  1. Have fun exploring. Some areas described down to the individual building :-) http://wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=37.423617&lon=-116.415253&z=10&m=b&show=/3657275/Mock-targets-for-Red-Flag-exercises
  2. When I saw the thread title, no exageration, I actually said to myself 'I wonder how many posts it would take before someone does the pretentious "it's a sim not a game" or go back to HAWX/Warthunder/Flappy bird" nonsense," rather then offer help and advice to a newcomer. Post number 2... well done community. Well done. *slow clap* OP to answer your question, I would echo the less insecure parts, and thankfully the majority of our communities responses and say Bunyap on youtube would be an excellent place to start. You can learn along with him. In fact, youtube in general. Also there are some great organisations that have put out excellent guides in pdf form, do a search for the 476th VFG, their contribution is excellent. Stick with it. It will reward you in the long run. Set yourself some objectives, for example fly a perfect circuit. Or learn how to dive bomb, and then develop that in to a roll in attack. Search the forum don't be afraid to ask questions, mostly people here are very helpful. And finally go online, play with other people and join a virtual squadron. Having others fly with you and help you will do wonders for your flying. Good luck!
  3. ..... wow
  4. Yeah. We don't have a player controllable Tu-95 to recreate that particular aircraft's tail gunner favourite in. ;) I've seen the photo but can't find it now. I suppose we just have to accept the possibility that some people might not have seen Top Gun... Or understand irony. Daaaaaanger zoannne!!!! LANA!!!!
  5. Well that escalated quickly
  6. Nope. If there was no wind at the nose then it would turn. Otherwise the object in a fluid will simply move relative with the fluid.
  7. Hi Bestandskraft, I am not in the 476th or responsible for developing any of this useful stuff. I was more trying to disabuse CaptainMidnight of his view that unguided weapons delivery was merely a "high speed bombing run" done off the cuff due to "nasty surprises". My understanding is that this data was gather using a tool that they wrote called DAPS (Digital Attack Planner) which is not publicly available. You would need to join their excellent squadron to get access to it. If you read through the thread that I posted there are some good examples in it of how to utilise the tables. Ultimately though you do not require to adjust the sight. If your speed, altitude ATL and dive angle are correct (all of these things will mean that your AoA is a known quantity) for the calculated delivery, your bombs will hit if the depressible pipper is over the target or not. It is merely a reference to check you've got your flying right. What you are referring to is something called the "bombing triangle" http://navyflightmanuals.tpub.com/P-1219/P-12190044.htm (you can navigate through that document by clicking the page numbers in the top right) As I only ever drop Mk82's the battle book works for me. I understand that there is data available for Russian munitions but sadly I do not speak Russian so haven't spent much time searching. So in short... a) correct b)sadly correct c) refer to the manual I linked in order to begin to understand how to work it out. Maybe some testing of Russian munitions might be a good project to gather data! I understand that's how the 476th got their numbers for the munitions, but I could be wrong.
  8. I suggest you start here http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=99688 and also research what a z-sled diagram is. You will find them for many aircraft in real life ;-) Your ideas about real world unguided munitions delivery are a little bit misinformed. Attack profiles are flown very accurately, and to plan in terms of dive angle, release point, minimum altitude and escape manoeuvre, even in CCIP modes, and are not just a "bombing run" done on the hoof. These attack profiles are known in advance and trained. Pilots don't just "put the thing on the thing" and squeeze the trigger. If flown correctly they should allow accurate delivery with the fixed net or depressible pipper sights in addition. I suggest you watch the following video for an idea of how to achieve this level of realism in the sim. There are also some videos of this being taught in the real world in the T-38, but I can't recall the channel they were on. To the OP, this will also go a long way to correctly answering your questions :-)
  9. Yep. I am in a very similar situation. Never able to spend my bonus bucks! Needs a bit of a rethink. I understand that pre-sale items are already discounted, but then in order to spend my bonus on anything, I have to wait until release. Where is the incentive in that? ;-) I have to wait... and at the same time, I don't provide any support to the developer during development. The bonus does seem a little bit of a hollow gesture if you're a loyal fan. Fine for someone who is getting into it now and wants to build up their collection, but where is the reward for the people who have been in it since Flanker 1.0?
  10. Tired it. No difference. When you get close to being trimmed out at level flight one click up is too much as is one click down. I wonder if in the 39 if the trim switch is progressive rather then digital. I can't imagine the real airframe has such a granular trim. Wonder if someone from ED could comment comment?
  11. Set power, change pitch, trim out force for new attitude. Any input would be appreciated!
  12. Glad it's not just me ;-) could be that's how it is though.
  13. Yup, exactly the same for me.
  14. hit left alt and return and see if that improves it. There is a thread somewhere that is saying that v-sync isn't working as full screen isn't really full screen until you do that, but rather a borderless window.
  15. If you have a TM warthog you can bind it to the idle shutoff stop on the throttle. Works really well. Move it out of cutoff and engine lights.
  16. It's like each click moves the stick too much. You end up rocking the wings. Click one way aircraft rolls, click the other way aircraft starts opposite roll. Same story with pitch, you only seem to be able to trim the forces out by accident or sheer luck. Is there a lua entry that controls stick deflection per press?
  17. As far as I'm aware Dof Setting only effect the external view. There is a bit of a blue colour cast to all the terrain. Something is not quite right. Not awful, just not quite right.
  18. Ok. If watching an aircraft blink out of existence is realistic. Go for it, have fun, feel free to enjoy the sim your way. As done with this discussion as I was a year ago.
  19. I'm finding it very difficult to get the l39 trimmed and stable. Any tips or am I just rubbish? I can normally get the A-10 with it's notorioustly twitchy trim hands off stable, but this is kicking my arse for some reason.
  20. And when the aircraft in DCS got a fraction of a degree arc of vision bellow the size of that MASSIVE pixel it disappeared and stopped being rendered. See the problem? (pardon the pun)
  21. If you feel brave close DCS and try deleting this folder (take a backup first) C:\Users\YOURNAME\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Config\Input\MiG-21Bis Then re run 1.5. Same thing happened to me this fixed it. In my case it was because I had copied over my controls from 1.2.
  22. So no RSBN option in Georgia. Which I guess is realistic. But does make radio navigation a challenge. NDB?
  23. Then you should realise why it was unrealistic before. The relative arc of an aircraft on a 1920 by 1080 monitor was such that it became smaller then 1 pixel at a range that was far closer then what the human eye can in real life distinguish. This meant aircraft effectively disappeared or couldn't be seen manoeuvring when in reality the relative arc distance would mean that the human eye could see it. The new system compensates for this bringing a more realistic representation of what the human eye can do when it's not limited by a relatively low resolution. I work with optics and have some experience of the limitations of the human eye. This has been discussed to death. Move on.
  24. Yep 8gb update just popped
  25. Or mine, just the updater updating.
