    http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1553357&postcount=467

  4. Update: word from the team is that most of the translation work is done. However we still have editing and production work to do. This can also be time consuming, but at least I think it's safe to say we do not expect significant delays with the MiG-15bis manual.

  5. There will definitely be an English manual for the MiG-15bis, although as you may have guessed not ready for the public beta release. This will come with the quickstart manual (now completed and being updated) and a set of essential training missions. The full flight manual is still being produced and translated. We are making every effort to avoid a major delay with this as we had with the Mi-8 manual. ED and BST have invested in hiring more translators to this end.

In the meanwhile, the MiG-15bis product description with an overview of the simulation features and aircraft systems is now available here:

    http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/products/mig15bis/?PAGEN_2=3

Naturally much of this content comes from the WIP flight manual.

  6. Thank you for positive responses. The delay situation was worrisome for the entire team as we fully appreciate the image problem this was creating, so it is very reassuring to see this reaction despite the difficult waiting period.

An updated version of the manual is being prepared now that will replace all of the images and have some additional editing/formatting improvements. This is going out shortly (days). There may be additional updates as we move forward, but a final version is not likely to be ready until the module itself goes final. I don't have a target date for this at the moment, but I would not recommend getting your expectations up for Christmas. Besides completing documentation and training, there are still features being developed/completed in code, so estimate further out, though hopefully not too long!

    P.S. Sling feature is WIP.

  7. Has anybody got the sling load camera to work? I was able to pick up a load but not use the camera when I tried yesterday (I only spent a few minutes so it might have been my fault).

This is way better for sling loads than the Huey! Actually has power and stability.

The dust clouds are a welcome addition.

The cargo camera has been disabled and replaced by the cargo position indicator. See attached picture guide.

  8. Hello, most patient BST users. The Mi-8MTV2 English language flight manual is now prepared enough for at least an unofficial public release. It is still a draft document requiring further development, editing and refinement, in particular replacement of all original Russian images with English ones and other important issues, however I believe it is now passed the point where we can justify holding it back any further.

Thank you for your patience. Work on this and other projects for the Mi-8MTV2 and other BST modules continues, including documentation and training content.

  9. Alright, the manual working doc is on its way for review and formatting. There are still some bits of translation left, but no more than a day's worth. It does however still need a thorough editing pass at the moment not only for general language, but consistency in terminology and naming conventions. Shouldn't be more than a few days.

  10. Didn't we hear this four months ago? What exactly is going to make the next four months any different from the last? Or are you just going to go silent again, and feed us the same story in January?

Honestly, at this point, I just want the manual so I can convince myself the module is "complete," and then move on and be done with Belsimtek.

No, I think we'll have the manual out next week. I was originally going to say this week, but that's probably not very likely and I don't want to end up with my foot in my mouth (again). If there are any further delays, we'll at least provide a working draft so you know it's in progress.

  11. Nice to cu back here EvilBivol.

It sounds promising with the Flight Manual.

I know that You are not responsible for the coding and modelling, but can You shed som light on the following missing items:

    (From the product page):

DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight is a highly realistic PC simulation of the Mi-8MTV2, a combat transport and fire support helicopter and an upgraded variant of one of the most widely produced helicopters in the world - the Russian Mi-8 (NATO reporting name ‘Hip'). Having serving in over 50 countries in a wide variety of models over the past 40 years, the Mi-8 is a revered veteran of countless military operations and civilian services around the world. Developed by Belsimtek and Eagle Dynamics, the team behind the hit title DCS: UH-1H Huey, DCS Mi-8MTV2 continues to deliver exceptional realism and immersive gameplay within the DCS World virtual battlefield.

The simulation features accurate modeling of all primary aircraft systems, avionics, and proper functionality of nearly all cockpit switches and controls. Flight and other dynamics are modeled using real-time physics calculations and carefully tuned using actual Mi-8MTV2 documentation and pilots deeply involved in development and testing. The result is not only the most realistic Mi-8 reproduction on the PC, but a comprehensive helicopter model that correctly presents complex dynamic effects particular to helicopter flight, such as: autorotation, vortex ring state (VRS), translational lift, and many others.

As part of the DCS World battlefield, you are placed in the cockpit of the Mi-8MTV2 to fly combat transport and support missions as the left pilot, right pilot or gunner. Equipped for close fire support, the helicopter can be armed with unguided rockets, gun pods, and on-board machine guns. In the transport role, a cargo of up to four tons can be carried internally or three tons on an external sling system to deliver and retrieve supplies in a wide variety of terrain and weather conditions. A series of single missions and a handcrafted, immersive campaign plunge you into the heat of battle in the DCS World battlefield of countless AI and a variety of player-controlled fighter and attack aircraft, helicopters, and ground units. Get online to play with or against other DCS players in a synthetic online battlefield.

A quickstart guide and interactive training help you get started quickly while the comprehensive Flight Manual details the helicopter's systems and operational procedures. A wide variety of gameplay options allows each player to tailor their difficulty level as required.

Key Features of DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight include:

    • Unmatched flight physics providing the most realistic and dynamic conventional helicopter experience on the PC
    • Multiple player positions, including pilot, co-pilot, flight engineer, and door gunner
    • Accurate and highly detailed 3D cockpit featuring six-degrees-of-freedom technology compatible with head-tracking devices
    • Interactive cockpit controls that allow you to operate systems using the mouse
    • Accurate modeling of the Mi-8MTV2 instruments, weapons, engines, radios, fuel, electrical, and hydraulic systems
    • Highly detailed Mi-8MTV2 external 3D model, liveries, and weapons
    • Accurate audio environment based on custom Mi-8MTV2 sound samples
    • Immersive, handcrafted campaign with a variety of transport and fire support missions
    • Training with interactive and video lessons
    • Multiplayer coop mode for crew members of the same helicopter under development for a later update
    • Developed in close cooperation with actual Mi-8MTV2 operators

Mi-8MTV2 - General Design and Mission Overview

The Mi-8MTV2 is designed to enhance the mobility of ground forces and provide fire support on the battlefield.

The primary missions performed by the helicopter include:

    • Tactical air assault
    • Air mobility of ground forces
    • Transport of internal and external cargo
    • Destruction of ground targets on the forward edge of the battle area (FEBA) and within tactical depth, such as: infantry, lightly armored vehicles, anti-tank positions, artillery, radar and reconnaissance positions, anti-aircraft defense positions, forward command posts, helicopters and other aircraft positioned on the ground
    • Airborne reconnaissance
    • Airborne mine placement
    • Search and rescue
    • Medical evacuation

The internal and external payload of the helicopter can be configured as required to perform the above missions, including fitting of armament, additional fuel tanks, internal and externally slung cargo, medical stretchers, etc.

The helicopter can be operated in daytime or nighttime and under visual or instrument meteorological conditions.

The crew consists of three members: the Pilot-Commander, Pilot-Navigator, and Flight Engineer.

The text highlightet in red are features still missing.

Looking int the files, it's clear that no real progress has been mad for almost 6 month.

    What are the plans ?

Note that I don´t ask for a firm release date, but rather some words on what to expect in terms of progress and timeframe.

I think we deserve som info.

    Best regards

    FinnJ

I too would like to know the answers to these questions

    and a

+1 for please give us the manual soon , it is what is preventing me from buying the sabre

Sling load is in development and actually partially implemented (wire and load can connect to the helicopter, but overall feature is still WIP).

Crew chief gunnery and door gunners are still planned, but we want to implement them properly when multiplayer coop technology is ready in DCS, which is also now under development by ED. This is not something BST can do independently. We did implement a workable solution for the Huey and its actually partly based on that experience that we feel it now makes more sense to develop these features in step with the improved capabilities being prepared for DCS World multiplayer.

The language in the General Design and Mission Overview section is not a feature list, but part of the helicopter description taken from the manual (!). So I would hesitate to say that minelaying or medevac with stretchers are necessarily planned features, but when DCS has improved infantry models and can better support such gameplay elements, I think we will revisit them and consider the possibilities of implementation.

  13. We'll begin with a few tips and hints from the DCS Sabre producer:

    1. After starting the engine, don't forget to contact the ground crew and request to turn off ground electrical power. Otherwise you'll hear back from the surprised ground crew as you roll out to taxi with the "cables" plugged in.

    2. If starting from the ramp, trim the controls for take-off prior to starting the take-off roll. The Take-off Trim lamp on the instrument panel will briefly light when the take-off trim setting is set. Take-off trim is accomplished with the ailerons and rudder neutral, and the elevators set for slight nose-up action. Setting take-off trim helps to ease aircraft control after take-off.

    3. A warning horn is heard in the cockpit when reducing throttle to Idle with the landing gear retracted. If Idle throttle setting is intended, you can silence the horn by pressing the Horn Cut Out Button on the left forward console.

    4. The canopy cannot be opened at airspeeds beyond 215 knots, the pressurization system prevents this. If flying faster than 215 knots with the canopy switch set to OPEN, the canopy will open once airspeed drops below 215 knots and fly off the fuselage. The canopy can be opened safely below 160-170 knots.

    5. Use the aircraft/cockpit shake as an indication of maximum G/AoA when maneuvering. When the vibrations occur, slightly reduce stick pull to prevent stalling as airspeed continues to drop.

    6. Overstress/Over-G (possible above 300 knots) can cause accumulating structural deformation of the wings. This can lead to uncontrolled rolling and pitching action. If we obtain confirmed data on breaking wings on a Sabre, we'll add this feature in a patch. :)

    7. A number of nasty surprises are present when flying at maximum airspeed: negative pitching moment, uncommanded roll, inability to maintain a sustained roll (especially when G loaded). To actively maneuver at maximum airspeeds, make sure you have a safe altitude margin, utilize the speed brake, climb to bleed off excess airspeed, and reduce engine power.

    8. Use the speed brake to decelerate.

    9. Reaching the aircraft's service ceiling of 52,000 feet is a tedious task that takes approximately 25 minutes. However altitudes of 40,000 - 45,000 feet can be reached in 8 -12 minutes. Still, doing so requires maintaining a speed/climb schedule or risking running out of energy and stalling.

    10. Always trade altitude for speed (especially in combat!).

    11. Maintain safe approach speeds when landing taking into account the aircraft's weight. Do not allow the airspeed to fall below recommended limits. If the airspeed does fall too low and a stall is approaching, do not attempt to chase the runway to "save" the landing, instead abort the approach, increase engine power, retract the gear and flaps and go around for another attempt.

    12. Use the wheel brakes early to make sure you have a controlled landing roll and avoid panicked braking at the end of the runway.

    http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1325462&postcount=1

  15. Constructive criticism can be found all over the forum. Hopefully that answers the topic.

As for E3, we did plan on having a bigger and much more visible presence in the main display area of the Oculus booth and also in separate meeting rooms for private demos, but as it happened we were lucky to be able to squeeze in what we did and even that took three days of frantic work from ED and sympathetic understanding from Oculus staff, who could have asked us to pack up as soon as problems appeared, but instead continued to offer their space even while we worked on our setup in the opening hours of the final day of the show. There are a lot of people seeking to work with them and they had no reason to continue accommodating us other than our good relations and mutual respect, which we value and hope will continue in the future.

    Stay positive. ;)
