  1. I recommend checking out BigScreen Beyond, which is shipping to pre-orderers. That device has many attractive features, but also some disadvantages with regards to DCS; and I want to see a user performance review with DCS. Advantages include its comparatively tiny form factor, custom face gasket, tracking accuracy and latency, great mic, high native resolution and pancake lenses. Disadvantages include total cost (requires base stations for tracking), add-on audio, no eye tracking (or foviated rendering), some reported glare issues and delivery delay of few months for new orders. FOV is pretty good and It is a SteamVR device. You can find some reviews on YouTube.
  2. I prepared this guide for myself as I prefer it to OvGME. Hope it helps. Mod Manager Info.txt
  3. BSB discord, available by invitation after pre-order, is quite active. BSB had a huge number of day 1 orders, which have all been shipped. One user reported he is evaluating BSB with DCS, but I have yet to read a review of DCS performance by an actual end-user.
  4. The info available I find quite confusing. I THINK the situation, as reported by Valve Index users, is that non-WMR headsets, like BSB and Index, will run DCS-mt, but through SteamVR, rather than DCS OpenXR directly, which involves a small performance penalty. I am happy to be corrected.
  5. Here is info from BSB discord.
  6. For sure BSB requires base stations for tracking, so, I guess SteamVR required. I do not find info in the OpenXR topic that indicate only the bin/DCS.exe (and not the bin-mt/DCS.exe) will run with SteamVR+OpenXR. If your statement is correct, I guess that is a deal-killer.
  7. Headsets now shipping to early orderers. Should get first impressions in a few days.
  8. Directly edit the view angles in Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Config\View\SnapViews.lua. F/A-18C views start at about line 2450. Find the line [13] = {--default view And set viewAngle as deired. Mine is at 70. You can also experiment with other parameters.
  9. Seems Shiftall is having issues with the MeganeX. Price: TBD. Sale Date: TBD. Wonder if it will ever hit the marketplace.
  10. IMO the form factor, micro-OLED screens, pancake lenses, custom face gasket, acceptable horizontal FOV (I am not put off by the vertical FOV), all sound very attractive. Interested to see reviews of actual production units, especially with regard to reported glare and heat. I already have audio, controllers and base stations.
  11. Select WPDSG to WP on HSI, then refine ATFLIR cursor to moving target and designate in Ptrack. Switch SOI to AGM-65 video and the weapon, as well as HUD TGP LOS indicator remain caged to the TGT WP instead slaved to the TGP designated moving target. DCS 2.8.6.41363. Windows 11. Never mind. Figured it out. Pilot error.
  12. Still have not solved this issue. I can not get recommended script to work for a human pilot's AI wingman, I think because the wingman does not really follow a flightplan. They follow lead and execute menu-driven instructions. Another complicating issue is that WWII aircraft have only imprecise methods to follow a flightplan, like dead reckoning and visual recognition of landmarks. So I believe that with current DCS processes my quest is mission impossible.
  13. Well, I certainly was not expecting such a complex script would be needed for a simple task. Most all my scripting has been Moose, so will take me a bit of study to parse this out. TYVM for the input.
  14. Would appreciate your guidance here. I am trying to get P-51 wingman to rearm/refuel. I set flight path to WP with task RearmRefuel, 5 min on ground, then additional waypoints. I land, taxi to apron. --2 lands, parks, shuts down. He does not exit airplane. I rearm/refuel, takeoff. But after 15 min. --2 still sitting, engine off, not rearmed.
  15. Tried that, but was probably not patient enough. I will give it another go. Tx.
  16. Denied access to one's modules offline is a relatively recent "feature". C'mon, ED!
  17. DCSW 2.8.5.40170. I have a similar issue. If I start DCS and directly start a P-51D-30 mission, only the default key commands load -- none of the joystick commands. No amount of controls applet manipulation, other than loading them from a saved file, restores the joystick assignments. If I start DCS and first go to the DCS config controls applet, all the key and joystick command assignments are present and I can then load a mission and fly it normally. A full repair made no change to the behavior. I must always check for controls joystick assignments prior to flying.
  18. Has anyone forced an AI wingman to human pilot rearm/refuel? if so, how?
  19. Seems these devices would encumber using the HOTAS.
  20. DCS 2.8.5.40170 ME. I select the main tool (line), type, hold left click and drag, but nothing shows on the map. The object is created according to the new object name in the figures box. It has color, thickness, etc, but remains invisible. Never mind. Map Options/Drawings.
  21. Yep. That did it. TYVM.
  22. I recently began flying the P-51D after a few year's absence and am resurrecting some old missions from 2.4-2.5 era. After a few updates and saving under 2.8 mission editor they run quite well, EXCEPT I can not get the comms menu system (not easy comms) to display or function at all. Double-checked the assign keystrokes, radio freqs and channels. Any other reason the comms menu would not display, other than mission dementia?
  23. How does one get DCS 2.8 to run in windowed mode?
  24. To assist others, as well as myself, to use this very useful program, I created my own personal User Guide. I do not claim that it covers all possible use conditions. Note that V1.08 renamed Context to Modding Hub and Target Locations to Channel. First download and install Open Mod Manger. Then.... In the main Open Mod Manager (OMM) menu File\New\Modding Hub (IMO a more descriptive term would be Target Program you want to modify). Enter the path to the game/program to be modified, i.e. receive the mods. Select the desired Modding Hub from the title block below the OMM menu. OMM main menu Edit\Channel\Properties: Create a Channel (path) to one or more folders within the Target Program (Modding Hub) that will be modded; AND specify the Destination Library folder (where the mod packages you will create for the Channel will be stored). IMPORTANT. Organize the mods you want OMM to install. You will have to specify within OMM the path to the Target Program folders you wish to modify in one of two ways: 1. The Channels you create can include the path, or 2. Include the path in the folder on your PC where you organize the mod files. EXAMPLE: To add a vehicle to DCS Open Beta, create Channel "Saved Games\DCS.openbeta" then create a folder anywhere on your PC "MyMods\Mods\Tech\VehicleModFolder" where the folder MyMods contains the DCS.Openbeta path to the folder where the "VehicleModFiles" will be installed. Note that the Tech folder can contain multiple individual mod folders, several different vehicles for example. The Mods\Tech path could also have been included in the Channel definition instead of the MyMods folder. The MyMods folder can be archived in a .zip file if desired. After completing these steps for a given program you should rarely need to repeat or alter them. You can then create OMM mod packages whenever you need them. Under the Library tab select the desired Target Program Channel/folder that you want to modify. Under Tools menu select Package Editor. If the PC mod folder (MyMods) has not been zipped, select radio button Create from folder content, then navigate to the MyMods folder using the Browse window. If the MyMods folder is zipped, select Edit/Create from existing package. Name the mod package whatever you want. All the files in the MyMods folder will display in the Package Content window. Verify the path is correct. Now the tricky part. The Destination folder is Destination Library where the Package being created will be stored (NOT the Target Program installation location). This folder was specified when creating the Channel. If desired select a Mod Category and enter a description. Save the package BEFORE closing. It will display in the large package window, if created successfully. Maybe others can find this useful and/or improve on it.
  25. Any way in the P-51 to know the remaining bullets, other than being aware of the time the trigger is pressed?
