  1. Grabbed it last night Vyrtuoz and looks great. I have one small problem on my new box Q6600 with 9600GT video card...my screen will black out intermittently when I try to play a tac file in tacview. Its almost like Tacview is exhausting the capabilities of my display. Runs Lockon on high detail @1680 x 1050 vut cant run tacview without black screen. Any ideas?
  2. I have just done a fresh install and applied Walmis F15 mod and the Sim-Mod A10 which all works as advertised. As a precaution I backed up my meinit.xml before using Modman to apply the following mod. Thanks for making it a bit easier there CEROL. A quick test flight revealed in the Mission Editor payload screen , that not all of my comprehensive list of skins for the A10 were available and so a quick check of the back up meinit.xml and the now edited one revealed vast differences. Acting on impulse I backed up the new meinit.xml (in case I wanted to uninstall the mod) and I reinstated my first backup (from the fresh install with Walmis F15 and A10 Sim Mod, but prior to applying ALS mod) and then I simply manually edited the meinit.xml from step 4. down ( as I figured that CEROLs mod had done all the rest correctly). All works fine and the A10 skins and I am presuming Walmis F15 should all be as they should be. Short version 1. back up your current meinit.xml 2. Apply CEROLs mod for ASL (Thanks HUAF by the way) 3. Reinstate your backed up meinit.xml 4. Edit it manually as per HUAFs post/quote from step 4. onwards 5. Base all your missions on the ALS.mis (use it as a template, thanks Lucky Bob) Cheers
  3. Can anyone confirm whether ECM blinking has any effect whatsoever against AI piloted enemy. Not being an "ECM blinker" myself, I tried stabbing "E" repeatedly on my keyboard whilst pressing a BVR engagement and it didnt seem to deter the AI at all, who managed to get a lock and launch on me. Was just wondering...
  4. The Event I like to fly online whenever possible, and always try and use whatever online Comms are running for that server, be it TeamSpeak or Ventrillo. When there's not much happening (I am GMT +10) I will fly offline and try and hone my skills or try an airframe I am not as familiar with. I see in this thread that several of the offline only crew like the sound of an online coop flight. The logic here is quite understandable, You would still be flying against AI Aircraft and AI Surface to Air threats, only your wingman, escorts and fellow package members would be piloted by humans, which are hopefully more reliable for you than the AI ones. The enemy AI pose no greater threat to your survivability and ego than what they normally would in an offline encounter, and you get to experience flying and fighting in coordination with fellow Lock On enthusiasts with voice comms as well. Notwithstanding that there are always plenty of servers running on Hyperlobby, I think its going to require a little bit more coordination to ensure that its as easy and painless as can be, to encourage more offline pilots to try a little bit of online, and I can think of no better medium than right here in this forum and in this very thread if need be, to get things started. I am not a server owner so it would require the cooperation of a Server admin to make their server available for a session as a COOP with maybe some GCI AI to shoot at and some nice AG targets as well. But here's the thing, I think we should only request this after we have all confirmed here, that, Yes, we would like to participate. Maybe even with suggestions as to what airframes you would like to fly and what sort of engagement you would like to participate in. Now of course online flying just isnt right unless you can talk to your fellow pilots. So if you dont already have one, go and buy a headset with a mic and download Teamspeak. Have a go at getting it all to work and if you have any problems, report back here and we will help fix them. If it requires a comprehensive guide as to how to use TS in a flight sim environment then I am happy to expand on this, but the main points to note are; Install Team Speak, plug in your new mic and headset, set the TS TX (transmit) function to PTT (Push To Talk), map the PTT key you selected to your HOTAS or just make it a handy key on the keyboard. Now its not mandatory, but probably easier for all, if you install Hyperlobby, and also ensure that you are running a relatively straight v1.12a install. Anyhow the finer details can be elaborated on here prior to the event. "The event", it has a nice ring to it, I think I will use that as a point of reference. The primary purpose of "the event" is to see how many, normally offline, pilots we can get in the air at the same time, in an online environment. Maybe given the many different time zones, we could have multiple "events" planned across the globe, all participating in the same engagement, and at the conclusion, the participants from each time zone "event" can debrief back here, yeah that sounds like a bit of fun. Now of course something like this will and should take a bit of preparation prior to execution so I encourage all that are interested to speak up and have some input. This post has turned out far too long so ...
  5. We are all 1.12a and Hyperlobby compliant as well as TeamSpeak. Nice to know there are so many Aussies around, now lets try and see how many Aussies we can get online at the same time. The biggest server capacity we ahve between us is a couple with 1500/256, I can usually get 4 clients airborne @56k.
  6. Theres a couple more Aussies up here in Queensland; Jetwash (Noosa) and myself (Brisbane), our mates Crow (Adelaide); Mazza (Perth); Recker (Sydney). We are on most evenings if you are looking for some action.
  7. I came across this story http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilyushin_Il-2 adn was impressed and amused by the antics of this Soviet Hero, whom I guess the Carrier is named after. A brave and versatile pilot no doubt. He must have had the fly any plane mod enabled and was lucky to get home without someone Team Killing him.
  8. Life is NOT fair In the big bad real world, there would be a lot more Flankers going down in flames than the F15. I too prefer flying the Russian jets, and take it on the chin every time I get downed by an F15, but I sure savour every moment when I do get the better of an F15. When I do, I have beaten the odds and lived to tell the tale.

    F/A-18 Mod

Scott I cant remember which mod did it, but I suspect the FPS Tweak mod made some of the plane types flyable. Such as an FA18A model wrapped around a Su33. You can grab that Mod at LockOnFiles. Provided those you fly with online all have same mod, no problems. Most hyperlobby servers never allow you to fly a non standard plane anyway. If you are worried make a backup of your whole Lock On folder. Run one as a clean legitimate LockOn 1.12a and the other for hacked, modded, just for shits and giggles Lock On. Just rename the folder you wish to use to Lock On...you'll work it out. I would probably do a fresh install for that anyway No you cant , but you do get the Su33 pit, I am not sure if its the Su33FM, most probably. You can launch US weapons with RU avionics, even Mavericks, although they dont seem to lock so you have to "sniper" them English Just last night a few of us were hooning around in FA18s going AA and AG with Rockeyes and Mavericks, all US ordinance, and we only discovered the mavericck hack by accident, its not perfect, but useable with a steady hand. Its a little bit awkward and definitely unrealistic, but good fun all the same. You can launch the F18 off a Carrier, but without a tailhook its hard to stop on one. There is a tailhook mod for the Tomcat F14, which works fine and similar to all above, ie SU33 with a Tomcat model. Modman is your friend and very simple to apply and unapply Mods. Back up your LockOn folder and have a go, if you screw up just reinstate your backup. Cheers
  10. DrafTech, It is my experience that upon entering any jet already airborne or after turning off Autopilot, you need to reset trim Ctrl T (for every jet except Su25T). Failure to do this will have you fighting your jet for control. The other thing to do for the fast movers is go into Options/Input and select your Saitek from the Devices dropdown, select the axis toggle and then fine tune the axis response for Joystick X and Y. By default they are quite linear, ie a straight diagonal line. I have put a S curve in mine both X and Y to give me a relative flat spot in the central position, so that it requires more aggressive stick movement around the central zones and increases in intensity/reaction, the more I pull. What this means in flight is that your stick is nowhere near as reactive when you are looking to make fine tune adjustments to your pitch and roll and you should find that you are able to enjoy a more stable flight. Image How to Alter Pitch Axis Image How to Set Roll Axis Image How to Set Throttle Axis The last one for throttle is where I have tried to soften the input around the central zone as well as try and align the min and max with the Idle and AB detents on my Cougar. For myself and many mates, we have all experienced the dreaded porpoising and found this to be the easiest way to soften it. You should find close formation flying a lot easier now and of course once merged you still have all the maneuverability available with full stick deflection. And once you get used to this, prepare to trim your jet out frequently anyway as its a fact of life with these airframes, just remember your friend is Ctrl T when it all gets too much. I have only just started messing with the Su25T and its a whole different kettle of fish, the manual suggests going with a more linear curve, and after having tried it, I can understand why. Now my question is with the Su25T is if I have engaged one of the many different AP modes available here, is there a sure fire way to disengage all and reset trim? Half the time I am not sure whether I still ahve some form of AP engaged or not, its such a handful at the best of times, the last thing I need is some AP fighting my inputs.
  11. Graywolf It is possible...you need a utility called LOTU (LockOn Track Unlocker) which you can probably get at Lockonfiles. Its easy and does exactly what you are looking for.
  12. Anyone who has managed to get Lockon to a workable state on their computer is more than qualified to sort out whatever technical difficulties may present thmselves with setting up a mic and something like Teamspeak. Of all the hardware they have invested in to virtually fly, a humble microphone (wit headphones) is by far the cheapest and quietest. I remember flying flight sims offline before there was any such thing as Internet and before the flight sim even talked to me and at times I thought I must have been the only person in the world, who was into them. Now we are able to fly with people from anywhere in the world, and talk in real time, and for me that is the ultimate flight. I probably embarrass myself online everytime, I open my mouth online, but the great thing about the internet is that I am unlikely ever to meet any of you in person and so I don't worry about it. At all. As for language barriers, yeah that could be a problem, but what a great opportunity for you to practise your english, and maybe I could learn a little French, or Spanish or even Russian :D It has been my great pleasure in this community to chat and fly with a great many wonderful people, at least they came across that way online, and the immersion of real time comms with fellow (v) pilots has been a lot of fun, even with the language issues that we have contended with. To all I say, don't hold back, grab a mic, get TS sorted jump online and say G'day, or whatever it is you say in your language to meet and greet your fellow pilots. You wont regret it.
  13. Yes it was a nice try Arbritrator, but I cheated, I put lots of spaces, line breaks and punctuation in mine to pad it out. A bit like spamramming only for forums. ;) Great to see you're enjoying your online flying.
  14. Mate, it was aimed at you and anyone else who is yet to experience the hair-raising excitement of flying LOFC online. I hope to see you up there sometime.
  15. Dutch, Welcome and Congratulations, I could almost feel the excitement you must have experienced at achieving your AI kills in the F15. Your enthusiasm for this great simulation and willingness to express same and encourage and enlighten others is commendable. Nothing bad will ever come from the exuberance of a fellow virtual Lock On pilot sharing his enjoyment, and experience with others, be they newbies or veterans. Please continue to share with us your highs and your lows, of which there are bound to be as many. Like many others my first frustrating experiences were with the AI in offline play where I almost always flew the F15, as being an Aussie it was the closest thing to home and they spoke english in the pit and I figured it was the best out there. Having said that, most of my enjoyment since has been with the Russian birds. I figured it's a Russian sim, so maybe, just maybe the RU birds have the upper hand on the USA ones. What I did find though was, that for me anyway, the Su27/33 and Mig29 were a hell of a fun jet to fly and fight with, given the different weapons delivery methods. So I flew them offline in various little Missions and half started some campaigns, although quickly tired of them, and never finished any. What I craved for and still do, was to have a human wingman and better yet a human element, and to fly against other real people. I wanted to be able to communicate live, with the guy in the jet next to me, where covering your wingie really means something, and at the same time knowing that the opposing force were people who were hell bent on seeing me go down in flames. So I started flying online, my old Falcon buddies had long since shelved their copies of LOMAC, but for me Lock On and particularly Flaming Cliffs was, and still is as good as it gets in the Combat Flight Sim arena and online was where the "real" action was. Unlike most of the pilots I have encountered online, I am a poor combatant. I have just enough knowledge to take off land, navigate, and deploy my weapons. I can generally maintain formation with fellow online pilots, at least until the shit hits the fan, however I die fast and frequently. Perhaps not as fast or frequently after each session, because experience is slowly taking hold, and I am learning a thing or two each time. When I join a hyperlobby server, I always check the details for a TeamSpeak Server and log in to see how many of the participants are on comms. Sadly quite often there is nobody home, and so I go back to my own TS server. This for me is the most dissappointing aspect to online flying in that so few casual pilots bother to join the hosts TS server and "check in" with their fellow pilots. Oh the things that could be achieved with all pilots from both sides on comms, each flight in their own channel with broadcast comms to all flights. The exception here is the active sqdrns like 169th and 44th, both of whom have welcomed me and helped me tremendously in flight and fight. I have flown online sorties with both in coordinated attacks, which I mostly died in, but gave a little bit back to the enemy and the guys there bent over backwards to make me an effective member of their flight. I know that language may be a barrier for TS comms at times, but at the least you could link up with a fellow countryman in a sub channel where you could still monitor broadcasts in English, and besides, anyone who reads this forum and can post here in reasonable ENglish has all the qualifications necessary for participating in TeamSpeak whilst online. I know that in the popular Falcon 4 AF server, MultiViper, you get kicked off the server, if you are not in TS in the appropriate channel. Now I am sure thats unnecesary but it demonstrates the value they place in establishing effective comms. As to whether the F15C is "not all that bad" I took up the F15 the other night with Gideon and Dredd from the 169th and had a great time flying on thier wing, I got my ass shot off on numerous occassions, never managed to land once in at least 6 engagements, but did manage the odd kill. In my final engagement and frustrated at ploughing into the ground with most of my missiles still hanging on my wings I systematically launched my remaining amramms at spaced intervals heading for the merge, shamelessly spamraaming him, (if I recall he was an IA sqd member) and seconds before I exploded into yet another flaming wreck I had the pleasure of seeing a similar flaming wreck on my nose. Out of curiosity I checked thew last page of the debrief to see how it played out and counted 11 missiles launched from both our planes prior to our mutually assured destruction. So I didnt feel so bad, especially given that I had yet to use my heaters and he had thrown his at me as well as his radar. It is probably frowned upon by the more experienced but I cant see the point in taking all those missiles down with me, if it might help ensure my survival and guarantee the early demise of my foe. I can always beat a hasty retreat and rearm, which is a lot more enjoyable than having to respawn, again. No doubt with time and experience the number of missiles required to bring down the enemy will decrease as my skills improve. The point to this rather longwinded post is to encourage all that love to fly Lock On, is to spend your offline time getting acquainted with your favourite jet and its strengths and weaknesses, and then get online as fast and as often as possible. Get on TeamSpeak, introduce yourself, hook up with a flight, find out what is it you are supposed to be doing (read the briefing, coordinate your attacks, support your fellow team members as best as you can, learn and have fun. And just maybe, in between all those times you get your ass shot off from out of nowwhere, you might just get lucky and bag yourself a kill against one of the many veterans you encounter. When you do, and you will, savour the moment, give yourself a pat on the back, and get back up there again. :pilotfly: EDIT: Oh yeah , I nearly forgot...TURN THAT BLOODY JAMMER OFF!!
  16. Kindred I have the same issues as well on my 6600GT. I too tried some of the 8x.xx series drivers with some drastic consequences as far as FC was concerned. I ended up resorting to 77.77s and aside from the curtain issue, which i hardly notice anymore, all is good. I am wondering if the new 91.28 betas out today will be of any help to my card. Might have to check it out.
  17. Konkussion, Thanks for the suggestion but there are client planes in the various missions I tried. Hitman No its not a fresh install I have just reinstalled from 1.02 to 1.11 to 1.12a and it works Prognosis In an attempt to keep a valid 102 install by copying off the folder and renaming it to "Lock On102" (use Lock On Launcher for multiple install versions), I think that bloody Nortons Internet Security is getting confused as to what programs are allowed via the registry. I noticed that the lock on exe is typed different for each version during the install process, not sure if this makes a difference but it indicated to me which exe was getting the runtime error Lock On 102= LockOn.exe Lock On 1.1 = LOCKON.EXE Lock On 1.12a = lockon.exe My 1.12a was the one having problems, but the runtime error was reported for LOCKON.EXE, which is the exe for 1.1 So I ended up removing all other instances of the exe from Nortons and only added the latest 1.12a I will just have to remember to do same for 1.02 if I ever fly that with mates who are not FC compatible I may be barking up the wrong tree here but I think its all somehow related. Thanks for the help anyway
  18. I have an unususal problem with network play. I can join anyone elses server, but for some reason I can't get into a plane in my own server. Running 1.12a and start a network session as Server, select a multiplayer mission, join coalition, and when I click on Select (plane) the select button illuminates, but doesnt give me a list of planes. The Coalition screen will then not close inspite of me closing the network mission and if I fly a singleplayer mission the coalition window is in foreground, and eventally when exiting Lomac I am greeted with a C++ Runtime Error, C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Eagle Dynamics\Lock On\LOCKON.EXE R6025 -pure virtual function call This has happened before and I ended up reinstalling Lock On to 1.12a again and all was good for a while but then it happened again today. I have successfully hosted many network sessions, and joined as many again as a client, so am familiar with the proceedure. At first I thought it was my own firewall settings preventing me from joining my own game. So I shutdown Windos Firewall and Nortons Internet Security. No good, so I deleted any Lock On settings in Nortons and let Nortons ask permission next time I launched, still no good. Has anyone had a similar problem, or got any ideas, I can reinstall, but maybe its just something simple.
  19. Kuz Kapers In 1.02 spawning on the Kuz at the same time resulted in both planes experiencing a collision and both pilots having to eject in order to "recover". I have found this to be the case also in FC, except for the other night, when I knocked up a quick flight for 3 of us to muck around with Carrier landings and we happily spawned ontop of each other sometimes 3 deep and took off, in turns, to engage in some close quarter combat off the bow of the Carrier. It was quite bizarre as there were no problems spawning inside of each other and separation on laun ch was quite amuzing as you tried to get a guns kill before you were gear up. Subsequent attempts have seen planes and pilots colliding on deck. Oh well it was fun whilst it lasted.
  20. Thanks Dredd, now if thats the case, as simple as you state it, whats everyone worried about?
  21. Aah externals off, ...thats always got me too since joining online servers, like you first up I thought I had connection problems too, thats a real shame as I spend quite a bit of time in flaming jets and have developed a real appreciation for the fireball, its all a bit of an anticlimax really for the victim. I guess the only way to get a good view is to be the victor. Just re-read the last few pages again and realised I missed a few scenarios Scenario 4: Pilot A locks on to Pilot B Pilot B knowing his death is imminent and he does not have the resources to avoid it, takes the soft option and ejects safely Pilot B parachutes while his jet impacts with the ground OR pilots his jet directly into the ground Pilot A is NOT awarded one kill (in fact he never got a missile off) Pilot B is reported with one ejection/death, depending on which mode of departure he selected. I am not sure why this is a good idea for pilot B as he will have a ejection/death demerit recorded either way, he has simply robbed the pursuer Pilot A from a possible kill, unless exiting the server immediately afterwards negates this. The lengths that some people will go to for fame and fortune, well fame anyway.
  22. Sorry, I am still confused on this, let me try and summarise what I think is the case in 3 different scenarios. Scenario 1: Pilot A launches missile at Pilot B Pilot B is hit by that missile Pilot B rides flaming wreck to ground and perishes in flames Pilot A is awarded one kill Pilot B is reported with one death Scenario 2: Pilot A launches missile at Pilot B Pilot B is hit by that missile Pilot B ejects safely before his jet impacts into the ground Pilot A is awarded one kill Pilot B is reported with one ejection (but importantly no death is recorded on his Stats. Scenario 3: Pilot A launches missile at Pilot B Pilot B knowing his death is imminent and he does not have the resources to avoid it, takes the soft option and ejects safely Pilot B parachutes while his jet impacts with the ground. Pilot A is NOT awarded one kill Pilot B is reported with one ejection, albeit premature In Scenario 1 the Victor gets a Kill point and just as importantly the vanquished gets a death point. In Scenario 2 the Victor still gets a Kill point but is robbed off the opportunity to suppress the vanquished further by adding to his death count. In Scenario 3 its a total loss of possible points, missiles and time, for pilot A, all of which could have been better spent pursuing a more worthy opponent. If the above scenarios are correct in how the points are allocated, then in the interest of maintaining acccurate statistics on a leaderboard, notwithstanding that ejecting from a disabled jet would seem to be the logical thing to do, perhaps ejection under any circumstances should be frowned upon, if not outlawed, and harshly discriminated against with the possible banning either temporarily or permanently of any pilots seen participating in the non sportsmanlike act of premature ejection. Suck it up and take it like a real man...and dont forget to acknowledge with a quick little Ctrl + M "gk" upon impact. Please correct me if I am wrong.
  23. A deliberate double post on my part to draw your attention to a great Mod Live AWACS I would be interested to hear what the rest of you think about Live AWACS support on dedicated servers, even if only every now and then, and also whether you chose to join the servers TS or not, and if not why not. From my experience most of them have gone to the trouble to not only put up a LO Server but also a TS server as well. Sure beats the hell out of typing "RAYGUN" and "BUDDY SPIKE" in the middle of a furball. Last time I checked both were a free service so I know its not the cost. Oh and please have a look at the LOTATC thread linked above and let me know what you think of the possibilities there as well. Thanks, I'll just sit here quietly now and wait for some feedback.
