  1. Raf Air have several squadrons. They fly the A10, AV-8B , F16, F14 and the F/A18.

We run joint ops nights but all squadrons run training and mission nights.

Joint ops usually run about once a month.
We have just run a superb multi squadron mission, that was planned by a Raptor of CAW (Carrier Air Wing) a squadron within the RAF AIR umbrella. The mission ran with 27 participating.

I fly with 41f, one of the the two FA18 squadrons within RAF Air, we fly low level using RAF procedures from the tail end of the cold war. This makes for thrilling and entertaining missions, one of our members created a video explaining how we run a mission.

  3. Listen to Carrier Pilot by Norman Hanson on Audible. https://www.audible.co.uk/pd/B073VTJJTG?source_code=ORGOR69210072400FU

Very interesting, I didn't realise that the US navy weren't keen, and farmed it off to the Marines for land based ops and the Royal Navy, that would accept anything that was just about carrier capable.

It's a great book that I read a few years ago, and the Audible version is well narrated and certainly gives you a feel for the time.

It's also interesting how he describes the sensitivity of the "flight model" and how in 3 days they'd crashed 3 and killed one pilot.

  4. £200, but I've got a lot of switches there.

Being able to configure it to what you want is pure genius. Every button box I looked at was just poorly laid out for what I wanted.

You can set the switches to different orientations, if you look I have the centre at 90 degrees, for the engine crank.

  5. I have just put this one together.
Using it to sit behind my throttle and I believe it has plenty of utility for various planes.
So simple to put together. I put it together while the kettle boiled for a cup of tea. It's that quick!

    It's really good.

I enjoy flying the huey without any force trim (unless shooting at stuff). I'm certainly not saying the below settings are accurate to the huey, but just how i enjoy them

Joystick - I use some damper, a tiny bit of centre spring to stop the stick drifting when it's tilted right over. I add some Main Rotor shake, vortex ring state shake and translational lift shake.

Rudder and Collective -  I add damping, Main Rotor shake, some vortex ring state shake and translational lift shake. I don't use any force trim on these at all.

p.s   to disable force trim on the rudders and pedals, I need to use the ffbeast "Direct X effect"  parameters turned down, otherwise their force trim turns on along with the joystick, when turning it on via the switch on the huey centre console.

I've been using your moza profile, cheers.

  7. Hi,
I use a headphones and a Quest pro, but only want to hear all DCS audio through the headphones

The headphones are set to main audio, and I hear engine noises and SRS perfectly through these, but not aircraft systems.
However I hear AI radio, and aircraft system sounds, 9x Growl, Bitching Betty etc. through the Quest pro.

I cannot figure how to change this. The headphones are set to default in Windows 11.

I have done a repair in windows, I have hear like in helmet checked, ( but it doesn't make a difference), headphones set as main audio and set to stereo.

    Cheers

I am not sure about FBW aircraft, but older aircraft which the controls connected more directly to the control surfaces would theoretically feel like what @propeler described above.

One thing to note, some time, it is more about the software which controls the feedback to the base than the physical gears and motors. Yes, bases have different force output, but how they react to the state the aircraft depending on the settings which, in turn, could be tuned to your liking. If one thinks the F-16C behaviour is too boring and stiff (as per in Moza AB9), one can always change the way the base behave, say, more feedback when the weapon is fired, feeling more the pressure of control surfaces, or even make the stick movements as per in other "normal" planes (as per in Rhino).

As most of us don't have real life experience, it would be easy to add effects and forces that aren't realistic. I'm not one to say you shouldn't do this, we're mostly middle aged men sat in our office / study trying to have fun after all.

That's what's so great about these sticks you can have it however you like, personally I'm after a close representation of the real thing, without the extra bits.

That's 37 pounds over 5 inches of travel (7.4 lb/in) plus 3 pounds of breakout+friction. In roll, it's lighter at about 3.7 lb/in over 3 inches of travel plus 2 pounds of breakout+friction (a little over 13 pounds total). Here is writeup about forces

That's superb and very informative, thankyou very much.

The breakout force is interesting, I shall stiffen it up and check the critical dampening.

    Thanks again.

  10. As someone that has just bought a FFB Base, I'm looking for a description of how it should feel.

I mainly fly the FA18, but also the huey and spitfire.

For instance, is the joystick loose in the 18 when started but not moving, how stiff do the controls get when pulling G? Should there be much spring?

In the Spit when cold, is everything balanced and so easy to move, or can you feel resistance in the linkages?

The huey must be stiff as board before all the hydraulics are working, but in flight I believe the controls are light as a feather, but maybe I'm wrong.

Never having flown anything in real life, I can only use my imagination, but I know some of you are GA pilots and have more of an idea with experience.

There's so much info on brands of bases but no real descriptions of what the controls should feel like.

    Cheers
