  1. Because there was some messy business back in 2018/early 2019 involving a US based forum member, a Russian ED employee, and some alleged ITAR violations. If you have halfway decent google abilities you can read all about it, including court filings and the like. It was big enough to make international news. To cut out all the dancing around, obfuscation and corporate speak, that incident is literally the reason 1.16 became what it is.
  2. I’ve found a couple of options out there without having to join wings or squadrons. I’ve been successful in joining popular MP servers like Growling Sidewinder’s or the Dogfight server without any of the “bullshit”. No SRS, TeamSpeak, Discord, etc., etc., etc., required (last I checked). Just select a seat and off you go. I’d suggest that you’re up to speed on your IFF, team kills are obviously frowned upon and will sometimes get you booted from the server. But yeah, the vast majority of MP is hidden behind passwords and requirements for other scripts or installs to be running. I don’t know how most of that works either. I personally don’t have the large amount of free time required to invest in the squadron approach. And I’ve never gotten SRS to work. If it requires editing scripts, working with .lua’s, host/client knowledge or whatever, it pretty much guarantees that I can’t participate. You shouldn’t have to be a goddamn programmer or IT professional to get this stuff to work, but that’s DCS a lot of times. In summary, there’s a reason the vast majority of people stick with single player.
  3. THANK YOU for fixing the trees! Amazing!
  4. They can say whatever they want, and have for years now. It’s all just words anymore. I’ll “be happy” if we ever actually see any results, and based off ED statements on other sites any substantive improvements to core DCS (ATC, weather, ME, Combined Arms) are still a very long way off.
  5. Thanks for the info. My search-fu failed me. Oh give me a break.
  6. Sorry I don’t really know what you’re saying. I haven’t seen a performance difference, good or bad. Just much uglier trees. Is it fixable, or is this the new normal?
  7. It’d been a couple months since I updated, been out of the country for work. I updated last week and noticed while re-orienting with the F-18 that you could see wide area tree patterns more easily, like their repeating nature is more obvious. Then I got in the Huey last night. Low and slow the trees look really bad, super janky and angular. It’s like a child’s impression of cubism, especially the deciduous, non-conifer trees. I ran a clean up and repair with no improvement. Did something happen to the trees while I was gone? Is there a fix, or maybe a way to mod back in the trees from a couple months ago? It really looks bad while helicopter flying (and not great from altitude either). Edit: My screenshots aren't uploading, I’ll try again later. Thanks!
  8. I was really disappointed with the Rift S announcement. I’d been holding out hope for a true Oculus 2nd gen headset with at least a substantial FOV increase, or something to differentiate it. Instead they’re releasing a WMR clone. That’s fine if people like the Oculus ecosystem and want to stay with it, and Oculus is smart not to ignore the middle, more budget oriented market. But specs are a higher priority for me with VR and the Rift S falls really far short of an upgrade justification. (I’d actually consider it a downgrade if I purchased the S.) In my opinion the S doesn’t dispel the growing concern that Oculus doesn’t care about the hardcore PC gaming market anymore. I also agree that the existence of this sticky is just a Facebook quid pro quo to push a HMD that’s bordering on obsolete before it’s even released. One just has to look at all the non-sticky’d threads directly below this one to get really excited about new hardware.
  9. But in Notepad++ there isn’t a .cfg option in the “Save as Type” dropdown. File -> Save As File Name: “autoexec.cfg” Save as Type: ???
  10. Excuse my ignorance but is the autoexec file supposed to be saved as a .lua in Notepad ++? Do I manually add the .cfg suffix so that it looks like “autoexec.cfg”? Sorry, I don’t know how this “inside baseball” coder stuff works.
  11. Is the launch bug going to be addressed? With the deck sliding and inconsistent ability to launch carrier operations are currently still not worth the trouble. :(
  12. I mean this with respect, but that’s exactly what you’ve done with the interior sounds. You may have recorded every dial and switch in a real F-14, but the mix is so intentionally skewed it bares little resemblance to what flying a Tomcat actually sounds like. I personally hope the “final” state of the sounds is reconsidered.
  13. Never played multiplayer. It happens on self built missions and the lessons.
  14. I always reassign my EJECT key to the spacebar. In all the other modules the reassignment keeps the press-3-times requirement. In the F-14 it is only requiring one press. Since I’m in VR there have been more than a few accidental punch-outs while feeling for a different key. Can this get fixed please?
