  1. Yep, you are right about it being achieved with the other switches and that is how I have it set up. It is possible but not optimal in my opinion. A three way boat switch is immediately easy to tell what position/mode it is in by feel. The flagship modules for DCS all have three way switches on the throttle; Viper, Hog, Hornet (I think). Seems like incorporating at least one on the throttle itself and a couple on the base wouldn't be a bad thing.
  2. Three way switches like the boat switch on the hog throttle or the three way switches like on the base of the hog throttle. There are a number of aircraft that have three way switches like the viper with the dogfight/missile override, auto pilot modes, etc..or like the boat switch for FLIR modes in the Hog. Also an actual analogue rotary axis for your thumb instead of the rotating one that activates via button actions. Good for proper antenna elevation in the viper. The CM3 throttle is excellent but there is some room for improvement.
  3. This is one of these quality of life features that seems like it would be easy to implement. I cannot understand why this is not an option yet.
  4. Without any mods installed, I did not have that file in my folder and had to create it. You may have to do the same.
  5. Disable track recordings. Add disable_write_track = true to your autoexec.cfg in Users\<name>\Saved Games\DCS\Config
  6. Holy crap, I just deleted 74 gigs worth of track files dating back to when I built my PC in 2019. I totally forgot that tracks were written for multiplayer. This should be a setting in the menus to disable or at least indicate somewhere how much space track files are using up as it could be easily overlooked.
  7. I just upgraded from 32 to 64 and it was worth it. In Syria on a heavily populated server, I’m seeing up to 49 gigs being used. All my settings are maxed out. I would like to know if it is expected/normal for DCS to use almost 50 gigs of RAM. Was looking at Riva Tuner overlay which is total system usage, not specific to apps.
  8. Yeah this happened to my original R3. I had to send it back to real simulator. I forgot what it cost to fix it. I can’t live without the FSSB so I ordered an R3 Lighting while they were repairing it. Now I have a backup in case it happens again.
  9. I second this. Just reformatted PC and need this mission again. Also would be nice to get this on the PG map. The Caucasus map gets really old.
  10. I have this problem and what solves it for me is clean installing Nvidia drivers and not rebooting. Once the system reboots, my Oculus will have the issue. I have no idea why but that is what happens.
  11. Hmm, didn’t think about that. I will test that out. Thanks. Still wish I didn’t have to do stuff like that in VR though.
  12. I have but I find it to be extremely disorienting. That’s not to say the OP will but I’m just relaying my experience.
  13. OP, here are my two cents. I have the Oculus and the Vive. I prefer the Oculus for a variety of reasons. VR is a game changer for sims and the immersion cannot be beat, I think everybody agrees on that. With that said, I use it maybe 20% of the time and my 1440p monitor the remaining 80%. I cannot acceptably make out certain gauges and objects in VR, unless PD is set extremely high. My personal preference is clarity over immersion. Flight sims are all about sacrifices, from within the sim and how things are simulated to your actual physical setup. At the present, I am not willing to make the visual sacrifices in VR for immersion’s sake. Still, VR is an amazing experience. I hate going back to TrackIR after using my Oculus for a while. At the same time, it is a relief that I’m back to the 2D clarity. It’s also nice to be able to watch TV in the background, which I can’t do with a VR headset. Ultimately, you should experience VR but whether or not you think the trade-offs are worth it (if you think there are any), are up to you. Anyways, those are my thoughts. Also, you should have a powerful rig to enjoy VR if you go that route.
  14. The Obutto cockpit is one of the best purchases I've ever made. If you have the space, I'd recommend it. In my 700 square foot apartment, it takes up a lot of space. Worth it though. I set it up so I can watch TV in the background while on long flights. It took me a ridiculous 14 hours to put it together when I got it but that is because I'm not good at building things other than computers. It can take a while though.
  15. You can also upgrade the WH stick to a force sensing stick. The less moving parts the better. I had the stiction problem among other issues with the one I got in 2011, that’s why I own a couple warthogs. Anyways, once I upgraded my WH stick to force sensing so there is no movement, the stick has worked wonders. So that is an option. It’s pretty expensive though.
  16. I use it for all aircraft. I feel a side stick is the modern cockpit configuration. I have it setup as a side stick on my Obutto cockpit and have an arm rest like in an aircraft with a side stick. It was odd at first getting used to flying helicopters but then it becomes natural. As I mentioned before, the stick doesn’t really move at all so there is almost no wear on parts. No worrying about having to lubricate a moving gimbal.
  17. This is exciting. I have an FSSB R3 and it’s one of the best purchases I’ve made. Fewer moving parts the better. I just received the angle adapter and it made a surprising difference in the feel of the stick. Much better and natural feeling. Anyways, Real Simulator puts out solid products and I’ll buy almost anything they sell. I just wish they would hire a dedicated translator. It’s hard to understand them sometimes.
  18. I just want to chime in and say I just noticed this as well. I needed to refresh my memory on weapons employment and went to try this mission and you start with another helicopter right on top of you.
  19. So I have been playing DCS since I discovered it in early 2011. Back then I thought it was the most advanced sim out there (it still is) but over the past couple of years it has become a bit stale. I'm not hating on DCS, this is just some things that I would love to see. While I don't expect any of this, I can dream, right? My first thought is that it feels like DCS is regressing in technology a bit. We are getting a lot of older aircraft. I get that older aircraft has much more information available to the public but I don't think lack of some information to be a barrier to adding additional aircraft. I feel like the A-10C or the Mirage is the most advanced aircraft we have in the sim and we seem to get modules that have older aircraft. Personally, I cannot bring myself to fly Russian/Eastern Bloc aircraft. It just feels unfamiliar and foreign to me. Anyways, that is a me problem. My point is that I'm hoping we can get some more modern aircraft like the AH-64 Apache since we have the KA-50. I realize that is a two seater but I'm sure the Eagle Dynamics guys can come up with a solution, they are smart. Tying into additional aircraft, I'm hoping for some newer technologies to be incorporated. I really wish we had an [American] aircraft that has HMCS support. For me that is huge. A-10C's even have helmet displays now days. I'd like to think it would be something that could be added to DCS some day. I also would like to see an aircraft that is fly-by-wire using a force sensing side-stick. I modded my Warthog to be force sensing with the FSSB R3 and I just love the modern nature of a side-stick. If the F-16 Block 52 or something was added to the sim we would have both HMCS and an aircraft with a fly-by-wire side-stick; two things I'm dying for. I am a realist, I definitely don't expect any of this or at least not within the next five years but one can wish. TL;DR: More modern [u.S.] aircraft, aircraft with HMCS support, aircraft that utilizes a side-stick. Other wishlist items: More realistic and natural sounding radio communications (help the world feel more alive) Multiplayer VOIP support Dynamic campaign (yes, I have seen all the discussions, I'm just putting in my vote for this) Maybe be able to play as AWACS Default controller templates for popular joysticks; for instance, the HOTAS Warthog is extremely popular. A default controller mapping on each new module specific to this stick and throttle would be nice. If not mapping for us, at least identify in the interface or manual what will be the most important controls to have mapped to a controller are. I don't buy a lot of modules because trying to figure out which functions are most important to have mapped to controllers is a major pain. A built-in performance benchmark (especially useful for VR) Some sort of DTC function for supported aircraft. I'd like to be able to pre-load countermeasure programs and other items so I don't have to set them every time in cockpit. Ability to save mid-mission Change video options in-mission
  20. I was going to create a new thread but I did a quick search for "alive" and this thread popped up with my long standing concern about DCS. The DCS world feels pretty barren and sterile. It is a fantastic sim and it does many things very well but it is lacking life. There isn't much radio chatter and the radio chatter that is there is very stiff and cookie cutter sounding. I've watched so many videos of pilots in action and there is just something missing in DCS. I feel like all voice acting needs an overhaul and radio sounds need to be improved. It's hard to explain. It simply doesn't feel like you are part of a bigger world with other things happening around you. What things that do happen around you feel very robotic in nature. It is probably a sin to mention it on here but I feel like the other F-16 sim that shall not be named does it better and makes the world feel more alive. Yes some of it is pretty cheesy and it is an old sim but it generally isn't repetitive and feels random like you are part of a larger world. I don't expect DCS to get any significant changes like this but it sure would be nice to add that extra touch of authenticity. I constantly find myself going back to the other sim because I need a dynamic world that feels alive. Playing DCS for too long begins to feel like FSX/P3D with weapons. Still, I love DCS and it is my favorite sim.
  21. Just wanted to chime in here. Ever since the last update I have no gun effects. I have some effects like AoA and chaff/flare but not any others I noticed. Using buttkicker.
  22. I had this happen. Tightened the screws and it helped for about a month. Once I couldn't tighten it anymore I contacted Thrustmaster to see if I could get a replacement stick. Only the stick and nothing else. You can buy a replacement stick for $100. It was worth it since the buttons on my old stick had gotten soft. Now that I see these replacement parts, I think I'm going to buy one to make it stronger and preempt any issues. I just hate taking apart Thrustmater stuff; wires are so fragile. Quick question; would the 13 degree angled one accurately reflect a side-stick F-16? I have the FSSB setup as a side stick in my Obutto.
  23. I'm having the same issue with the menu disappearing after clicking ok while in VR. It just goes to the hangar view with no menu. Have to kill app as well.
  24. I just set this up tonight and I'm having a hard time balancing sounds. The setup was a pain for me. I have the Soundblaster Zxr and use Sennheiser HD800 headphones with it. The headphone out on the Zxr is a 1/4" plug versus a 3.5mm so I needed an adapter to get that plugged in. Then I needed another adapter so I could plug in my HD800 1/4" plug into the mini output on the splitter. Luckily over the years I have collected a lot of that stuff. So, I am having a tough time tweaking this thing without going to clipping territory. The GAU sounds fantastic but other sounds are weak. When flying the F-15 I want to feel the AB kick in and know when its on by a nice rumble. So that required me to turn up the volume on the amp. Well I got insta-killed in single-player and it immediately put me to outside view and I was absolutely blasted by the kicker and it went to clipping heaven. Is there any way to tweak specific sounds like external afterburner, mainly?
  25. I'm a little late to the game on this but I noticed this about a month or so ago. I have to reverse it. No big deal really.
