  1. I noticed a message on the website that says all games should be purchased via one website. Will Steams version work with non-steam games and/or can I re-download from digitalcombatsimulator.com and use my Steam key?
  2. So if I own DCS-A10 from Steam but KA-50 direct from ED, will the two link with BS2?
  3. That worked. Thanks! I've been out of the pc business for so long I have forgotten literally everything I knew. Sad, but my aging brain only has room for UNIX and coding now. Now if I can just locate my serial key off the old harddrive somewhere. I have been unsuccessful so far. I seem to recall having to login to the store to get the key in the first place. lets see if I can make progress there
  4. I know I should do some research and what not but I am a bit overwhelmed at the moment with projects. I received my new PC today and it was loaded with Win7. When I installed Blackshark and tried to run it, I received an error stating dx9.dlls were not found on the system. The system is currently at dx11 and I would assume that its backward compatible but that might not be the issue. I tried to run the game in compat mode Winxp sp2 but the same error occured. I could try to install dx9 from its setup but what would that do to 11? How should I proceed? Thanks, Jeff
  5. Outstanding! Ask and ye shall receive. The movie captures are nice. Jeff eh? I think this replied to the wrong thread. Did I get hijacked?

  7. Kuky, You can connect with 2 pcs from the same household. This is achieved because even though you have 1 external IP address, each packet has contained within the header a source and destination that is stripped off as it travels up the OSI model. Hyperlobby should simply see 2 requests from the same IP as opposed to 1. Sorry, I am getting called away to a meeting here so I have to make this quick. I can say from the past that I have had problems getting games to talk when they use different OS versions. I have had nothing but problems getting XP to talk with Win ME. Various connection issues with a myriad of different problems. Most of the suggestions here are sound and you should make sure they are in order first. Also, make sure you are not double firewalling with hardware as well as software. Make sure your ports are forwarded for both machines on the router. You probably do not have an IP conflict but make sure anyway. If all else fails, get a cross over cable and eliminate all the hardware entirely and you can troubleshoot from there out. Crap, that meeting is calling. Hope that helps
  8. I am pretty sure it was the real deal. If it were skinned over another chopper it is quite impressive.
  9. I always take what Hollywood does with a grain of salt. You can only get a basic idea from the movies. The rest you have to research yourself and even then you still question the source motivations, and/or its political agenda. History is written by the victor making even so called historically accurate movies questionable. On a lighter note, that Hind looked bad ass! Apparently, People on these forums haven't seen the movie or don't care to comment I tried to start a discussion but failed. I suck at life....
  10. Off topic but I am curious if you guys have seen the movie, "Blood Diamond". There is a scene where a Hind and another chopper are used to suppress a rebel camp. The other chopper might be a Lynx? Have I got that right? Anyway, can any of my fellow Russian simmers out here tell me how that might work? Does the studio say, "Hey, we would like to rent/lease one of your military choppers?" or do they convert a civilian one to look like a Hind? Because I am by far no expert but that was one impressive looking chopper if I remember right. By impressive I mean looked accurate. Unlike in the movie, "The Fourth War" where they took a screaming mimi and dolled it up to look like a Hind. Just curious
  11. Some people have tried to answer this post and and some, like me, have gone off on wild tangents. Try not to get frustrated. Back on track it looks like hes talking about the F-14 cockpit. I found another picture of the lines hes asking about. I do not know if these are detcords or not. Judging from their position directly over the head of the pilot and rio, I would say that they are. However, while searching the web for photos, I notcied that these line may or may not have been removed from the later versions of the Tomcat. Hope this helps
  12. Holy crap your right, they did go out the bottom. http://www.ejectionsite.com/b-52.htm It wasn't a dream afterall! Figures, there were no hot chicks
  13. scratch that firing down through the floor bit. That may have just been a dream I had.
  14. Man you guys can get downright mean! Would you eat the moon if it were made of ribs? It’s a relatively simple question, just answer it and we can move one. Now to throw some more fuel on this one. If I am not mistaken, there are some ejection systems that have a barb or pole that elevates out of the top of the seat to puncture the glass as well. I don't know which aircraft have this. Also, the old versions of the high altitude SAC bombers had ejections that fire the crew down through the bottom of the aircraft instead of up. And I believe the B-1 has a command capsule ejection doesn't it? Where the whole cockpit gets blown off on rockets and then slowly lowered. Oh, I think it was the F-111 that did that too. Most of this has long been updated I am sure into a different system. I just seem to remember some of this stuff from 20 years ago. And personally, I would not use the movie "Top Gun" for any sort of factual information as that was pure Hollywood popcorn. Oh and I do remember this as well since we are talking about ejection systems. The A-6 Intruder did not have a linked system. So if one guy left, the other was on his own. I know pilots would take extra shoestrings and tie them to the face curtain of the ejection handle of the guy next to him. That way, if they had to eject their friend, they would pull that and not get their arm torn off from the rapidly vacating seat. And I believe the A-6 had the post on the top of the seat to just smash through the glass on ejection. Reference another Hollywood popcorn movie, "Flight of the Intruder". Great book, bad movie! I am ready for my ritualistic beating now
  15. I wouldn't mind taking another shot at a JSF F35 simulation. Now that the contract has been won, the platform can be more specific. Probably a little too early to ask for one of those though huh? A guy can dream can't he?
  16. Sounds like a good plan to me, thank you for the replies. I have heard that fraps can degrade system performance quite noticeably, is that true? Also, given the nature of the movies being a flight simulator, do you think it would be awkward or corny to have dialogue or even some live footage mixed in. I think filters being applied to blend the two together are a must. I am just afraid it might turn out as silly. Jeff
  17. trying my hand at some movies. So, what do I need to get started in the movie making business? Software wise, what do you guys use? I am really interested in this aspect and think I could bring some very interesting content to it. I just need some starter advice Jeff
  18. At first, I learned by crashing a lot, but I have since upgraded into mid air collisions! I am pretty pleased with the progress myself. Seriously, you may consider this (although I am sure the hard core will surely flame me) Try turning the realism down until you have an understanding of each particular system. For example, there is no need for you get totally frustrated with the radar right out of the gate. So, leave the invulnerability on as well as tags above the targets. Once you have a good feeling for it, turn them off one (or if your bold more than one) at a time. As Yellonet stated, start with take offs and landings. Navigation is a big one! It’s not only important to fly to a waypoint, which is easy, but its equally important to arrive on time! Nothing sucks more than being the only one in a hot area. Once you can do this, do what 845 mentioned above and pick an aircraft. The different displays and layouts can add confusion to an already complicated manner. Not knowing how your aircraft will perform in a situation is certain death. For you... not them. Once you get to know how the aircraft performs you can move on to the defensive and evasion stuff. It’s a bummer when you try to dodge a missile and screw yourself into the ground. You could learn radar before or after that one in my opinion. Getting proficient at killing someone is great but it won't help you if you’re dead. That’s a chicken or the egg sort of scenario imo. Go with works for you. Hope this helps Jeff
  19. I am glad someone started the topic here. I was just about to put through an order for a new system. After flying the sildeshow that is FSX for approximately 30 seconds before becoming frustrated, I decided to finally take the step from low to mid end systems to an "above the curve" one. I just priced out EVGA nvidia 680i chipset Core2 Duo 6600 2 GB OCZ PC 6400 ram OCZ 650W power supply Geforce 8800 gtx HDR (the HDR seems right on for flight sims) and a raptor or two for the harddrive Other odds and ends for sound and what not My current aging system is Ath 64 3200+ 2 gb corsair ram pc3200 ati x1800 and other unmentionables. The only thing that would remain would be my HOTAS cougar :P Oh and I guess my keyboard ... maybe my mouse Jeff
  20. I logged on today thinking I was gonna get crushed intot he ground. I am glad people can keep this on a mature level. Thanks to the gentlemen who answered each of my questions. As I said, I don't keep up on this stuff like I used to (and never as in depth as you guys have. Truely amazing stuff) Reading up a few posts someone asked about the next generation of stealth as opposed to the old school stuff. Over on metacafe, if you read through their flame war, a person brought up that Russia has a new stealth in the works. (I also read something about this not too long ago in the news) Thats a very interesting question. What is it? On a side note: Read the book "the Minotaur" by Stephen Coonts. He has an interesting take on a stealth technology that I think was explored at one time. Its an active system that somehow intercepted a radar wave and then returned a null signal. I believe heat was a problem as well as the possibility of being overwhelmed. Was this pure fiction? Jeff
  21. I swear I was over on metacafe and witnessed the same argument. I don't have near the knowledge of these planes that you guys do but I have given this some thought as well. (Sorry, I am not aware of the deadhorse thread mentioned earlier. So I apologize for jumping on this wagon late) I bet you guys will have the answers to these questions. While the cobra is really nice to watch, wouldn't that just get the amraam to slam into your skin all that much quicker? Didn't we have a modified F-15C eagle at one time with vectored thrust and canards (along with louvers for reversing) There would have to be some reason that our military chose not to explore this option. Possibly they believe speed/stealth is the greater advantage over maneuverability. This aircraft was from the mid to late 80's? Thats some time ago. Don’t' we blow a hell of a lot more of our taxpayers money on training our guys than anyone else? Isn't our technology in terms of the electronic battlefield superior? Data linking etc etc. I know Russian aircraft have the IRST (don’t we have some equivalent?) I remember hearing Russians had superior engines that gave an enormous thrust advantage (the show boasted at the time a mig29 could perform "almost" the same as an F-15 with one engine shut down) I swear! It was on a show! Hey! Didn't India just whoop our ass in some match 9/10 times with their migs vs our F-15's? Who wants to field this one? Any takers? Jeff
  22. ok ok, you guys are right. Thats not an F-16. I see the divider now that I have taken a 2nd look.
  23. that does not disprove e=mc2. What your refering to is redshift and even einstein I believe knew of that. and by GOD! thats an F-16 in the video
  24. If that were an F-15 in the video, wouldn't we be seeing the canopy seperation bar? (Or whatever you call it?) Wouldn't this be an F-16? I only got a brief glimpse at the video while I was working but that was my initial thought. As far as life on other planets, definately yes. Even intelligent life. Part of the problem with the whole thing is we have been looking for how long? Say 40-50 years. The universe is how old? 15-20 billion? So we are going to try to grab signals in that time frame? Who knows how many stars are out there that the light hasn't even reached us yet. One of the next satellites to go up will be a series of five telescopes that will have a laser orbit around one another. This is supposed to allow us to actually view a planet and not its lightwave or how it makes the sun wobble. The spitzer telescope has found some amazing things and its only a glimpse of what there is to come. This project will probably get cancelled however to allow for a base on the moon. (/sigh) |_______________________________________________.________________| and thats exaggerating. Did we land on the moon... Yes we did. I had a link to an article going over all of it in detail for you to look at, but that link seems to be down at the moment. You can find all of the documents at NASA's site as well as other government sites (although you could probably disupte these documents claiming they are part of the hoax). The author of the site points out that those who believe it was a conspiracy present you material so that you dont' have look into it yourself. In this way, they are much like car salesmen. Anyone ever get a lemon? You don't question anything they say whatsoever. yet when you take another look at it, their own conspiracy falls apart and they are left with nothing. They need far more concrete evidence than there being no crater under the lander module, (easily explained) no stars in the sky, (easy as well to debunk), the radiation of the Van Alan belt (a good one), or the flag waving on the moon (one of the easiest of all) As soon as the link is back up or I can find an alternate, I will post it. The author of the site was I believe a professor of astrophysics. I can't recall though. He listed his credentials I don't believe we are being visited by aliens. Most of the videos are poor at best and have already been proven fakes. More than likely the travel needed to cross that kind of distance, will not be obtained via a vehicle of normal means. It would most likely be provided by transcending dimensionally or by folding space. Nothing can go the speed of light except light itself E=mc2. As speed increases, so does mass. Even at the speed of light it would still take four years to get from the closest star system (Proxima Centauri) Whoops, this is running long gotta boogy Jeff
  25. That is exactly what I am looking for. Thanks ever so much! Now I can get back into the swing of things. Jeff VerDuin
