Hi HB,
Just a few things to polish up this magnificent beast:
SoundDCS Issue, reposting in appropriate forum
If you pause the game and choose 'Messages History', then click 'Close' there is no sound on returning to the cockpit.
(As a workaround; if you pause again, go to 'Briefing', then click 'Fly' the sound returns.)Training Missions
Dive Toss tutorial
Not a biggie, but in the voiceover, it mentions that you should see a smoke marker at the disused airfield near Kobuleti, but it isn't there.Model
Nose/Tail Arming Switch
It looks like the wrong (2-way) switch housing is being used, as the switch geometry intersects the housing:
Here's an original:

Which looks the same (near enough) as this one in the WSO radar panel, so hopefully easy to swap out:

Speaking of the WSO, I think this should be AOJ, no? [Something] on Jam? (The manual mentions AOJ rather than AOU.)
Anyway, only small stuff, but thought it was worth mentioning.
Cheers guys.
Tim

Agreed. I've already created a thread for this here. Might be worth adding your voice:
Hopefully this will get some traction and response from ED.

Whilst we’re making requests; it would be great to have deep dive training on navigation/radio navigation with all the different modes along with ILS landings etc in various weather scenarios, fog/mist/rain, night flying etc

Have you checked out the MIG Killers training campaign? Might give you the skills you’re looking for. Looking to buy it myself, once I’ve finished basic training. Only a tenner as well, which is a bargain, considering the research that went into it.

Working now as well. Thanks for sorting, @BIGNEWY and team, being Xmas day and all. Have a great xmas break.

Update: Thanks for all your advice peeps. I just got round to retrying the lesson and finished it successfully! Woop!
Guess I just needed to be more accurate on basically everything
, but I feel a lot more confident navigating now.
Thanks again!

Also at about the 3:00 point in your video you are flying straight through the tacan radial that you were supposed to intercept and instead you keep flying straight ahead further and further off-course.
I think the problem was I kept getting a bit overwhelmed as I'm new to this and kept checking my numbers for the next turnpoint I'd written down, which is why I flew past the radial.
1 hour ago, Snappy said:I don’t understand why you are changing the HSI course again afterwards, you shouldn’t do that.Recommend you re-read Zabuzards post and watch the IFR training video he posted again. He explained it pretty well.
I was trying to set up the third waypoint as a last ditch attempt to get on course, shown here:
1 hour ago, Snappy said:Dont take this the wrong way, but I think you haven’t fully understood the basic IFR navigation concept yet.
I've got lots to learn for sure! I understand the concept of radials and DMEs (I completed the visual landing mission first time using it), but it's utilising it under pressure when there's quick waypoints and loads of other things to think about. I think also I need to be more aggressive in turns like Corn322 mentioned. I'm used to flying 30° banks in a Cessna irl!

Ah, I thought the 350 knots was just a minimum. Thanks for the other pointers, I’ll give them a try and see if they work out.

This mission is really doing my head in. I've got the concepts down from the videos and explanations above and used the TACAN for the Pilot Visual Landing mission successfully. I'm pretty sure I'm turning at the correct distances from the TACAN, and adjusting the course as specified, but there's nothing showing up on the F10 map. There's also no indication that I've hit the waypoint from the voiceover, just warnings that I'm departing for the flight corridor. I've also reached 13.5 nautical miles before I've even intercepted the 089° radial, so I'm then changing it to 166° for the third waypoint and by that point I don't know what the hell I'm doing

Here's my latest run through:It's all a bit demoralising after many tries, especially after being so excited to learn this bird. I thought I would've moved past this by now. Can someone help?
Maybe the training missions need those green squares like the TF51 training as a bit of hand holding for noobs like me?

Hiya HB,
I'm just wondering if you'd consider making the hitboxes(?) for the cockpit switches bigger? Sometimes it can get a bit fiddly trying to turn something on when the head tracking keeps moving. At the moment, it seems to be located exactly on the switches, but I feel like the radius could be bigger without affecting the surrounding switches. What do you think?
Cheers,
Tim

Is there a plan to animate the buttons etc on the throttle and stick? Coming from the F-4 it feels a bit weird that nothing moves on them. I was hoping that this latest update would have them, so I was a bit disappointed.

The throttle's fantastic. So many buttons compared to the TM Warthog I sent back. Paired it with the 15E throttle grips, but probably should have got the EX, as the extra returning scroll wheels would have come in handy for view zoom.

Ah, I was hoping basic free flight / cold start / takeoff / landing would be added for the instant action on the Afghanistan map in this update. Maybe next release?

I've had a different experience. Everything went smoothly for my Warthog HOTAS purchase, plus the finger lift kit later (ridiculously overpriced, but hey ho). I've posted questions via their instagram account and they've been clear and concise and the English is good. Maybe try again? You might get a different employee responding.
My only gripe is that for a premium product, the packaging is terrible (albeit functional), but maybe Apple's ruined me!

Ah, interesting insight. Sounds like that might be the issue then. I'll have to follow the checklists a bit closer next time!
It was just a short flight, so no ordnance or external fuel tanks.

Do you happen to have "random failures" activated in your mission?
Hi Zabuzard, no, it was an instant action cold start.
1 hour ago, Zabuzard said:There is also G-based stuff, but that would read "Stress Damage"
There was stress damage in the inner and outer wings, immediately after the compressor stalls, but I thought it might be related to the CSs somehow. I did pull a hard 180 after takeoff, but it wasn't for long and there were no warning tones. If it was the Gs that caused the issue, I'm a bit surprised. I thought the F-4 was a bit more robust than that!

Also worth noting, all events happened immediately and there were no fire warnings or panel lights on previously. -
I was in straight and level flight using AFCS, ten minutes in and I was suddenly surrounded by flames and had to eject. Debrief said the following, amongst other failures:
First Issue: Compressor Stall L+R
Stress Damage in Wing / Wing Inners + Outers
Hit Damage Wing Inner Flaps, slats etc etc
Mechanical Failure in Actuators
Then a bunch of other hit damage, I'm assuming from broken parts flying about and finally fuel leak and KABOOM.
Any idea on how to understand went wrong? I don't know if I missed something in cold start that I should have turned on or something. I'm pretty sure I didn't get hit, as the airspace was clear, with nothing from the RWR or Jester regarding threats. Unless it was just a farmer with a gun!
Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Just something for the wish list. Is there a plan to make a dark mode for the F-14 manual, like the F-4 documentation?

I think this is a similar issue.
DCS has low replay fidelity, which is especially bad for the F-4E, which uses the Jester.
I think it would be more fun if the replays were more accurate, but I don't know when they'll be improved. X(
@Hikaruncat Ah, thanks. Somehow I missed that in the forum search.
@Zabuzard Yes, it was a cold start, so what you mentioned makes sense, as the Jester wheel was open during replay. I'm guessing this is pretty far down the list for fixing?-

Hi there,
I've just had a flight in which I definitely removed the chocks and watch Jester close his canopy, but during the replay the chocks are still in place as I'm taxiing and jester 's canopy is still open. The result being that the canopy get blown off after takeoff and the gear is damaged and won't close properly. Due to the lack of pressure, the plane is also shaking all over the place, things that definitely didn't happen in flight.
Anyone else with this issue? Latest version btw.

It's the first plane I bought for DCS and I absolutely love it. Although I still have to learn combat, just starting her up and cruising around these incredible maps is a fantastic experience in itself. The attention to detail is incredible, and although the ergonomics are for crap, most of what you need is within reach in-flight. It has a feel you just don't get with the F-16 or F-14, which I bought in the recent sale (Although these are great too!).

Tim, Its easier to pause the game, Alt TAb to the desktop and plug the acronym into the browser! Plus Most Official Air-Force ,Navy sites have a premade list of acronyms ready to go!
Hey Joe, yes I know, that’s what I’m currently doing, and have several bookmarked, but as I mentioned, it interrupts the flow of learning. It would just be nice to have everything in one place and be as easy as possible for us MILAV noobs to learn. A quick tooltip with small summary could save a lot of time in the long run.

I was really looking forward to having a blast around in my new jets, but there isn't any free flights or cold / hot starts etc for the F-4E and F-14 in the map. Are you planning on adding those at some point?
Many thanks,
Tim

Hi ED,
Found an annoying audio bug: If you pause the game and choose 'Messages History', then click 'Close' there is no sound on returning to the cockpit. As a workaround, you have to pause again, go to 'Briefing', then click 'Fly' and sound returns.
