  1. So far, I am very impressed. Just make sure to set OpenComposite back to Steam VR (if you use that), and in SteamVR, you need to set the runtime back to SteamVR vs OpenXR. Set OpenXrToolkit to disabled unless you want to use some of it's features (colors, etc), but I can almost tell right now that I will be uninstalling OpenXRToolkit, OpenComposite and probably PimaxXR as well. SteamVR is smooth, and the scaling is very good. One caveat, OpenXRToolkit is great for enhancing the colors for Quest 3. So I may leave it installed for just that purpose, but other than that, Steam Link is now my GoTo. And I really do like Virtual Desktop, but can't really see a reason to use it now. So smooth and seamless, oh, and smooth. If you do elect to still use OpenXrToolkit, it seems there is no need to enable any type of eye tracking options. Just make sure you have eye tracking enabled for your Quest Pro. To Matt's credit, you can feel his spirit embedded all over this and for that I am so glad and thankful he had stuck with us for so long because I think he has moved Everything forward for us to enjoy VR even more, and better than ever Salute, Matt!!
  2. Just in case noone noticed, QP defaults to H.265 now as of a few weeks ago. So if you are using a bitrate higher than 200 and not specifying H.264 in ODT, expect many issues. Matter of fact, I don't even touch ODT anymore. The defaults work best for me.
  3. I had that option available for a couple of days on my Q3 last week but it's gone now. My guess is they probably removed it due to the extreme sensitivity of the Q3. If I placed my Q3 on a table where the headstrap landed in the right place, it would wake up. Sucks because on my QPro, the proximity sensor is not sensitive enough and I always have to (plug in USB) to disable the sensor with SideQuest. It was nice while it lasted, lol!
  4. For anyone using Globular Cluster comfort kit, a free upgrade to v2 is available. I'm awaiting mine but I hear very positive things about it. Just message john5936 on Discord for your free upgrade.
  5. @markturner1960 I just leave Encoder Resolution Width to 3648, wired or Air. Seems like some combinations of refresh rate or resolution will cause that lower half of the view to have a floating washout affect if you set Encoder Resolution Width too high. You can probably select a higher value than I run, but from what I can tell, the suggested values you find around the web are for Quest 2, not the Pro. I'm sure you can set it higher than 3648 w/o issue, but I'm too lazy to find a higher value since this works for me and I can't see a difference when I try for higher. Your second issue may be related to the first. When I bought my Pro, I also purchased the official USB cable for it as well as the full light blocker and the in-ear phones from Meta. I tried the light blocker; hated it. I didn't even open the packaging for the ear phones. Sent both items back to Amazon. Side note; I also recently purchased: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BM9Q2G8F?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details - totally sucked! and https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BZGZ3QL7?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details - totally awesome (Knuckles love)! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BYNF7JXC?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details - I purchased this along with my original Pro order and I highly recommend this headgear as well. I'm actually fine with the built-in audio. It's very hi-fi to my ears, has great positional audio, although not very private
  6. I purchased my QP a little over a month ago. I really cannot add much to what has already been said, but I concur that this has been my greatest VR experience thus far.
  7. @PannyI've run into this after using my G2 on my 8kx rig. Running the G2 seems to always default my C:\Steam\config\steamvr.settings - "maxRecommendedResolution" : 3240, For my 8kx, I always need to set it back to "maxRecommendedResolution" : 16384, to get things back to normal on the 8kx when using SteamVR. Note that the location of the file may be different on your rig, but you should be able to easily find it. As far as I can tell, this is a WMR thing.
  8. Again, I do not claim to be an expert in any of this nor do I want to be. I was just 'trying', it seems poorly, to describe something I 'discovered' that I thought someone else might find useful. I did the same in another thread where I discovered that flipping the orientation of MY AIO waterblock seriously reduced the heat profile on a 5800X3d and I seemed to get the same type of critical response I got here. It's not like I was telling everyone to flip their waterblocks. So many Karen-type folk these days. I am not trying to be controversial in any way, although my delivery/presentation may sometimes not be perfect. Been a long-time DCS fan, and have been quietly benefiting from some of the knowledge of folks here, and just thought I'd try to repay some of that. I guess I suck at it and will go back into view-only mode. "What we need is more developers like Asobo writing their apps with OpenXR, and like ED porting their apps to OpenXR." This, I concur! Also, I very appreciate your work, Sir. Brilliant!
  9. I am the village idiot on the subject. Someone else would have to answer but I can say that WMR natively supports OpenXR as well as SteamVR. I don't think it did back when I had a Valve Index and I only found out after recently getting a G2. 99% of the time I use a Pimax and 99% of that time I'm using OpenXR tools (OpenComposite, PimaxXR). Maybe OpenXRToolkit always worked with MSFS while in SteamVR mode, but it certainly was a surprise to me.
  10. I've tried several other games in VR but it appears MSFS is the only one I have that allows OpenXRToolkit to function while in SteamVR mode. Maybe it always had and I just happened to stumble upon it. It would be awesome if OpenXRToolkit worked on all VR titles while in SteamVR mode. I especially like some of the Post Processing you can configure with the tool and it really makes this particular sim more enjoyable. It's also just a matter of convenience for me since I play several games that require parallel projection be enabled in PiTool, which means I have to switch off all the OpenXR stuff, play my game, and then switch back to OpenXR when done. Not a huge deal, but it was quite the ah ha moment for me to actually see it!
  11. Sorry about the confusion I have caused. I guess I just got so overly excited seeing that Steam update message. Probably had a little beer in my eye as well, but, I had never seen the OpenXRToolkit status and FPSVR stats at the same time in any game before, but I do now see both when I play FS2020. Big o'l oops from me!!
  12. Well, I know for WMR, but this seems new for Pimax users. Probably not a big deal for anyone playing DCS on the non-Steam version, but since most of my library of things I play are in the Steam library, this was a welcomed surprise!
  13. SteamVR Beta just added OpenXR support! null I had just enabled SteamVR to have a quick round in Star Wars Squadrons and to my surprise, SteamVR Beta had an update notice. And even though I had disabled OpenXrToolkit, switched OpenComposite back to Steam as well as PimaxXR Control, I launched Squadrons as well as tried FS2020 and to my surprise, I had both FPSVR as well as OpenToolkit status displaying. Not only that, the experience was so smooth! I will try a few more games, but as far as I can tell so far, this is HUGE!! Less hoops to jump through because I do always miss the SteamVR interface for VR stuffs, but love the customization you can do using OpenXRToolkit. Next, World peace?
  14. Might want to check your steamvr.vrsettings / "maxRecommendedResolution" : 16384, Mine always resets to something like 3280 whenever I reboot and I have to manually put it back to 16384. It may have something to do with my having two HMD's connected, G2 and 8KX but I'm not sure.
  15. 4090 is the first GPU I can think of where I just don't find a reason to OC it. Mine (MSI Liquid) defaults to 94% power level, and of course the first thing I did was OC it to push memory to 10700 and GPU to 3000. Runs stable and not too hot (except for mem temp) but I just cannot discern a performance difference that matters other than the amount of heat and current when overclocked. I just leave it at stock now. Many even underclock power, GPU and mem clocks on their 4090's since there is minimal performance hit, but reduced heat, current draw and noise. 3DMark scores can be very enticing with a good OC on theses though, but otherwise.... blah.
  16. The 5800X3D is going back in tonight. It only takes me about 15 minutes to swap. What is amusing to me is that before rotating my waterblock, CCD0 was always coolest, always had several cores hitting 5+ghz and CCD1 almost never had any cores hitting 5+ghz. CCD1 used to always hit higher temps than CCD0. ANywho, I did discover why my testing of the 5800X3D produced such weird results and I have corrected that, and am back on track here kksnowbear: Not sure what about this thread triggered you so much, but I promise I meant no offense to you. I was just sharing an adventure, and I do welcome input from folks that know about stuff. So thanks, I hear ya, but I also know a few things too.
  17. And that was quite the adventure. The 5800X3D is a bad@ss chip, but in my rig with my gear, seems to not be a perfect match. It's much better in lessor loads, but on heavy sims where you want the highest VR resolutions possible, the 5800X3D does not provide the performance I can get with the 5950. For all else though, and especially racing sims, the 5800X3D gives me better performance at high res in VR. So, this chip will go to my other grandson. Looks like I really am at the end of the line for AM4. Not a bad run and it ain't over yet. I expect this rig will hold me for at least a couple more years, hopefully.
  18. Prime95 small fft's is about the only way I can get this rig to throttle now. I am very happy with the results. To recap, my CPU was running too hot at idle and under load. My fix was to rotate the waterblock 180 and that fixed the CPU issue. I also reversed the six fans on the top radiator to be intakes instead of exhaust, and increased the rear fan exhaust speed to steady 1400rpm. I also have a large fan in the bottom of the case that I also reversed to an exhaust fan. End result is all system components are running cooler and quieter. I am happy with the outcome and hope this helps anyone else facing the issue.
  19. I'm gonna go take a nap. BTW, the 5800X3d stays. For now.
  20. As for this radiator discussion, kksnowbear is correct on theory, but in practice, it's not always easy to achieve when dealing with more than one radiator in a given PC case, thus presenting a conflict or challenge if a goal is to have positive or equal air pressure within the case, while at the same time having both radiators as case exhausts, that get their air intake from a source outside the case. Duct work?!? At the end of the day, many have tested actual impact of a front rad acting as an intake and the general consensus is that although not optimal, the actual real-world impact on overall system performance is negligible, although measurable from a temperature perspective. For a top mounted radiator, thermal dynamics would indicate a conflict if you made that rad an intake. I've heard of folks doing it, but again, you would be feeding hot air into the case ordinarily, although I have seen a case that was built to exhaust this air through a special channel back to the outside of the case. I can't remember who makes it. I think in whatever situation, as long as the pump is lower than the radiator fittings, the risk of dry-pump is extremely minimal, unless the radiator fluid level is so low that it is barely effective in any heat dissipation. Dry pump, or no way to dispel air bubbles is a great way to cripple a loop and kill a pump. Back to my situation, it sure feels to me like there are some trade-offs going from 5950 to 5800X3D. I'm still trying to decide if it's worth it. With the 5950, I could set all settings in fs2020 to ultra and LOD to 400 on flatscreen and although I wouldn't actually use those settings, they at least ran. With the 5800X3D, those settings absolutely murder the CPU although once I set things to playable settings, it is more smoother than I have ever had. For playability I have to set LOD much lower for the 5800x3d for fs2020. I'm starting to look at DCS now too but initial impression is that I will likely put the 5950 back in. Maybe I am having other issues but it seems like my GPU frametime has increased although CPU frametime shows a very nice reduction. This forces me to run at lower res in VR and that is not something I want to do. For all my racing sims and also for Star Wars, the 5800X3D provides a much smoother experience with no compromise anywhere. More testing....
  21. So, I took the plunge and replaced my 5950x with the 5800X3D yesterday and the temps were insane, even after repasting 3 times. I tried the bead of rice method, smaller bead in center with small beads at corners, and also the X pattern. No difference, and temps would still shoot from 50c idle up to 90+ C while running cinebench r20 and only yield scores in the 5400 range. Lots of throttling between 4.2 - 4.3-ish. I also built a new rig for my grandson at the same time, also with a 5800X3D and his idle is 35c and hits high 5700's - 5800+ running cinebench r20 and temps top out at 70c or less. I get even better results with PBO2 -30 offsets. The biggest difference between these rigs as far as cooling is concerned is that my rig uses an EK Elite 360 with push-pull fans and I installed a Thermaltake 240 in his rig. Due to the layout and case constraints, I had to mount his CPU waterblock 180 degrees (upside down). The logo is upside down. I just flipped my waterblock upside as well and now I idle at 40c and hit 77c max while running cinebench and scores are 5700-ish with zero throttling. Haven't tried any games yet but I am certain things improve there as well. Again, even better when using PBO2 -30 offsets. Next step is to figure a way to reduce the bend/stress on one of the radiator hoses because I am not comfortable with it the way it is. Maybe even replace the AIO if I have to. I hear there are waterblocks out there that are specific to AMD chip layout and I also suspect this is why rotating my waterblocks is making such a huge difference.
  22. I'd say that is true for the 3090, but not so much for the 4090. Nothing scientific, but it is winter here, yet I don't need to close the vent and open the window when gaming hard with the 4090. It does put out some good heat, but not near as much as my 3090.
  23. Thanks for the reminder. I'm giving my grandson an older machine I have that has a 3950 and I am picking up a 5800x3d in the morning to replace it. I'm actually considering getting one to replace my 5950 but I just can't seem to get my head around that swap!
  24. It's surprising how big the sweetspot gets when you have enough GPU/CPU to really push things.
