  1. This has nothing to do with tactics but I always aim for the 3rd vehicle in the column. I was an Infantry Scout in a Light Armored Reconnaissance company (LAV's) and our order of march was always 2,3,1,4. Vehicle 1 was the LT (Platoon Commander). So I always hit the 3rd vehicle in the column just in case it's the Platoon Commander. Obviously it doesn't matter, I just do it for fun. I'd imagine it would be situational. If they are squeezing through narrow streets or passages, Id say hit the lead vehicle to try and stop them. Even if they have to back up, that will take more time. If they are traveling on open hardball, I'd still say hit the lead to force them to go around off road. If they are traveling off road on an open field I'd probably hit the middle vehicle to try and split them and make them think of how to reorganize. However, these are just my opinions. I wasn't a pilot and I wasn't a vehicle crewman. I honestly don't know what the SOP for vehicles under aircraft fire is as my SOP memory capacity was filled with MOUT crap. Although one of our platoons was strafed by a cobra and the SOP seemed to be keeping the LT (our XO at the time) from knocking out the pilot. I wasn't present for that incident and none of the vehicles were damaged, but it was well know in our FOB even by the higher brass, so I'm inclined to believe it.
  2. I agree. I have a year left on my Student version of 3d Studio Max. I wouldn't mind making DCS mods with MAX, as it's all I know, but there is no way I'll be buying it when the student version runs out. I don't even know what the rules are using the student version to make mods, even if they are free.
  3. Ha. I did the same thing. We were issued the green nomex flight gloves and flight suits. It was at the time when the Marine Corps was switching to the MARPAT Cammies and they were melting when on fire. When we deployed we would wear flight suits. I had an extra pair of gloves I never used that I fly with now (my other pair is pretty beat up). I feel kinda silly wearing them but if I don't the stick gets sweaty. I don't remember that being a problem on my X-52, or maybe I just didn't care because it wasn't a $500 piece of hardware.
  4. Edit: Never mind, Found it in another post.
  5. I think a better analogy would be: Selling tickets for steam powered trains along side high-speed rail both going to Boston. I think alot of people don't understand why you would want to travel on the steam power in the modern world. I think it just caught alot of people off guard because of the modern setting DCS resides. When you are tasked with destroying a column of tanks, you're probably gonna want to use the Hog over the Mustang. Just as if you needed to be in Boston as soon as possible, you're going to choose the high-speed rail trains even if you fancy the steam powered nostalgia. There's nothing wrong with having a new plane to fly in DCS. For those that are interested in the aircraft, DCS offers more than enough flexibility to create an enjoyable flying environment for it. I just want to note. I'm not a big fan of WW2 era aircraft. I'll purchase the P-51 to support ED but I don't imagine spending much time in it. However, I'll keep an open mind and rest assured (because we have been specifically told from the horses mouth) that ED has not slowed in development of the next modern aircraft. And who knows, ED's rendition of the P-51 may change my interest in WW2 aircraft. The only experience I have with them is IL2 :) .
  6. I agree. I think it's because the SIM community has more knowledge on the subject and cares more about the outcome than beta testers of mainstream games these days. Betas these days seem little more than demos. I was involved with betas as far back as the late 90's (that's far back in game evolution time anyway). Most of them had required feedback sessions. The problem today lies equally with the testers and developers. People try to get into betas just to play it early or see if they like it before buying and the developers facilitate this. Most testers offer no feedback and those who try are left with empty responses from devs. SWTOR was a great example of this. Bugs and issues with that game were brought up 6 months before release and were still present on launch day. Anyway, The Warthog in my opinion was the definition of a beta on both sides. Great feedback and reporting from the testers and superb communication from the developers. It was exactly what betas were designed to be. I think in this community, they would benefit again for an open beta.
  7. I believe you need a friendly unit at the airfield for ground crew to work but I could be wrong.
  8. Wow, I had no idea you could do that. Thank you very much for the info.
  9. I don't know if this is the right place to ask this, but I figured with all the knowledgeable people on this board someone will know. What are the squiggly moving lines on the HUD in this video at 07:00? It comes on periodically during the dogfight. I remember the A-10 in LOMAC had it when you switched to Air to Air. As far as I know it isn't in the A-10C that I have seen. I have the Superbug for FSX and haven't noticed it either. Anyway, if anyone could let me know what it's for I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance. Link (Sorry, forgot to add it): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MzR9av3VUNA&feature=related
  10. Like Sugar Cookie? Or Range 400. Those are two place I wouldn't mind putting a few GBU-10's on.
  11. I've been playing on and off since beta and am finally to a point where I feel comfortable enough with the aircraft to play organized multiplayer. I've played on a few of the open servers but it seems every time there are just 5-10 Hogs in air engaging random targets. It's frustrating to set up a shot and see your target hit with a random Mav. I've joined the servers teamspeak but there is either nobody on or nobody is talking. Multiplayer in this game with no comms is little more than single player. Enough of that. I'd just like to find a few people to fly with using comms and organization. I can fly most nights on the weekday and weekend, just depends on my schedule. If anyone is interested, send me a PM. Thanks.
  12. I'm looking for someone to fly with. I'm experienced enough to be dangerous but still need work with the finer details. I'm pretty flexible with times I can fly for a few months. Skype is Underleft.
  13. I've been that "Scared sh*%less" guy on the ground. I was our company FO for a short while. Sadley, I never got to call any fixed-wing missions but I did call a few mortar. I have been on the ground when fixed-wing was called in though. Like a gift from heaven! Thanks for the video.
  14. Thats the kind of thing that made me change my major emphesis to Network Security.
