  1. I do the same as speed, instead of just sitting down and reading the gui manual, I just kept it open in another window. If I came across something I didn't know what it meant, I did a search in the pdf and almost always was able to find it... I HIGHLY recomend setting your game resolution to one size smaller than your desktop resolution and setting it for windowed mode, that way you can quickly go back and forth from your editor to things outside the editor, like the GUI manual.
  2. yea once does act like that... It doesn't just evaluate it once and then if it isn't true discard it... It keeps evaluating it until it becomes true and then discards it... I think you will have to make a once for a random flag becoming true so if you want 33% have flags 10, 11, and 12 evaluate so only one of them becomes true, and then make that particular jet spawn when say 11 becomes true...
  3. I think we may have to wait for DCS:nighthawk for nuclear payloads... I would much rather see accurate effects on ground vehicles... Or deformable terrain... My script that blows a hole in a runway 50 feet under the ground, leaves a pretty miserable hole, one which the runway that used to be there still flashes whenever you look at it from a particular angle... So I would say that is much higher on my want list, than russian giblets...
  4. Yea and that is pretty much it in a nutshell... I don't know I think I have gotten pretty anti-social in my older age, so I may be a minority on that whole front. It is like when my buddies try to get me to go out to the bar... Like what the hell do I want to do that for? When I can hang out at the house with a movie and some beer.
  5. Well to stay on topic... I think the real question about why aren't there more servers is, "what does playing online add?" Now for many of you, who have been here a while, do it to interact with other people, role play, or do whatever it is that makes the experience better with other people... For people like me though, who get intimidated by online, okay are these people friendly, or are they fanatics who are going to boot me because I don't know how to speak the lingo. For me personally I keep thinking about "World of Warcraft", the guys on there that if you are out of character for 1 second you are toast... Now it doesn't matter if it is true or not, but that initial fear of getting involved is what holds people back. So then you have a fallback, in most online "games" the online experience is "the game." You don't buy battlefield to play it offline, so that initial fear is put aside by the fact that the online portion is 100 times better than the offline portion. So it boils down to what really does online play offer, or APPEAR to offer. From someone who hasn't played online but once, it APPEARS that it doesn't offer much of anything over playing by myself. Note the keyword APPEARS, not saying that it doesnt but for the average guy or gal who has never flown online, what is the gameplay value of playing online?
  6. I hate to say it but I am affraid any innovation in the head tracking arena is going to be pushed by microsoft and sony with their next gen consoles... As soon as it becomes main stream on consoles I think it will give us simmers better hardware as well. It looks like they will go that direction with Microsoft's "beta" connect and titles like Forza claiming to have head tracking... I think for what it is TrackIr is great, it will be interesting to see what they come up with when the industry starts giving them more competetion.
  7. I suggest using the torrent, it downloaded in about an hour for the whole thing compared to 7 hours off of the ftp server.
  8. To each their own... I didn't spend 250 on my x52 pro, which I am very happy with... I will tell you I bought the game and I had an old saitek 6 button joystick with one hat, I played for about 5 minutes, turned it off and bought my x52 and didn't even attempt to play until it came in the mail. Like everyone else has said it isn't that it is impossible, but the game is so damn demanding that even with a top notch joystick it will take you at least a few days to remember the main functions... and trying to pull out of a dive and set your targeting pod on the next target while maintaining control would drive me insane with one hand on my joystick and one on my keyboard.
  9. All I changed in Nvidia control panel was GPU's to use global setting (default settings) then changed the Tried AFR_OF_SFR_FALLBACK_3AFR in inspector, and left everything else at default for the black shark profile in inspector... Very strange in deed. I only loaded it up long enough to get it in the air and play with the TGP so there may be some stuff I over-looked... I did notice when I was testing my mission in 1680x1050 SOME of the ground textures flickered a tiny bit when I looked at them at a certain angle, but nothing that looked out of the norm... I will have to play with some of the different weather options to make sure when I get home.
  10. You are getting +1!!! DCS make sure this is at the top of every technical thread you have.... My setup... 1 monitor GTX 590 I went ahead and downloaded the nvidia inspector because I couldn't find the AFR_OF_SFR_FALLBACK_3AFR in nvidia control panel... My results, increase of 20 fps over single gpu at 1920 x 1080 no flicker on tgp, or clouds... I don't ever use mirrors no gridlines when I zoom in or out on TGP Tgp set to 512 (not every frame) Thank you kind Sir, you have saved a lot of us some serious headache...
  11. Yea I know... I had it start from ramp and everything, the first time it didn't have the uncontrolled button for some reason... Either way I got that to work but the problem I am having is the start task is locking up my game... *edit* deleted screenshots, to save space* Here are a couple of screen shots... *edit* I took a screen shot of the wrong plane but they are both set up the same *2nd Edit* Since I made the mission in 1108 I had them set to delayed starting time... Well it locks up the game when it tries to start a group that doesnt exist yet....
  12. Need to sticky that ;) Thanks Ripcord... What is funny is Uncontrolled wasn't showing up as an option next to Hidden on Map, I went to make sure I had paint.net to edit a screen shot... When I went back to dcs all of a sudden it magically appeared from nowhere.. Not sure if it takes a minute or what but it was definitely weird.
  13. They could always play both sides of the fence... DCS MiG-31
  14. man with no SLI... i haven't a clue... If you have the time... try to take out one of your Gpu's like physically... I know it is a pain for just one game but it would at least start ruling things out...
  15. I don't know if you ever played the X series by egosoft... But perhaps a stand-alone "mod manager" would be helpful.
  16. Thanks for sharing that Jeff. I will definitely take a look at it... I think many of us envision that kind of engrossment in every mission that we play... I am thinking of adding desperation calls when they lose a unit, or when the ground fight just isn't going well for blue. This way the player not only knows he isn't doing well but also feels some motivation to help out his comrades.
  17. I started getting deep enough into it and I was starting to come to that realization. All it is, is what the mission editor loads. I work nights so I was messing around with my mission at work last night. You should have seen me jump out of my chair and fist pump like a Jersey Shore douche when I got that return to come back.... Like I read in one of your older posts you kind of have to just dive head-first into it. I was thinking though with those X and Y coordinates you could get the X, Y location of say 4 different triggers in a box and then for the X, Y of a unit either point them to load a script and set some kind of math.random and then use a range inside that box to make unit placement 100% random... If one was willing to do it right they could even set up the external script to exclude the x, y location of houses and dense trees. You can have the units you want but their location will be random. I am not quite sure what this server log is but I am going to DL your exporter, so hopefully it will answer some questions... I will get back with you when I know the right questions to ask ;)
  18. I take that back on that program I recommended... I played with it a little bit and it was a little buggy... But I definitely recommend getting the "lua for windows" http://code.google.com/p/luaforwindows/ it has a program in there called SciTE and it is very clean... Plus it has a Lua console built into it... I attached a picture of how you can load the lua mission script that you are working on and then fiddle with the outputs, so you know for sure that you don't make a mistake... The tables are pretty deep... Once again for anyone just starting out it is very helpful. In this picture I am getting the table location of the x, y coordinates for my Sa-11 so that I can link the table to the x, y coordinates of a trigger... That way if I ever move the unit the trigger moves with it... A very simple task but a beginning point. I may end up making a complete newbie guide to DCS scripting if I ever learn this all... :smartass:
  19. Hey speed I was just trying to DL this mission, link appears to be broken. You got it somewhere else?
  20. Yea I am just going through a book right now... I can definitely see where the IDE's fall short, it isn't like Visual Studio by any means, even following along in the book. Whenever they do a read.io for whatever reason this particular ide won't display the print function before it asks for the argument... I hear you talking about dumping alot, especially for the function pdf you are trying to create. I could of swore that you had a link to a dump script but I can't remember, how exactly are you doing that?
  21. You may be at a level where notepad++ is just easier for you... I found an IDE that for a newb like me might make it a bit easier to get into lua... First download "lua for windows" http://code.google.com/p/luaforwindows/ 2nd download IntelliJ Idea (community edition) from http://www.jetbrains.com/idea/download/index.html Then download the lua addon for Idea at http://plugins.intellij.net/plugin/?idea_ce&id=5055 and put it in JetBrains\IntelliJ IDEA Community Edition 10.5.1\plugins And last start Idea and there you go... There is a nice vid here to explain how to link the lua SDK into Idea It is pretty nice from a lua noob standpoint, with things like auto complete and what-not. With the right tools maybe even I will be a scripting genious like you Speed ;)
  22. I don't want to start a completely new thread, so I will hijack this one... I just want to thank the developers for really going above and beyond here. The customer relations is top-notch, in fact I would say a GAMING industry leader, not just in flight sims. This really is a great community full of members that are very quick to share their deep knowledge and more than willing to give guidance. So a big thanks to all of the people that make this happen!
  23. I have been putting it off... I might try to find a cheap ebook and go through it. Are there any good lua compilers? I know you mention notepad++ but for a lua newb it doesn't seem like the easiest way to learn. From what I have read it seems like a fairly easy language, you don't have to define variables before you use them, the same thing for arrays.
  24. Yea I just took a shower and was thinking about how you would go about it (yes I think about DCS in the shower). The only way I was thinking of was setting up like 20 little triggers areas right next to eachother and have them and the units constantly evaluated. Then set up just a crapload of triggers... If group (blue) in zone X and group (red) in zone Y then this sound If group (blue) in zone X and group (red) in zone Z then this sound If this member of group (blue) killed by (red) then this sound... So on and so forth... I was actually thinking one could completely replace JTAC with a new radio menu of ground forces radio, once you enter the "warzone" and the player is on the right channel he will hear radio chatter from all of the ground forces. Well more of a realistic JTAC than just random chatter. They could make their own desperate calls for air support... I just feel that the 9-line is great for new players and learning the sim but quickly looses it's engrossing feel pretty quickly. I am definitely going to play around with it... If anything it will broaden my horizon and make myself a better over-all mission designer, as I only have 3 weeks of DCS mission building under my belt...
