  1. Also unable to install

Either it isn't working or I'm not doing it correctly. Since there's NO instructions on exactly how to install campaign module, not sure what is wrong. Bought the Enemy Within 3.0, says I can install in Module Manager. Open that up and scroll to the campaign, the only button is "BUY" and when pressing that, DCS drops to desktop with open folder of DCS....

    What next?

update: apparently needed update from ....2.5.4.25 to 2.5.4.26, though not mentioned on campaign page in shop, which says 2.5.4+ needed.

  2. Meh, there is one drawback in getting this campaign in the stock game rather than in the user files download section: I can't give it a thousand thumbs up in the form of 5 big fat stars... Just finished it today, I loved it! Thanks ;-)

Ah, that explains; didn't remember ever downloading this, but it was there in the campaign list. Didn't realize it was included in update.

So far, really liking it (4 missions so far.)

  3. Was trying a simple mission, tried launching a 4-ship F14As from carrier. They didn't even make it from parking due to crashing into each other. Anyway to get that kind of flight off the deck? Wanted to have a 2-ship launch from 'runway' and another 4 from parking hot. but then they blew up.

  4. Yes you can :)

In the control options go to your axis setup and there is a zoom somewhere. Map it to the slider axis and you're good to go :)

Tried that. I think. Found the option, tried to assign axis, but it wasn't 'selectable' to assign.

Downloaded and read through the "CTS" stuff...thought it would be simple, but so far, just messes everything up.

The 'default' method worked, but not that slider, so tried to find something to work. Not nearly as simple as the old Foxy throttle and joystick macros.

  5. Mine broke several years ago. Emailed TM, they sent me a replacement part. Used it a few more years. Sadly, tried hooking it back up a few month ago and I couldn't get it to work.

I just connected a new Warthog, and am now looking how to set it up properly. Mostly, I'm trying to see if I can use the INC/DEC slider for zoom...

  6. This lua change works REALLY well. Had a string of tanks move towards each other in trees. They drove past, even around each other in order to pass, without firing a shot.

Moved both groups out of the trees and they engaged normally.

So, don't try to make any engagements in trees, and you should be good. Just make sure to move forces out of the trees if you want them to engage anything.

  7. There were a few CA missions I've downloaded that were pretty fun. Made one myself. Been a while, though.

My ONE complaint about CA was the fact that I could not see through trees but all enemies could. If creating/playing a mission, a city scape with lots of buildings is better than open/forest area.

Just saw the post below about editing the lua script to enable blocking of LOS through tree 'blocks'...gonna have to try that, soon.

  8. Use guns for first targets. at 2nd target, find all the soldiers and put bomb right between them then use guns for trucks. For bridge, go HIGH to avoid ZSU and use LGB on bridge. For tanks, use Mav for SAM then guns on tanks. For convoy, use Mavs to stop and finish with guns. USE WINGMAN as much as possible. Better he runs out of ammo before you do.

  9. What I started doing in blueflag is coming in super low (advice from some other A-10C pilots on there)... this way they often don't/can't fire at you and if they do... you can just drive the missile into the ground by nosing down.

This can work, sometimes. There was an A10C mission, something about river bunkers (forget actual name) that had a nasty SAM system a few miles north of the river (forget actual system, as well.) Died too many times to count flying that one. What I ended up doing was at start of mission, use TGP to locate that SAM, and then mark it. I then dove to the deck and stayed as low as possible without hitting buldings/trees, and made a beeline for the SAM. When I was close enough I popped up and launched a Mav at it. It still launched at me, but I did get the radar so it couldn't launch any more. Then went back and took out the river bunkers :)

  10. Yeah! Let me say just one word in regards to manuals: Microprose! ;)

Still have my F3 Gold edition on the shelf. Those were some hefty manuals.

On a side note, I printed a b/w version of the Jane's longbow Manual at a previous work place. Took a while as I printed maybe 20-30 pages at a time.Still have that here on the shelf as well.

  11. Probably because it's harder that way. With hud, really it's just about placing VV to -3 degrees and you've done the job.

I watched the video, few tips:

You can turn off bipping sound as soon as you identify a navaid (there should be a red flag at HSI if you loose signal, so there's no point listening that annoying sound).

You can practice without flight director (yellow ADI steering bars) for pure raw data ILS.

You should never go under GS, that's an instant failure at instrument rating exam, and for a good reason: you can kill yourself.

Multiply your ground speed with 5.4 and you will get rate of descend you should fly to stay on 3* glide slope.

Try to achieve landing configuration at or above 1000ft AGL.

You can practice localizer approach only, which is useful when ED breaks glide slopes in some update :D. With every nautical mile you should be 300ft lower. You can land that way in 0 visibilitiy (not legal though)

I always thought opposite with regard to GS; if I were too high, I'd have to push hard DOWN to reach slope. Being below (mind you, I wasn't THAT low), I'd intercept then ease down into it. As to sounds, I REALLY didn't mind them, at the time, since I was more concerned with keeping the ILS bars aligned as best I could, while moderating speed to keep descent. As I've learned, keep nose up but use throttle to move VVI up/down.

It's been a long while. This thread makes me want to practice some more. :)

  12. Now when you say that the ATC is rudimentary are you saying that it is not simulated well? This is my first flight sim so in regards to an ATC I am not sure what to expect.

It is pretty basic in DCS. MS flight sim would be way more accurate, though I don't know from direct experience.

  13. Is there a reason you would have the HUD off?

to be pure instrument landing only. I was literally landing looking down at instruments only: ILS for direction and glideslope, VVI for descent speed. HSI for direction of runway, etc. As basic as it gets. Well, without ILS would be even more basic, but then I don't think you could even land.
