Best place to find F-4E cockpit blueprints?
Bucic replied to _BringTheReign_'s topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
No need to get Amish like that There's a simplified F-4 available already with the final release coming soon (?). Isn't the 3d cockpit file compatible with DCS ModelViewer at least in case of the simplified one? -
Like a table tennis drill. Cut the foreplay, ramp up mindful repetitions. Got it

Best place to find F-4E cockpit blueprints?
Bucic replied to _BringTheReign_'s topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
i don't mean to sound like a broken record, but this doesn't even come close to what you can achieve with DCS ModelViewer. I reckon anyone in doubt simply doesn't know what orthographic view means -
Are the two (BFM and CFM) F-5E campaigns good at that? Do they even come close to what Tactical Pascale has created? https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/shop/campaigns/filter/aircraft-is-f-5e/apply/

@Noctrach Ah, got it bookmarked of course

@Noctrach Thanks for the write-up. What are "butterfly sets"?

It's not clear to me what offsets to what. Just making sure you're not comparing a %MAC(fuel) graph with the AOA(fuel) graph. That may well be, but it isn't meant in any way that is actually significant to the pilot. Which coincides with lack of center cell specific indications in the cockpit. You may also take a look at the figure 1-34 to see that the center cell lacks any significant components. To all my knowledge it's "just a cavity." I'd love to learn about a possible deeper story behind it but for now I'm not convinced there's anything to it. Again - from the pilot's point of view. Could you please remind me the location of the flight preparation charts in the FM where you go from loadout to a confirmation of safe mission CG location range? I'm on mobile lately. I assume that is your purpose in digging into balance changes. Is this correct?
-
I don't think the capacity is stated anywhere. In fact the entire FM chapter on fuel system starting from 1-37 doesn't even mention center cell. May I ask how exactly would you use such data (with FM page if possible)?

Center and Aft are treated as one section, system-wise. My understanding is that this piece of information is not present because it's not useful. I'd love to lay my hands on AMM for the F-5E. They are rather absent for a grandpa like this. On the other hand AMM's are not freely available for anything. Maybe it's by some governmental restrictions? I've got plenty of helicopter maintenance documentation from my previous job but then again when I was on the road and needed some info I wasn't able to find any docs. Even though the helicopters were 100% civilian variants.

Hi BTR! I only found this and I doubt you're going to find what the '18 guys get in abundance. I'd use DCS ModelViewer in Orthographic view mode to get whatever dimensions you need based on a reference of your choice. I'd make sure to note the raw values as well in case it turns out your reference was slightly off. At least that's what I rely on with F-5E. -
Intel PresentMon bottleneck and delay monitoring released
Bucic replied to Bucic's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Have you compared hour results with the built-in monitoring tools invoked by RCtrl+Pause (?) that cycles through the graph as well as the full real-time text report? With my Core i?-12100F and RTX 2070 I'm always GPU limited and it's a peaceful life -
@_BringTheReign_ Laugh all you want, but I'm confused as far as the ALPS switch go. I finally found an affordable source, so I bought 2. 1 for the trim, 1 just in case. I noticed the ALPS switch is really small. So small it almost fits the thumb hole... <cogs turning> ... wait... picked up the thumb connector (the one from the F-5E grip file thesimnet_F5_Grip.stl). Damn! It fits! And since the switch has a press action as well it pretty much solves everything in that area. Now a stupid question: was that your intention? I mean, to use TWO ALPS switches for the F-5E variant of the grip?

Does DCS see them?

@_BringTheReign_ Is that close-to-real extension model https://youtu.be/3D4wnmjt9E0?t=178 intended for sharing as well by any chance? I could really use it right now as it's the time I need to figure out all of the components between the grip and the gimbal. EDIT: @_BringTheReign_ I'm going to use this section for the TheSimNet grip issues: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5764003 - missing in the BOM: M2 threaded brass insert ?3 pieces? - BOM: screw head type: flat head (conical) -> slot head (cylindrical) - YT channel: Discord invite link invalid? - the TRIM HAT hole (round) not fitting on the ALPS RJK 4-way switch (half-round) shaft - the F-5E thumb switch hat hole (round) not fitting on the ALPS RJK 4-way switch (half-round) shaft

I didn't imagine this is going to turn out so fine. If something goes badly later it doesn't matter, I'm going to fix it. I'm talking about the quality of the print. I made sure to watch the creation of that first hanging layer of the palm rest. Man! It looked so satisfying! Like a bogus marketing video

Sounds awesome! The printer I borrowed sure is a handful. Not only it's an off-brand model, it's got more surprises! I decided to investigate the issue of the blower not working (the one blowing down). Apparently it is the one more important for the printing quality... Initial state: 1. the fan on the block works, and is correctly controlled by the slicer software/g-code. 2. there is no mention of a second fan in the configs. I deduce from 1 and 2 that there must be something wrongly connected. The results of the investigation: (a) the fans were connected in reverse (swapped places) b) ADDITIONALLY, the connector on the circuit board was connected with the + and - swapped, so the fan connected to that harness simply did not work at all. Now they both work and I am going to print the tunnel for that down-blower tomorrow. https://lumeplus.wixsite.com/lume/product-page/lume-orange

Just a trivia. I've bought a stash of old toggle switches. Mostly from Polish radio equipment of older date but among them were those three. They look very similar to some of the MiG-21 switches. I think they are illuminated and they have aroun 0,5 kg of actuation force, satisfying as hell I was looking into making my own heavy-actuation switches so it's tempting to dig into them, but they are not dismantable.

Isn't the recent AI work intended to address exactly that? Murdock on YouTube is a highly skilled F-5E pilot and he does dogfighting AI trials from time to time. You're missing out if you're an F-5E enthusiast and you're not subscribed yet Murdok - DCS F-5E Tiger II ... How good is DCS 2.8 AI really? (1) - https://youtube.com/watch?v=iVgT1PNzkno&feature=share

Nice work! Which brand and models are those (both types)? Could you post links?
-
Since you're offering - could you please upload your files somewhere? I've got a <profanity>ty printer and have to make multiple test prints. I might as well make it spit out something useful.

Thanks for chiming in! And, again, I salute you for your continued contributions! The F-4 grip was a godsend already, and then, bam!, F-5 grip update! Have you investigated splitting the model in two halves, as you'd do in case of casting? I'm trying to lay out support blockers in Cura. It's rather cumbersome but I'm curious. What times did you manage to cut down the printing process down to?

LCtrl+F4 OR LShift+F4 combined with manual camera control using a headtracking device. EDIT: OR could it be just F2 and the changes of orientation with respect to horizon come from significant headtracking camera movement? dump incoming https://www.reddit.com/r/hoggit/comments/gryawt/any_tips_on_how_to_take_better_photos_on_dcs/ ryu1940 Left control + y two times to lose that bar on the bottom. You can use left alt + f2 to change the focus point in the f2 camera. You can use right control + the * and / keys on the numpad to change the FOV or the camera shot. Right shift + * or / will zoom the camera in and out. Left shift + F2 will turn off aircraft labels. This allows you to take more dynamic shots that look less like the stock F2 shots.
