  1. Fair enough. You should visit a botanical garden here in Germany. It will blow your mind!
  2. Some people over on Reddit are saying that it is the Vietnamese embassy on the right. I say it could be everything. Also there seems to be an antenna on that roof which the embassy didn't have, I think. Then again, there are some distinct palm leaves over the eagle which would fit neither Germany nor Central Korea.
  3. This is a must. Best case scenario, they give us two templates for the map. One with airbases and POIs for the 2000s and one for the 1980s. Just like we need an 80s version of Iraq for the Iran-Iraq war. With that being said, I was surprised how good and unique the Afghanistan map actually feels. I am running the trial currently and I think the overwhelming negative reaction is a bit exaggerated. I still won't buy it just yet. It's a region where a lot happened (and much more could have happened in the Cold War if one uses some imagination) and having the focus only on the GWOT just doesn't cut it anymore. I don't even own Russian A/Cs (yet) but having map versions that allow for Cold War scenarios is just a must by now. I haven't counted them but it feels like that there are more Cold War planes (and I am counting the F-16 in for both CW and modern era) than modern aircraft. So any new terrain needs to accomodate this new reality. Likewise, when we get a Southeast Asian map, Cambodia needs to be in there as well so we are able to simulate the Cambodian-VietnameseWar as well AND also a modern conflict with parts of China being in there, too. Yes, that's a lot to ask. But then again, those maps costs 50€ and will be costing 70€ on full release, and there have been so many map releases lately that the actual package that we get must be a bit bigger than just the terrain for one specific timeframe which would make half the aircraft useless and/or kill immersion for any scenario outside that timeframe. And I am also implying new AI assets here... We have Iraq and Afghanistan, and especially the latter is very much focused on COIN operations. And yet we have like two or three Insurgent models. In a similar vein, AI for ground units MUST improve heavily. Iraq, Afghanistan and future Vietnam all have a very strong focus on Air-to-Ground. And with the ground AI being what it is, it is just not worth it for me right now to purchase Afghanistan, even though the 'feeling' of the map draws me towards a purchase. To summarize: all those new maps being churned out are fine and dandy, but the core game needs to improve heavily in certain aspects so that those maps can actualize their full potential. EDIT: Also, why are there no civilians in the game? Especially for Afghanistan this would be very important to actually make the usual A/G strike and CAS and DEAD missions much more tense in that you would have to double and triple check your target. EDIT2: diego999 obviously said it much better than I. With only using a fragment of my word count...
  4. It's also over on Elon Musk's private playground. Chitter or something like that.
  5. At what time do they usually release news / videos / newsletters?
  6. If you've missed it: No info on what map it will use though.
  7. Thanks for the fast reply! I too judged the threat negligible but I wanted a second opinion so thanks for that! I am basically only going to use your Expansion mod, Foothold and, as mentioned, DCS Liberation/Retribution.
  8. How safe is it to do the de-sanitizing thing for a singleplayer like me who doesn't engage in any multiplayer stuff (but obviously is connected to the internet while playing)? Also, is there some autoscript that I can use that reverts the file back on the press of a button? (Similar to how DCS Liberation/Retribution do it where it restores the mission script file back to vanilla once you close the Liberation/Retribution app.)
  9. I also don't understand why such a basic feature isn't implemented. Having a hard time judging when or if a file was updated.
  10. Nevermind.
  11. That's a relief, as was finding this thread. I really though I'm a complete idiot with the F-16C. With my confidence reassured, I will tackle this mission again very soon.
  12. I am a beginner and this is my first campaign but I think finding the drone is super frustrating as well. I've watched Connor's playthrough of this specific situation multiple times, I've tried the mission myself multiple times, and when I find the drone it seems to be pure luck. Even my three wingmen need about 20 minutes (sped up) to find the drone when I give them the mission order. (I think when you issue that order they go back to the CAP area and just stumble upon the drone as soon as it comes into their area.) Possible solutions: 1. I would assume the AWACS is able to not only spot such a big drone for a few seconds but also keep the track? So maybe it is possible to at least have the contact permanently on the HSD aka Datalink16? That would make tracking the target a lot easier. 2. Since I understand that you want to make this a bit more difficult, maybe you can have the drone hover around a specific zone and let the AWACS give you specific intel (bearing 315, hovering) --- that way the player still needs to find it with their eyeballs but doesn't have to navigate around the map blindly.
  13. I've noticed this as well. Mission 1 - no problems. But in mission 2 and mission 3, some of the dialogue transcriptions disappear after the first sentence is spoken.
  14. I am not saying that you made the same mistake but it is not enough to set the right frequency, you also have to press the correct transmit button. As per the manual, p. 256 (upd Dec. 20th 2024): I wanted to scream here in the forums: the tanker doesn't work, it won't respond! my wingmen doesn't comply and doesn't answer! Not even the tower is answering! Wtf! No, it was simply my error to only press [\]. Once I used the correct transmit switches, my wingman (wingwoman?) engaged like a proper fighter pilot (and much better than I did).
  15. As a newcomer to DCS, I approve of this kind of thing! Currently playing the Dragon's Fury campaign and it's just nice to have the Chinese assets pack and the Marianas map for free. I still am going to buy Kola and Syria and the Viggen and the Warthog and some campaigns during this sale --- it's just great not every piece of new content is a paid module! The patch also rocks. I didn't expect that, today of all days!
