same reason that you said, it forces them to release patches on a more regular basis.

Wow, this is a really tough situation that the devs are in. They are getting people beating down their door for the release of a product that is, for all intents and purposes, finished. At the same time they are trying to protect their time, effort and digital property. I understand that everyone wants to play the hell out of the game, so do I. In fact, every time that I think about the game I get butterflys in my stomache and don't even want to look at the website for fear that it still isn't up (which it obviously isn't and won't be for a FEW MORE DAYS). Let me ask you this, do you like to play the game? Well, it is obvious that you do because you are moaning about the release taking so long. Would you leave your house all day without locking it up when you left? No. That would be completely stupid. So, why is it that you are asking them to not protect their personal sweat and tears? Give them a break and let them do their work so when it comes out it can be in pretty darn good working order. If you rush them to release the game BEFORE whatever protection is fully incorperated, I am willing to bet, that you would be the first one to scream about how they released a piece of crap game early to appease people like you and not actually fix the problems that they needed to fix.
