Why would that be the case? Can't be because of mass, as I pointed out earlier, you're in a jet that weights 20 tonnes, barely breaking Mach 1.0 and can't do more than 9G, where a missile can pull 20-30G. The limitation for the amount of G a missile can pull is magnitudes more than any fighter aircraft will ever be able to pull. SAM missiles are several times larger than A2A missiles and they easily out maneuver fighter aircraft, or do you think you can out turn a missile from an S-300 or Patriot? If the R-33 can truly only manage 3-4G's, then it is just simply a case of it being bad, and the AIM-54 being much better. There are plenty test cases where the AIM-54 was tested against maneuvering targets and had no problem in intercepting them.

Wait... So you think your 20 000KG aircraft, traveling at only ~ M1.0, in a 6G turn, should be able to outmaneuver a 500KG, high performance air to air missile, whilst it is still in motor burn? And they call Tomcat drivers irrational fanbois. smh.

If this was related to Jester, there will be something in your logs about it. I've not had any issues today, whereas before the patching I would be lucky if the client didn't crash within 10 mins.
-
PD-STT / P-STT toggle works when you already have a target locked up in STT. Pressing it then, will have Jester switch from one to the other.
-
Bwahaha... Notching? After some reading of the RIO toys in the manual, and about 2-3 hours playing around in the RIO pit, I can confidently say, you may well be able to notch Jester, but you will not notch a human RIO that has spent some time with the AWG-9. If a good RIO has you on scope, in any mode, and their pilots follow to their direction, you are dead anywhere within 25nmi.

UNF... What I wouldn't give for that first aircraft in your sig to be in the DCS.

Stop picking 1v1 fights with an adversary that has better BVR capabilities and is more capable at dictating the range of the engagement. Use combined tactics with a wingman for increased survivability and PK. If you guys think you're having a hard time going up against a solo crewed F-14, wait until it's a human RIO that has scanned through the manual, with about 2 hours experience using the AWG-9. You are in for a rude awakening. No amount of notching nor NOE flight will save you from a sharp RIO at the helm of that radar.

Ironmike deleted that tread. It's probably due to the flaming that erupted when there was a guy that tried to argue that eyeball out G didn't exist and described a flat spin as nothing more than a merry-go-round in the sky, despite having SME's say otherwise and people actually doing the maths to prove he was wrong.

He IFF's anything you lock up in STT immediately, or that is locked up with ACM modes. Human RIO's have no excuse not to IFF a contact locked up using ACM modes. It's second nature for me by now. I see lock, I hit IFF interrogate. The GiF shouldn't even have to ask for it. The GiB should immediately declare the ID of the bandit. It's not rocket science, people.

You can use fighter to fighter link. Then your Tomcat acts as a highly mobile, very angry AWACS, just like the Iranians.

Wait....seriously!!!???!!! The HUD doesn't show airspeed????
umkhunto replied to gmelinite's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
For me maintaining corner speed is simple in the Tomcat. I know it's 325KIAS. So I know the needle must be between 300-400, about 3 needle widths. That's worked for me so far. -
The Mk-47, I guess. MK-60 and C are correctly named. Then again, it also depends on the version of tacview.
-
On my tacview, the Phoenix is called the AIM-54, not the 530D... Anywho... As many have said, when the missile loses lock in ARH, it switches to SARH. If you're up against a good RIO, that's really spiffy with the AWG-9, you're in a lot of trouble when a Phoenix is on the way.

Why are the f14 instrument clusters so poorly designed?
umkhunto replied to lancerr's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
You are wrong about the Su-27's RWR. It doesn't indicate distance. It indicates signal strength. Now, by virtue of the fact, when you're closer to said emitter, the SnR increases, which is maybe why you think indicates range. Thus, the closer emitter is more threatening. The F-14 RWR is miles better than what is in the SPO-15 RWR. It gives you a solid indication of all threats out, not just 2, also it gives you the type and its state. The march of the detected emitter outward on the RWR threat zones is more complex than the SPO-15, since it not only takes SnR into account, but also the state of the threat emitter, i.e. is it in search, tracking, guiding, launching, etc. -
Yup, that's exactly what my mate and I have experienced. Even had him black out in the back seat at about 1.1G. Seems we have RIO's that won't be able to stay conscious, even when just standing up.

Hi Guys, Great work thus far. An observation I've made, with my RIO is the odd behaviour of GLOC, specifically of the RIO. My RIO GLOCS way before I do, also with little no warning. Now, seeing as the GiF is further away from the centre of gravity, sure the pilot should be be affect far more severely by the effects of G, than the RIO. It's easy to test. Jump in the backseat with a friend. Ask him to pull G, you will black out well before your pilot does.

I have a flow I use when locking someone up. I'm going to assume you have F/F disabled. 1. IFF interrogate the brick, then compare with what I see on SA. 2. If I lock the contact, I again look at SA, and make sure that there is a star on the HAFU. 3. If the HAFU I have locked has a star, but is unknown (yellow) I interrogate again. 4. If the HAFU goes hostile (red) I fox. 5. If the HAFU stays yellow, I try to NCTR. 6. If I can't get the contact to flip to either friend (green) or hostile (red) and I can't get an ID from NCTR, I VID. Notice, I don't even mention the HUD TD box. Since that is currently known to not accurate reflect the IFF state, which apparently gets fixed tomorrow. Pity I won't be able to test for the foreseeable future, will be flying something else. ;) It is tedious to go through these steps, but I much prefer getting shot down myself being careful, while getting POS ID, rather than splashing a blue and dealing with that drama. Don't forget, there are more resources for doing ID'ing. Check AWACS, or check in with GCI if available. I wish the Hornet had the radio option to declare, like the F-15 has though...

It's important that you specify which missiles, and what you mean by streaks.
-
I've always preferred the look of weathered cockpits. I find the ones that don't look weathered, feels more artificial to me, even look a bit plastic.
-
Not indefinitely. It's just pushed to the back of the line for ED. Which means after F-16, after AH-1, after Mi-24, at the very least. So several years.
-
Cruise missiles don't care about STT or TWS and the improved guidance updates from locking in STT, might be a preference if you're shooting at a cruise missile that is quite unlikely to take evasive action.

Oscillation of Refueling hose during mid-air refueling
umkhunto replied to irfanahmed1979's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
It's not specific to the Tomcat, but all probe and drogue aircraft. When contact is made, the hose is supposed to "give", and draw back into the pod of the tanker, to counter the sine wave generated. -
