  1. Got this e-mail today. How's this for an example of "artificial intelligence"? LOL We’re happy to share that Connection received stock of HP Reverb G2 units and started shipping pre-orders last week. While we have shipped a substantial number of units, we are still waiting on additional inventory to fulfill all pre-orders. Pre-orders placed prior to October 25 will ship in November or December, on a first come, first served basis. New orders are expected to begin shipping in January 2021. You’ll receive a shipment confirmation email as soon as your order goes out. We apologize for the wait—and we understand how eager you are to explore your favorite VR titles in stunning clarity and detail. Please know that our team is working hard to get every single unit shipped as soon as we have them in house. Thanks again for your patience, and we’ll be in touch soon! Sincerely, The Connection Team As I jokingly predicted, and exactly to the day of what I predicted (a week after it was shipped on November 11th) I get a notice from Connection thanking me for my patience and telling me mine will be shipped soon. I wonder if I'll be getting a second one for free. I'll have to check the software packet inside the box I got on Monday and see if Connection has sent me a free VR game where the object is to put a cart before a horse. I'll be playing that on my G2 while I wait for my G2.
  2. Yup, and the 45 your FPS counter is reporting isn't really 45FPS. The counter isn't capable of counting the interpolated frames, so what your eyes are seeing is actually a higher frame rate.
  3. You need the SteamVR for WMR plugin to get Steam VR and WMR to cooperate with each other for things like DCS.
  4. DOH! Sorry about that. Looks like it is much the same process though.
  5. Here you go, Don. Hopefully it works for you, I haven't tried it myself. Its current info though as of 4 days ago (edit: that was according to the Google hit on it. Looks like the actual date of the posting was over 2 years ago.) https://www.windowscentral.com/how-enroll-steamvr-beta
  6. There is a single sheet setup guide that shows you the sequence for connecting everything. There is more documentation in the box, but since I already had WMR set up on my rig, I haven't needed to even open the box it came in. I plugged it in, and it went right to work. Even the bluetooth pairing between the HMD and the controllers was already done on the G2, so those went right to work as soon as the batteries were installed and I powered them up.
  7. Glad you're getting it figured out, and it looks like the link that lobo** gave you has been updated to match a more current version of SteamVR. If your FPS counter isn't locked at 45, that's a definite indication that motion reprojection isn't turned on. I think setup issues are the biggest thing that is going to cause people to like or dislike a headset right out of the box. You'll get it all figured out, and then you'll be an old pro at it.
  8. Even coming from a G1, I can definitely see a difference in the quality of the picture. The colors are all much deeper than they were on the G1. Sitting in the cockpit of the A-10C and looking around, its difficult to describe, but everything has such detail to it now it almost felt like I could actually reach out and touch switches and knobs. As others have reported, SteamVR sets its default SS to 150%, which gives you some crazy resolution (I think in the 4000x4000 range), so I dialed mine all the way back to about 40%, which yielded numbers close to the native 2160x2160 of the G2. Even at that SS level, it was spectacular, amazingly clear. When I get more time on the weekend, I'll do some flying in the A-10C and see how far I can push the SS (also get motion reprojection turned on). The comfort is fantastic. The back of the headband on the G1 had a tendancy to push at odd angles at the back of my head, which gets very uncomfortable after a while if you have super short hair like I do. No such problems with the G2. My only gripe with the things done for comfort is that the G2 may be a little too light, so you have to make it settle into the right place. But, once you get it there, it stays, so it won't be a big deal after I get used to it. The jury is still out on the off-ear speakers. They sound great, but they require the volume to be set at 100%. The redesigned controllers are a big plus with this as well. They don't feel quite as good as the Oculus Touch controllers, but they're close. I don't immediately hate using them, so I might actually feel inclined to learn some of the advanced features that SteamVR has to offer.
  9. I feel your pain, Burnerski. I went from the Rift CV1 to the Reverb G1 when that first came out, and I was so frustrated with it after a couple of hours of screwing around with it that I almost sent it back. As I said in the main G2 thread, going from the Oculus software to WMR/SteamVR is like learning a new language. Keep at it though. Its just different, and definitely clunky, but with a little perseverance you'll get it figured out like I finally did. Once I got it figured out, I was surprised to see that I actually got better performance with the Reverb because I no longer needed the high DCS PD (I had my PD set at 2.0 with the Rift). I set DCS PD to 1.0 and made sure my SteamVR SS setting was set so it would report a resolution of roughly 2160X2160. Then I went on to turning motion reprojection on and I went from frustrated to amazed. Unfortunately, I had already upgraded my 1080ti to a 2080ti before I got the G1, so I can't say with any certainty whether your GPU is a major issue or not. I can tell you that the upgrade didn't appear to make much difference when I was running the CV1 though. It seemed a little clearer and had more depth in VR, but performance-wise, I had no difference that I could see.
  10. Wrong again, imacken. I explained in detail what I do as an alternative to your way, and explained quite clearly why its what works best for me. My hatred of the controllers is really a moot point now, since the G2 controllers are supposed to be a great improvement on all the things I dislike about the current controllers. Maybe I'll start using them more if they're not so clunky, and then your way will make sense for me. As of right now, my way works best for me (and may work best for others who find themselves in the same situation). Just offering alternatives and trying not to get caught up in entrenched dogma.
  11. Yes, that is the way this works. If it doesn't, then there is something wrong with your setup. You have clearly missed all the posts that basically said "All this time I thought I had to click here, then click here...open this, open that...close this...open that...when all I had to do was plug the headset in and open DCS after WMR fired up automatically"
  12. Which happens automatically when you plug the headset in. No need to over-complicate things. :smartass:
  13. No. I quoted the part of your post that I was responding to. Big difference. :smilewink:
  14. I have never had problems with launching DCS from the desktop, just like before. I just plug the headset in, wait for WMR to recognize it and give me the "ready" message. Then...double-click the normal DCS icon on your desktop, pull the HMD down over your eyes, position yourself in your comfortable playing position, and wait for the exploding triangles. Should be getting mine on Monday! :punk:
  15. True, but you're leaving out the part about digging the controllers (which I don't use for anything due to their clunkiness) out of the box each time you want to just press that one button. ;) I could either do that, or just open Notepad++, which always has a tab that takes me right to the current version of the config file. In my situation, my way is easier, and isn't going to be affected by the next change Steam decides to make to the interface to make it "look cooler". That config file will always be right there where I left it.
  16. Its definitely a culture shock going from the well-designed simplicity of Oculus software to the more clunky WMR/SteamVR combo, but once you get things figured out, its not so bad. The default resolution relationship with SteamVR was all screwed up in the early days of the G1 too, with many people with much of the same hardware seeing all kinds of different default numbers being reported by SteamVR. With the G1, I'm still setting motion reprojection the old way of changing the lines in the config file because I hated the G1s WMR controllers so much. Hopefully the G2s controllers will be better and I can start using the dashboard thingie. WMR is a PITA, but you'll get it figured out, Don. It'll just be like learning a new language for a little bit.
  17. No e-mail notification here either, but I just checked my order and it shipped yesterday. Not very good communication on their part, but at least its on its way. Heh, I'll probably get a "GOOD NEWS! WE'RE SHIPPING YOUR G2!" e-mail a week after it gets here.
  18. Yup. I ordered mine through Connection on 5-29-20.
  19. It has been even longer than that. I ordered mine at the end of May, and I think that was after sitting on the fence about it for a week or two.
  20. Same here. Nothing from Connection...still showing the status as "backordered".
  21. Well, I ordered mine on May 25th and haven't gotten a notice that mine has been shipped yet. I'm also lucky to still be alive after almost a year of chemo, radiation, and 6 surgeries, so I can wait for my G2 to show up. Its all about perspective I guess.
  22. Heh. Maybe it was to go along with the white/blue format of Facebook that this forum now has, along with so many others. As I'm typing this, I see a button for adding an "FBV" tag to your posts. Not sure what it stands for or what it is, but I'm thinking the FB part stands for Facebook.
  23. Just more things that affirm that I made the right choice in ordering a Reverb G2. None of what's happening with Facebook surprises me, considering what the original purpose of "The Face Book" was.
  24. Yup. Just like all of the careers that have been ended, and all the lives completely destroyed, over out-of-context posts made in a "safe" area of social media. Sometimes those posts were even made 12 or more years ago. Governments no longer have to spy on their citizens...their citizens do that for them (with their phone cameras and microphones). Its a scary world. On a lighter note on the subject. When I started up my Rift CV1 this past weekend, I got a pop-up saying that I needed to create a Facebook account. After carefully examining that dialog box, I found a button that I was able to click to opt out of using a Facebook account. Not sure if new users will have the same choice though. I'm not under any illusions that I'm safe, just "more safe" than I would be if I voluntarily gave yet another unknown on-line entity the go-ahead to spy on me in ways they never fully disclose. All we can do is manage the threat.
  25. Wow. That's a whole lot of typing just to make it clear that the true meaning of the post you responded to went right over your head. It was an analogy of just how bad things can get when people willingly share "harmless" information, and those people in Amsterdam hadn't already had it proven to them just how devious and untrustworthy the people asking for the information were. If those people had continued to willingly share their religious preference AFTER Hitler had invaded and started making people "disappear", THAT would have been more like what we have today with Facebook. People know that they're bad news, and continue to justify sharing their lives with them because, "Well, other places are just as bad, so we might as well make it easy for them". See? Sounds silly when someone says it like that, doesn't it? Yet, that is EXACTLY what some people are saying in this thread. You can count me as one of those people who would walk away from my mobile phone in a heartbeat. If my company didn't pay for mine, I wouldn't have one. I'm old-school. I lived quite easily without one until 2008, and to this day it doesn't get used outside of business hours. As far as pictures go, well, they can have all the avionics equipment and data plate pictures they want. Kind of a strange fetish for someone to have, but, whatever floats their boat I guess. :D
