    MiG-29A Fulcrum

    Announcement

    Hero1.png

Our MiG-29A, NATO codename Fulcrum, will be the export modification of the “A” version that was supplied to Warsaw Pact countries. The MiG-29A was designed to counter all types of aerial targets with radar- and infrared-guided R-27, R-73, and R-60 air-to-air missiles and its single-barreled 30mm cannon with 150 rounds of ammunition. The MiG-29A also has limited visual ground attack capability with 50 to 500 kg bombs, cluster bombs, and unguided S-5, S-8 and S-24 rockets.

The MiG-29A can operate day or night and in all weather conditions. Its radar is capable of look-down / shoot-down in a heavy electronic countermeasure environment. The weapons control system consists of two complexes: the Fire Control Radar (FCR) and the Optical-Electronic Targeting Navigation System (OETNS). The OETNS includes an optical-electronic sighting system (OESS), a navigation system, a weapon control system, a unified display system, and multifunctional control panels. The OEPS includes an optical location station OLS that consists of an Infrared Search and Track System (IRST), a Laser Range Finder (LRF), and a Helmet-Mounted Sight (HMS) designation system.

The MiG-29 is equipped with the SPO-15 “Beryoza” Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) defence system that is designed to warn of radar-directed weapon attacks. To protect against infrared-guided weapons, the MiG-29A features flare dispensers.

The navigation system consists of on-board navigation equipment, a vertical and heading information complex, and an airborne signal system as part of the Optical-Electronic Targeting Navigation System (OETNS).

    Afghanistan

    Development Report

    Hero3.png

The development of the DCS: Afghanistan Map is progressing on schedule with significant milestones achieved. We are committed to delivering a highly immersive and authentic representation of Afghanistan for virtual pilots to explore and engage in combat operations. Continued collaboration, testing, and refinement will ensure the map’s successful completion and release to our DCS community.

    Development Progress

We have made substantial progress in recreating the diverse landscape of Afghanistan. This includes the rugged mountain ranges of the Hindu Kush, the vast deserts of the Dasht-e Kavir and Dasht-e Lut, and the fertile valleys and river basins. Efforts have been dedicated to accurately portraying the unique cultural and urban features of Afghanistan. This involves recreating cities like Kandahar and Herat, with special attention to landmarks, infrastructure, and architectural styles like the blue mosque of Herat. Aerial imagery has been utilised to enhance the realism and accuracy of the map. High-resolution satellite imagery is being integrated to provide authentic terrain textures and details.

The diverse terrain and complex topography of Afghanistan has presented technical challenges due to the large mountainous ranges. Optimization efforts are ongoing to maintain performance without compromising on visual fidelity, particularly in densely populated urban areas and detailed terrain features. The map is designed to look equally as good from low to high altitude.

    Hero4.png

    Future Plans

In the above screenshot, you can see the area of DCS: Afghanistan that will be available in Early Access. The airfields that will be available at launch include Kandahar, Herat, Bost, Camp Bastion, Chaghcharan, Dwyer, Farah, Maymana Zahiraddin Faryabi, Qala i Naw, Shindand, Tirinkot, and Zaranj. The focus will be on completing the detailing of terrain features, including rivers, roads, vegetation, rocks, small stones, ground clutter and geological formations to enhance immersion and realism. Extensive testing and optimization will be conducted to ensure optimal performance and compatibility with a wide range of hardware configurations. Please stay tuned for the pre-order coming soon!

    La-7

    Development Report

    Hero2.png

The La-7 by OctopusG is making great progress. The development of the La-7 flight model is now complete, and the assembly and preparation of the necessary documentation for certification is in progress. Unique features have been implemented like the decrease in lifting force when the side cowl flaps are fully opened due to the deterioration of the aerodynamics of the wing root.

    Hero3.png

The above graph demonstrates expected and actual La-7 performance in DCS. From this and other reports, OctopusG will be providing an excellent simulation of the flight performance and characteristics of this famous warbird.

An armament system has been completed and includes a bomb-aiming control system.

    Syria Map

    Recent Updates

    Hero1.png

In case you missed it, Ugra Media's most recent updates to the DCS: Syria Map delivered optimized scenes and models by reducing the number of bushes, and textures while simplifying damages and car models. Ground textures saw a boost in frame rate performance due to updates to the ground vector data renderer.

Detailed enhancements cover the territories of southern Israel and Jordan, featuring additions like Amman, King Abdullah II, Prince Hassan, Muwaffaq Salti, and Herzliya airfields. Technical fixes addressed relays and ILS in Ramat David airfield, and errors in objects were also fixed. The adjustments to the sea depth near the shore and a tower frequency change at Wujah Al Hajar airfield improve realism, while Ein Shemer airfield benefits from a runway extension, and added parking lots at Ein Shemer, Megiddo, and Ramat David airfields.

    Weapons

    Development Progress

    Hero2.png

We are pleased to share our progress on improving the functionality of the Mission Editor Payload settings window and the in-mission Rearm and Refueling pop-up. These interfaces will allow you much finer control of fuze settings, laser-codes, cluster bomb settings, unique 3D fuze models, and more. These panels will allow you to take “weaponeering” to the next level in DCS.

More specifically, we have focused on implementing bomb features that are relevant for modern munitions that include both general purpose bombs, sub-munitions, and guided munitions. This specifically includes setting the laser code (PRF) for laser-guided munitions like Paveway II and III, target spin rate at bomblet release for CBU-type munitions, airburst heights for munitions with radio-altimeters, and even adjusting seeker and control system parameters for weapons that have this capability.

Based on the nose fuze selection, the 3D models are now adjusted accordingly and even include sub-variants for nose plugs. We are also including bomb casings differences between USAF and US Navy weapons.

    F/A-18C

    Update

    Hero2.png

The F/A-18C has been one of our most popular DCS aircraft as it provides a wealth of game play options and is nearly feature-complete. There are though a number of items that we continue to address that will further improve  the realism and attention to detail of this DCS flagship aircraft.

    Flight Model

For the past several months, we’ve been improving the flight dynamics of the F/A-18C to represent this aircraft’s unique flight qualities even more accurately. Much of this has been focused on expanding the F/A-18C’s high Angle of Attack (AoA) capabilities by adjusting the stabilizer scheduling. These changes will allow maneuvering up to 50 to 55 AoA, compared to mid-30s earlier. This expanded AoA capability will better allow players to take advantage of the F/A-18Cs outstanding low-speed, high-AoA maneuver capability. Note that this expanded AoA capability can result in a dramatic loss of airspeed, if not careful.

Another important improvement is the handling characteristics in Powered Approach (PA) mode when landing. During landing, you will find achieving and maintaining on-speed AoA easier. This is tied to the flight control system changes.

Nose pitch effects have also been added when the speedbrake is extended and retracted to match the real F/A-18C. Overall aerodynamic damping has also been improved to better match F/A-18C handling characteristics.

    Flight Control System

The Flight Control System (FCS) has been completely reworked in all channels, and it provides much improved behavior when switching the control logic system between AUTO flaps mode to HALF\FULL flaps. You will find the transition much smoother with little to no un-commanded pitching moments. This will also make getting on-speed during landings much easier.

Roll characteristics have also been improved to better match the real aircraft with greater stability in the roll and yaw channels. This also applies to improved behavior around the longitudinal axis when taking off.

The yaw channel FCS in PA mode has also been adjusted to improve landing control in a crosswind. In total, the improvements in the FCS will make takeoff and landings much easier.

    Landing Gear

The landing gear shock absorbers were adjusted to match documentation and reference videos. The F/A-18C landing gear articulation is a complex and dynamic process that is accurately modeled for carrier recoveries and touch-and-go. This change also provides improved landing control in a crosswind and addresses excessive G loads when landing. Whilst greatly improved, we will continue to tune this mechanic to allow even more accurate nosewheel touch-and-go behavior to allow lower airspeed rotation.

In addition to the landing gear mechanisms, the tires have also been adjusted to provide more authentic friction forces that will be apparent in crosswind takeoff and landings.

    Engine

Engine transition thrust time was adjusted to be more accurate between afterburner and MIL thrust modes. The engine transition time is now faster from afterburner to idle. This allows you to reduce airspeed when cutting the engines to idle more quickly.

    Autopilot

F/A-18C autopilot operation has been improved by tuning its behavior when initiating an altitude hold mode whilst the aircraft is unbalanced. The updated autopilot also improves holding the set altitude when in a roll and initiating an altitude hold mode. Before, you would often lose or gain hundreds of feet. Last, the autopilot control is much smoother when transitioning through waypoints in coupled mode.

    Automatic Carrier Landing System

When activating the Automatic Carrier Landing System (ACLS) in coupled mode, the autopilot will use smoother and improved approach behavior.

Get the DCS: F/A-18C at 30% off now during the 2024 Lunar Sale that has been extended to February 25th, 2024.

    OH-58D Kiowa

    Отчет от Polychop

    OPxa9osAFK0qPRk2u_6B70pQz09A4Ncg4-1HZfAK

    Eagle Dynamics

    Bo-105

    Miltech-5

    Hero1.png

Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, :pilotfly:

Our third party partner Miltech-5 are pleased to share a progress report on their DCS: Bo-105. This module promises to bring you a truly authentic light utility and reconnaissance helicopter experience. Please stay tuned for more details, and take a look at the Development Screenshots below.

Since the inception of the DCS: South Atlantic map, RAZBAM have strived to innovate within ever-evolving technologies.  From the majestic mountain peaks to the rolling landscape of the Tierra del Fuego, their new custom surface mesh, which lends detail where required, makes the entire landscape feel more alive and better suited to the local topography.

Digital Controllers is a community dedicated to establishing detailed and international standards for Air Traffic Control and Tactical Control in all their varieties. Through partnerships with various DCS servers such as Flashpoint Levant and Hoggit, they provide layered ATC and Tactical Control to dozens of pilots on a regular basis, while running a comprehensive training course and dedicated mentoring. Bo-105

    Miltech-5

    Hero1.png

The above screenshot shows the current state of the Bo-105, which will be available in three versions: the German Bo 105 PAH 1A1/VBH, the Swedish Hkp9A, and the South Korean Bo-105 as AI only.

Aside from the liveries, all three versions will have different internal devices and are offered as separate versions. The external and internal 3D models of all Bo-105 versions will have a high level of detail that is close to photo realistic. All movable parts of the helicopter have been modelled, from rotor blade articulation to circuit breakers.

Initial tests have shown the great potential of their new development strategy for internal machine logic. It fits well into the existing DCS API and environment. The program logic changed from event control to situation control. This means that all devices have their own program and are interconnected within a global system. The advantage is that specific control situations do not require special coding. The result is an auto-generated output that is dependent on all the connected devices. An example of this is autorotation. The handling is initiated by the corresponding pilot inputs. The rotor system, as an independent device, reacts like a real Bo-105. Even non programmatically planned situations are handled realistically. This system is termed MEDUSA by Miltech-5. It is a multithreaded system that can handle all devices in different threads.

The external and cockpit models, electric system, engines, fuel supply, and rotor system are in advanced development states. The next steps are focused on flight performance, handling, and fine tuning the Bo-105’s behaviours.

    Unified Release

    A new era begins

    Hero1.png

For the past several years, we have released DCS in two forms: the Open Beta, which includes the most recent changes to allow broad testing and the Stable version which is based on the most recent Open Beta and has no known crashes, thus the term Stable. In 2024, we will be moving to unified DCS updates.

This change has been a common customer request and will streamline our release process. We believe that it will also help avoid version confusion for both single-player missions and multiplayer servers. Starting with our first update of the year in February, we will also be making the same changes to the DCS Steam Edition. Please stay tuned for more details.

    AviaStorm’s Tornado

    Development Progress

    Hero2.png

Five 3D artists are currently working on the project, which involves significant personnel commitment. This investment will result in a module that meets your expectations.

AviaStorm has had the opportunity to examine many small details of this aircraft for the level of detail that DCS demands. Such details may not initially stand out, or even be noticed by most customers, but they are crucial in the context of creating a masterpiece that is the Tornado. An example includes the emergency RAM air flap and two cooling flaps.

“We are dedicated to achieving the level of quality we and Eagle Dynamics aspire to and what is expected from DCS customers.”

    – AviaStorm

Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, :pilotfly:

This week, we are excited to share with you Grinnelli Designs’ update for the DCS: F-100D Super Sabre. Please read the details below and check out the video here: F-100D Dev Log: The Road to Realism.

In the most recent DCS Open Beta update, you may have noticed some improvements to procedural grass diversity and shading across terrains such as DCS: The Channel and DCS: Syria. We are continuing to enhance the grass distribution across terrain tiles, and grass blades now bend to achieve a more natural look. This technology will be available in our Terrain Development Kit (TDK) offering our official third party maps the opportunity to enhance low level realism for their terrain maps too.

If you are looking for a server to test your skills, then the Grayflag Death From Above PvE server is excellent! Brought to you by Graywo1f and Grimes, this persistent and busy server boasts the ability to save unit positions during server restarts. Join the Grayflag discord now.

Thank you for your passion and support.

    Yours sincerely,

    Eagle Dynamics

    F-100D Super Sabre

    Development Report

    Hero1.png

“Our dedicated team completed an extensive journey across Texas, Georgia, Ohio, and Indiana, meticulously scanning F-100 aircraft to guarantee the utmost quality and precision. With the infusion of these invaluable resources, our team is channelling creativity and expertise to bring the Super Sabre to life, ensuring every detail captures and preserves the essence of this iconic aircraft.”

    – Grinnelli Designs

An exceptional experience took place in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where an immersive week unfolded due to a fuel valve failure with the last flying F-100. This unforeseen event offered a unique opportunity to engage in detailed aircraft maintenance, capturing essential sounds and aerial footage. These experiences, complemented by insights from veterans, will play a crucial role in shaping this highly realistic module.

The project is progressing steadily, focusing on the development of a comprehensive and accurate flight model for the Super Sabre. Through a combination of computational methods, real aerodynamic data, and wind tunnel tests, the team is meticulously refining the model to accurately replicate the intricate dynamics of the actual aircraft. This effort stands as a testament to the team's commitment to delivering a high-quality, authentic experience in the world of DCS. Please make sure you watch the F-100D Dev Log: The Road to Realism.

    Vegetation

    Development Progress

    Hero2.png

In the above screenshot, you can see the results of improved procedural grass distribution across terrain tiles. Compared to other types of vegetation, such as shrubs or trees, grass has a more regular standard geometric structure; however, this benefit is outweighed by the huge quantity of distinct and subtle flora that may be found on even fairly small pieces of terrain.

In order to provide interactivity and stable frame rates on any but the smallest maps, the brute-force method of covering the entire landscape with individual grass blade models was impractical. Therefore, we continue to work on a more efficient approach to grass distribution, and we enhanced grass shading by using ambient occlusion. We also improved vegetation shading with the release of Screen Space Shadows (SSS). Furthermore we are working on new vegetation visual effects from explosions, gun fire, and aircraft.

    Grayflag

    PvE Server

    Hero3.png

Welcome to Grayflag Death From Above, a hardcore persistent multiplayer PvE multiplayer server. We encourage you to team up and liberate territories on one of four servers and conduct strikes on enemy SAMs, factories, bases, runways, and more! Be careful, some members can occasionally fight as REDFOR to keep you on your toes.

This server harbours enemy forces who will attempt to resupply and reinforce their positions and even launch counter offensives as you and your team attempt to push the front line and liberate areas. Your task is to set up ground units to liberate and capture objectives or defend with ground forces. Please note, the position of units will be saved when the server restarts and you will log straight back into this persistent battlefield. This server also features the Combined Arms module. 2024 & Beyond Roadmap

    Our Current Plan
    Hero2.png

Let’s take a brief look at the new aircraft under development in 2024, in no particular order. Detailed specifications and features will be listed for each product during each product announcement as we get closer to the release.

    New Eagle Dynamics Aircraft

    DCS: CH-47F

Much of the 2023 CH-47F work focused on the creation of the external model, cockpit/cargo models as well as systems and FM. The model now accurately reflects a US Army CH-47 from the mid-2000s. Much of the work now involves the finalisation of the flight dynamics and flight control system, along with the many multi-function display pages and sub-pages. As with all DCS aircraft since the Ka-50, the CH-47 will have fully modelled electrical, hydraulic, fuel, and other systems that exist within the simulation as “live” systems to manage voltage, pressure, flow rates, temperatures and all other operational systems. To support advancements in the DCS logistical system, the CH-47F will also be equipped with cargo and sling management capabilities as well as defensive gun positions.

    DCS: F6F Hellcat

Also started in 2023, the Hellcat has made great progress. When creating the external model, internal structural modelling was created to provide a very accurate and realistic structure in order to enhance damage modelling. The flight model development is in full swing, and it is being created to match first-hand knowledge of its handling and performance in cooperation with The Fighter Collection.

The Hellcat will not exist in a vacuum though, and Pacific Theater of Operations (PTO) opponent aircraft are already in development, as well PTO specific ground and naval forces.

    DCS: MiG-29A Fulcrum

We are excited to announce our first full fidelity 4th generation Russian fighter: the MiG-29A Fulcrum! The Fulcrum has been a massively successful, single-seat fighter that was developed to counter the F-15, F/A-18, and F-16 during the height of the Cold War. Today, it serves numerous armed forces, and will fill an important role in DCS.

Based on publicly available manuals, the DCS Fulcrum will be a 1980s era MiG-29, but it will still be a potent threat to other DCS aircraft with its array of radar- and infrared-guided missiles, its 30mm cannon, and unguided air-to-ground weapons. In the right hands, the MiG-29 can be a tough opponent with its Helmet Mounted Sight paired with high-off boresight R-73 air-to-air missiles.

    New Eagle Dynamics Maps

2024 will also be a great year for new maps. Our Terrain Development Kit (TDK) continues to grow in capabilities each year, and these new maps will leverage these features to create the best maps yet.

    DCS: Afghanistan

First hinted at a year ago, we are happy to confirm that an Afghanistan map is coming to DCS. A flash point spanning thousands of years, Afghanistan served as the backdrop to two of the largest conflicts in living memory. More focused on Counterinsurgency (COIN) warfare than large force-on-force battles, the Afghanistan map will bring a new mode of warfare to DCS battles and our most popular aircraft like the AH-64D, Mi-24P, A-10C, Su-25, F-16C, F/A-18C, will be great mission choices.

    DCS: Iraq

We are also excited to announce an Iraq map coming to DCS. From Operation Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom to the War on Terror, Iraq has been one of the most significant flash points of the late-20th and early 21st centuries. The Iraq map will initially be centred on Baghdad to best provide War-on-Terror and War on Isis scenarios. Later, the map will be expanded south to provide older scenarios like Operations Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom.

    DCS: Marianas World War II

To support the DCS: F6F Hellcat and other PTO aircraft and units coming to DCS, we have been adapting the current Marianas for the past year and into 2024. The map is based on painstakingly researched documents, photos, and accounts of the Mariana Islands in the summer of 1944, at the time of the Battle of the Marianas between the United States and Imperial Japan. This will be a free map that leverages our latest TDK for improved performance and realism.

In parallel with these new product efforts, we will be focusing on continued development of existing modules such as, but not limited to, the F-16C, F/A-18C, AH-64D, and Supercarrier.

    Dynamic Campaign

    Development Report

    In Dev2.jpg

DCS Dynamic Campaign (DCSDC) is one of the most important tasks for the future of DCS as it will add a new and much-demanded evolution/improvement of gameplay for both single player and multiplayer. Rather than mimic past solutions, we hope to set a new standard, one that provides a high level of interaction, authenticity, immersion, and ease-of-use. Our goal is to deliver a system that allows players to create their own dynamic (non-scripted) campaigns that will evolve based on strategic and tactical AI decisions, indirect player influences on AI actions, and direct player influences on the battlefield. This will all leverage existing DCS features such as Voice Chat, new ATC mechanisms, etc. This has been a tall order, and the effort has been underway since 2018 with a small but dedicated team.

Our focus in 2022 was on the creation and testing of General Air Operations tasks. In 2023, we shifted our DCSDC efforts to Ground Operations. This area will break new ground for dynamic campaigns and includes the following tasks:

    • The creation of a realistic road network system that is based on a new road editor system. This allows units to have appropriate road movement conditions that are tied to the logistics and supply network. This also integrates into the movement of ground unit formations.
    • A new ground unit formations editor was created that allows for the accurate assembly of units-based levels of command from platoon up to division, with all command levels in-between. Command structures vary based on the country and era, just like the real world and with correct terminology. Unit formations then operate realistically within their larger force structure based on tasking such as road march, meeting engagement, assault, defense, retreat, route, etc.
    • We addressed ground forces behavior once engaged. This was one of the biggest, most complex tasks. Much of this was dependent upon force tasking, support from neighboring forces, organization of frontline forces, logistics (munitions and fuel), and disposition of enemy forces.

To assist with these items, a new and improved path-finding mechanism was developed that considers both the terrain topography and restrictive zones within it. This allows more sensible routing of formations based on the terrain properties.

In addition to Ground Operations tasks, we continue to work on Air Operations related tasks. For instance, many airfields currently have too few parking spaces available for a large DC. We don’t want to be limited to such limited numbers for large scenarios. To address this, we have developed a new process to expand spawn points for aircraft.

Next, we will finalize ground tasking, increase the level of internal and external testing, and begin work on the important Graphic User Interface (GUI).

    Ground AI

    Development Progress

    In Dev2.png

2023 saw several improvements to AI ground units in both game performance and behavior. To enhance game performance, AI anti-aircraft artillery (AAA) calculations were optimized and large missions with many ground units now take advantage of the performance gains afforded by multi-threading. Multiplayer was also improved with the synchronization of artillery impact points. Route following of both ground and naval units is important and further improvements will be delivered in early 2024.

Ground units saw some welcome additions such as the ability to load and unload infantry units, the ability for the AI to select between ammunition types more wisely, new reloading sounds, and new voice over audio for player-controlled ground units using Combined Arms.

Radar-directed air defense gun systems got improved target trajectory prediction modeling and the new C-RAM and SA-10 SAM now default to RED alert status with no assigned route.

These efforts will continue in 2024 with more natural and randomized spacing of units in a column, improved ground unit suspension modeling over rough terrain, improved counter-battery tactics for indirect fire systems, new and improved air defense unit responses to anti-radiation missile attack, and more realistic damage modeling and visual effects to ships.

    DCS in 2023

    2023 in Retrospect

    In-Dev3.png

2023 was a big year for both Eagle Dynamics SA and our 3rd party partners. Much of our work focused on improving the DCS core with important enhancements and bug fixes. Some of the more notable core improvements included:

    • Multithreading. This has allowed DCS to better utilize multiple CPU cores to provide much improved performance for most players. Players can now crank up their graphic details and/or achieve higher frame rates in 2D and VR.
    • DLSS and FSR. Deep Learning Super Sampling and FX Super Resolution (FSR) were also added in 2023 to further improve game performance. Combined with multithreading, 2023 has seen the most significant performance increase in DCS history.
    • Enhanced Voice Chat. Voice Chat received substantial improvements in 2023 with the addition of a better interface, enhanced stability, and communication options.
    • Improved procedural grass distribution tech was implemented to look more natural adding better shading with ambient occlusion and more realistic traction to wind and rotor blast.

Other important DCS core improvements included a new datalink architecture systems across several aircraft platforms, enhancements to weapon modeling, new visual target sighting options, improved Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) modeling, the addition of new weapon types, updated air-to-air radar modeling, new and improved models for several AI-only units, multiplayer performance and stability improvements, new liveries, multicrew improvements, many new and free missions, several new pilot models, and enhancements to the Mission Editor, to name just a few.

In addition to these DCS core improvements, 2023 saw the release of many exciting DCS modules and campaigns that included the F-15E from RAZBAM, the Mirage F1 EE and BE from Aerges, the Normandy 2 map from Ugra Media, the Sinai map from OneReTech, and many fantastic campaigns.

2023 also saw continued development and improvements across numerous aircraft, maps, assets, and campaigns.

In the spirit of the season, we wish you a Merry Christmas filled with joy, warmth, and memorable moments. Thank you for being a part of our family. DCS is a community-driven project, and your passion fuels our dedication to delivering a world-class simulation. As we navigate towards the skies of 2024, exciting developments lie ahead.

Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends,:pilotfly:

We have been working on an important DCS Open Beta update to close out 2023. This version includes great features such as the Fire Control Radar for the DCS: AH-64D, multiple improvements to the F-16C Viper and many refinements based on your valuable feedback.

We're very excited to release the first iteration of the AH-64D Fire Control Radar, FCR. We have been hard at work developing this critical component that adds tremendous capability to this already deadly attack helicopter.

Step into the shoes of a World War II Mustang pilot as you embark on a series of challenging missions in the DCS: P-51D Debden Eagles Campaign by Reflected Simulations. It is meticulously crafted and allows you to relive the daring exploits during a pivotal moment in aerial combat history. Available in the next DCS Open Beta!

    Open Beta

    Development Progress

    Hero1.png

In addition to the AH-64D FCR and important F-16C improvements, the next DCS Open Beta update also includes memory leak fixes when changing slots in 2.9 multiplayer. The update covers more enhancements for dedicated servers, Voice Chat, and AGM-154 tuning.

    AH-64D Update

    Fire Control Radar

    Hero2.png

The AN/APG-78 FCR was designed to enhance the target acquisition and engagement process of the AH-64D when faced with large numbers of enemy armor units moving across the battlefield. More than just a sensor for detecting and engaging targets, the FCR is a target classification and prioritization system that automates and accelerates the process of acquiring targets and determining which of those targets should be engaged to have the maximum effect on the battlefield with the limited number of munitions on board the aircraft. The FCR is housed in a dome located above the main rotor mast. The APG-78 is capable of simultaneously tracking up to 128 targets and engaging up to 16 at once, and an attack can be initiated within 30 seconds. The datalink allows FCR data to be shared with other Deltas and allows them to coordinate attacks using fire zones.

The FCR can target static targets out to 6 km and moving targets out to 8 km and be able to ripple fire AGM-114L radar-guided Hellfire missiles from behind cover. Combined with the creation and datalink sharing of Priority Fire Zones (PFZ), the FCR combined with the radar-guided Hellfires can engage a specified area and engage targets according to threat priority. FCR Introduction video.

We will soon be releasing the FCR with Ground Target Mode (GTM) that will allow it to engage static and moving targets, including helicopters. Following the release of GTM mode, other modes and capabilities will be added to this powerful force multiplier. Priority Fire Zones video. Please also check out the FCR Pages and Controls video and how engage with the FCR and radar-guided Hellfire from only the backseat.

    Mosquito FB VI

    Improvements

    Hero1.png
We have developed new multi-component physics for the landing gear of DCS: Mosquito FB VI. This system simulates tire and shock absorber dynamics separately, which provides a new and more realistic feeling of how the aircraft should behave while in motion on the ground, especially on rough terrain.

    mosquito_gear.gif
The new system has been added to the Mosquito as an initial proof of concept in particular due to its large low pressure tires and short shock absorber movement range, making it an excellent technology demonstrator. After the upcoming release we will continue integrating the new landing gear physics into other aircraft, both WWII and modern.

Please check out the new landing gear on the Mosquito in the next Open Beta update and write your comments on our forum here: https://forum.dcs.world/forum/783-dcs-mosquito-fb-vi/

    Supercarrier

    Development Report

    Hero2.png

One of the most anticipated features is the Airboss (PRIFLY deck) functionality, which will add a new layer of realism and functionality to carrier operations.

The Airboss will offer a superb view of the entire flight deck and provide important information such as weather, carrier speed and heading, and more. It will also give direct control of the carrier’s heading and speed for players to manoeuvre the ship, turn the carrier into the wind for launch and set up recovery operations. An ATC display provides an indication of air traffic around the carrier with integrated radios and Voice Chat interoperability. Arrayed around the PRIFLY deck are a number of video displays such as the landing PLAT camera with further functionality planned such as carrier light management and elevator controls.

    Hero3.png

We are also making good progress with the finalization of the Briefing Room. This will provide a centralized hub for mission planning and coordination. It will feature a fully 3D briefing room that can be customized per squadron. Each pilot will have a multi-function tablet capable of equipping their aircraft and planning their mission route. The goal of the Briefing Room is to allow both single player and multiplayer pilots to have an immersive and realistic mission preparation phase that places them into the action, even before entering the cockpit. Stay tuned for further updates as we continue to refine these long awaited additions to the Supercarrier module.

    Kh-29

    Advanced Weapons Dynamics

    In Dev2.png

Following a review of weapon development processes and available materials, we have developed improved and more accurate  modelling of the Kh-29 air-to-surface, guided missile. In particular, the aerodynamic characteristics have been refined. The seeker model has also been reworked to more accurately reflect the restrictions on target acquisition based on target range, maximum gimbal angles, and angular target velocity. A realistic model of the guidance and stabilisation system has been introduced that also accounts for the modelling of actuators, animation of fins, and seeker movements.

Guidance is a sequential combination of three different methods that increase the target Probability of Kill (Pk).

    1. At the initial phase, homing is provided with a constant bearing angle, about plus 6 degrees, to increase the approach angle to the target. This is clearly noticeable when launching from low altitudes, less than 500 metres, where the missile will perform a lofting trajectory.
    2. When the required angle of the line of sight inclination to the horizon in the vertical plane is reached (23 degrees max), it switches to an intermediate mode with a constant G.
    3. Once the angle between the missile axis and the target direction becomes less than 8-degrees, a transition to proportional navigation guidance occurs. This is the terminal guidance phase.

In the next update, similar improvements will be brought to the Kh-25 (Х-25) family of missiles.

In the included screenshot, you can see the first phase of guidance in which the missile lofts whilst the missile seeker is pointed down toward the target.

We have recently been developing infrared (IR) textures for ships, deck personnel, and more ground units. This required gathering and analysing various references. As a result, we created IR textures for units that correspond to engine locations, exhaust systems, electronic devices, and weapons. They will have the ability to noticeably heat up and cool down based on operation. Authentic IR maps have also been developed for the DCS: Supercarrier deck crew, where the thickness of clothing, equipment, masks, and human body heat are considered. Please stay tuned for more news on this subject soon.

    Tempest’s Blue Flash

    Multiplayer Server

    Hero3.png

The sister server of Enigma's Cold War is back with version 3! This evolution focuses on a curated, hand-crafted multimap/multi-mission campaign that begins in the Persian Gulf with a battle for Dubai. Territorial control will initially stretch across the Syria and Sinai maps as sides advance through tailor-made objectives.

The Tempest server has created a detailed Blue Flash V3 presentation. The community is mostly Discord-based where you can ask questions, provide feedback, and make suggestions. Because this is an open beta test of the new server campaign, please feel free to post in the Tempest’s Discord channels if you come across any issues. Good hunting!

    Targeting Spotting

    Development Progress

    Hero2.png

In the latest DCS Open Beta update, we added a new target spotting algorithm that allows the rendering of objects to not be affected by view zoom level and have a maximum rendering distance based on the object size. Some community members have responded positively to these changes; however, we have also received some critical feedback, especially from VR users. In the most recent DCS 2.9 Open Beta update, we will be adding a settings toggle to switch this algorithm ON or OFF. If set to OFF, the rendering is reverted to the previous method. We continue to improve this feature for VR, and we would like to extend our thanks for your feedback.

    Mi-24P Hind

    New Campaign

    Hero1.png

In the DCS: Mi-24P Hind "Revenge" campaign, you will participate in similar events to the DCS: Su-25 campaign of the same name, this time as an army aviation pilot.

According to intelligence reports, there is evidence of a Georgian military ground force concentration on the south-eastern side of Enguri River along KAHAT - OIREME - BASHI - RIKE. They are attempting to create a striking echelon, consisting of the 2th MIB and reinforcing units. Enemy radiocommunication and the number of radio checks has also been increased.

In order to withstand the imminent threat in the region, the necessary reinforcements of friendly troops have been undertaken including; the shift of an extra pair of DCS: Mi-24P Hind attack helicopters to the advance position 2 km west of ACHIGVARA (callsign "Skala").

The “Revanche” campaign for the Hind and the brand new 3D pilot model are slated to be included in the next DCS 2.9 open beta update. Stay tuned!

Recently we announced that we have been reviewing new information about the differences between Mi-24V and Mi-24P swash plate movement limits. After thorough additional checks with our SME, we've got more factual information from the real aircraft. The current implementation still stands correct as a result of that research and in the end we've concluded that currently no changes are needed.

    AGM-45 Shrike

    Development Progress

    Hero2.png

As many aviation weapons experts know, the first generation of anti-radiation missiles that appeared in the 1960s, such as the AGM-45 Shrike, had interchangeable seekers tuned to different frequency bands. At that time, it was not possible to make one broadband universal seeker, so seekers were mounted on missiles before flight in accordance with the target type it was planning to strike. The Shrike has 10 interchangeable seekers tuned to different frequency bands that overlap each other. Wider bands are suitable for attacks on a family of similar radars, whereas narrower ones are for hitting specific types of radio-emitting equipment.

    Hero3.png

The AGM-45 Shrike missiles were widely used in the US Air Force by many tactical aircraft since the Vietnam War. In fact, they were the main ARM of both the multi-role F-4E Phantom aircraft and the specialized F-4G Wild Weasel. In DCS, you will be required to select the seeker from a special weapon settings panel in the Mission Editor.

    F-4E Phantom II

    Pre-purchase now

    Hero1.png

The F-4 Phantom II is an American two-seat, twin-engine, all-weather, long- range supersonic jet interceptor and fighter-bomber originally developed by McDonnell Aircraft for the United States Navy. After entering service with the Navy in 1961, it became adopted by the United States Marine Corps and United States Air Force. Due to its high adaptability, versatility and for its time, unparalleled capabilities, it quickly turned into the main workhorse for all 3 branches and spread beyond the borders of the United States, going on to serve and protect 12 nations across the world, with Phantoms still in operation today. Its production ran from 1958 to 1981, and with nigh 5200 Phantoms built, it became the most produced supersonic US military aircraft in the history, solidifying its place as one of the most recognizable and well known aircraft of the cold war era.

It truly was an iconic and phabulous aircraft that enjoyed unrivaled power and capabilities at the time. It instilled a sense of wonder with unmatched character and left its pilots with a deep sense of respect and love. Both an interceptor and potent air to air fighter, it proved its multirole capabilities as a highly effective air to ground workhorse which packed a serious punch. This unprecedented mission agility and reliability is reflected in the type’s operational lifetime which spanned well over six decades, continuing even today.

    Hero2.png

Some of the important features of the aircraft are the two General Electric J- 79 turbofan engines which generated  an impressive dry thrust of 23,810 lbs and a max afterburner thrust of 35,690 lbf; a crew of two; the powerful AN/APQ-120 Radar; the Digital Scan Converter Group (DSCG); the Weapons Release Computer Set (WRCS); the Aircraft Weapons Release Unit (AWRU) and an Altitude Reference and Bombing Computer Set (ARBCS). The DSCG version of the F-4E also comes with the AN/AVQ-23 Pave Spike targeting pod, allowing for precision strikes and the (self-)-employment of laser guided ammunition. Additionally the F-4E can carry the AGM-65 Maverick, a wide array of iron bombs as well as TV and laser guided bombs, plus the capability to carry out Wild Weasel (SEAD) tasks in a limited capacity with the AGM-45 Shrike.

Unlike previous Phantom variants, the -E comes equipped with an integrated M61 Vulcan cannon that can be used both in an air to ground and air to air role. It has an optical sight that allows for lead computing optical sighting (LCOS) in air to air, as well as the ability to carry additional Vulcan cannon pods. It benefits from the ALR-46 Radar Warning Receiver, the AN/ALE-40 countermeasures suite, the AN/ALQ-131 ECM pod, KY-28 encryption equipment and employs a range of early to modern era AIM-9 Sidewinder and AIM-7 Sparrow missiles for aerial combat that can be also used through the additional specialized CAGED and computer automatic acquisition (CAA) modes.

The Heatblur Simulations F-4E Phantom II aims to simulate this iconic aircraft as a high-fidelity module for DCS, being the culmination of several years of research, coding and modeling.

Special points to highlight are the extensive use of laser scanning and photogrammetry from real Phantoms at various museums, the detailed External Flight Model (EFM) developed over the past several years and verified by F-4 pilots and WSOs, the detailed modeling of the AN/APQ- 120 radar, the various complex onboard systems, and the ability to fly as a two- crew aircraft in multiplayer in addition to the proprietary JESTER-AI assisting you as your AI-WSO in singleplayer.

    Hero3.png

Key features of the Heatblur Simulations DCS: F-4E Phantom II include:

    • The simulation of both the DSCG and DMAS equipped -E variants, the DMAS version following later during the Early Access period.
    • Highly-detailed external model that is built using laser scanning and photogrammetry taken of real F-4 Phantoms across the globe.
    • New weapon models for some of the F-4 Phantom payloads such as the AGM-45 Shrike, the AGM-12 Bullpup, the AGM-62 Walleye, and AN/AVQ-23 Pave Spike targeting pod.

      • Mass based physics system, allowing for unprecedented simulation of moving surfaces, with realistic behavior according to their mass and properties.
    • Fully functional multi crew that allows a two-seat functionality in multiplayer. This allows a player as pilot to team up with another player as the Weapon Systems Officer, WSO.
    • JESTER AI 2.0: Heatblur’s new and improved lifelike AI that fills the role of the WSO when flying in singleplayer or multiplayer without a human WSO. JESTER AI 2.0 expands functionality, dialogue options, and more.
    • A simulated Crew Chief for a more immersive and complete startup procedure.
    • Later during early access, a brand new walkaround mode allows you to do pre-flight checks on your aircraft.
    • A new versatile set of UI features that allows for live in-cockpit viewing of the manual and the ability to interact with the various settings and options pertaining to your mission and flight. This feature will be continually expanded during Early Access.
    • Introducing Heatblur Interactive Tooltips that provide the ability to click on a switch and be directly taken to the relevant manual part without ever leaving your cockpit.
    • New and improved effects like advanced overwing vapors, new procedural animation systems, and more.
    • Detailed and highly accurate simulations of the AN/APQ-120 radar and ALR-46 RWR.
    • A detailed simulation of the AN/AVQ-23 Pave Spike targeting pod that allows the WSO to guide laser guided munitions dropped by the pilot or other aircraft (buddy-lasing).
    • A comprehensive digital manual, both as a PDF and as a continually updated online manual. It is directly accessible from within the cockpit at any time via Interactive Tooltips and/or the EBAG.
    • A complete set of interactive and voiced tutorials.
    • A comprehensive set of missions and campaigns to be gradually released during Early Access and beyond.
    • NOTE: Some features may not be available immediately. The later F-4E DMAS equipped variant, including Pave Tack and TISEO, will follow during the early access period and the tutorials and campaigns will be implemented and expanded as well.
