  1. Since we have the NTTR is allways thought something was missing in the training environment, the GTR-18. The GTR-18, also known as the smokey sam.

It is used to simulate sam (manpad) launches. It is either single unit or quad and can even be mounted on vehicles. The current version i created is the single rocket pad. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GTR-18_Smokey_Sam

Since i cannot texture or animate i will post the renders here and see if somebody can pick it up :)

  2. Don't even bother, helis useally fly low and slow, and this radar can't detect anything below 10000 feet. Im even taking it further, forget that the radar even exist, just load up IR's unless your going for targets flying really really high....:( The only thing this radar is good for is getting high, drinking it's cooling liquid..

It has to do with the speed of the target and the relative altitude towards the radar. The radar is designed to look forward, up and a bit down. It has nothing to do with your altitude bit with the radar search angle. Oh yeah...you also spot some ground clutter with the radar :)

  3. This is not true prior the update and all previous version the strobes can be moved.

There is no explanation in the manual that the TDC should be fixed.

Can you please point me out that this is how it should operate ?

According to the real mig21bis flight manual the range gates are in a fixed position. The rotator drum is then used to control the interferance setting. Thats the real world usage.

The range gates are fixed at 18 km (upper) and 12 km (lower)

  4. Well...all the versions in DCS do. Which he was referencing.

We don´t reference super mega awesome MiG-35s with new, less smokey engines.

The smokey MiG-29 Engines are a commonly known part about it.

I allways thought it had to do with engine tuning. When the engines are tuned for peace operations they are more smokey then they are tuned for war operations. It also had to due with higher maintenance when tuned for war.

  5. As far as i know those are the only under wing pods. They are not for AA but A2G. Yes, those older ones were put under the fuselage cause they had no internal gun what the BIS has. I'd rather have a garmin GPS....

  6. Hi guys,

I've created some models in the past for Lock On and recently i've returned to modelling.

I'm not good in texturing and i realy don't have time to learn it. So here by i would like to donate the model to somebody who would like to texture it and....in the future add it to DCS World...

  7. Lots of nice improvement in 1.2.15.

But drag should increase square with speed and with it longitudinal desaceleration. You can check accelerations charts, the slope at 1G is for level flight.

I certainly can't keep a steady speed between mach 1 and mach 2, in level flight. Your are either accelerating with AFT on (even at lowest level, 655 C exhaust temp.) or descelerating with afterburner off. I only tested at 10000 m altitude. I can't imagine a real Mig-21 pilot constantly turning on and off the AFT to keep a mach 2 speed, and its not in the real manual either.

The 3 or 4 minutes limitation is only for emergency AFT. Hight altitud supersonic flights requieres afterburner, it is written in the manual.

Max speed at high altitud and level flight should be reached and maintained with afterburner. All the procedure is very clear in the real mig-21 bis manual.

With the current 1.2.15 there is no drag limitation and max speed is reached when engine fails, not when Engine Power = Drag.

Ofcourse you will need to keep the burner on to go supersonic. Its no super cruise aircraft...

  8. Hi all,

I've been experimenting with the CDU a bit and i got a question regarding that.

I would like to create a flight plan with some discontinuations in it to create exclusion zones or kill boxes on my TAD.

I created some IP's in the mission editor around sam / aaa sites so that when i look at the TAD i see...dont fly there. But i would like to make multiple zones but without a connection line between.

    Any idea somebody?
