  1. AI aircraft completing their assigned tasks will return to land on a carrier. AI aircraft returning to carrier of their own accord due to bingo fuel fly a heading to the pattern entry point, then continue on that heading without entering the pattern. The simple mission I posted here demonstrates the issue:
  2. Ah.... till now I hadn't realized you could but a stop condition on an enroute task like CAP. It looks like this is going to mostly solve my problem. Thanks. Though I'd certainly say the automatic RTB for carrier based aircraft needs some work on ED's side.
  3. I was able to reproduce the problem on the attached very simple mission. The problem seems to happen only if the aircraft decides on its own to RTB due to bingo fuel. In the attached example I have two groups: Group 1: "Plenty of gas" - this group flies out to waypoint 1 and orbits for 15 minutes then RTB's. They are able to land normally, as expected. Group 2: "Low gas" - this group flies out to waypoint 1 and orbits indefinitely, RTBing of their own accord. This group flies towards the carrier pattern entry point, but then continues out to sea and dies. In spite of my OP subject heading, I also confirmed this happens with Nimitz and Tomcats as well and I'd guess all other CV based aircraft. It does NOT happen for shore-based aircraft. I welcome any clever workarounds. It seems I need to get my CV based aircraft RTBing before they hit bingo fuel but I can't predict how much fuel they'll use up dogfighting. RTB_problem.miz
  4. I'm working on a mission where opposing (super)carrier air wings go at each other. The Blue team works fine. AI aircraft launch, fly their CAP missions, fight as necessary, then RTB to their ships. The Red team Su-33's, however, after fighting will only fly vaguely back towards their carriers then just head out to sea till they run out of gas and die. This is frustrating because I'm intending to use the warehousing system to track how many aircraft are available as reinforcements, so I need them to land and de-spawn. On a simplified mission they behave as expected, but with everything going onthey seem to prefer to fly off into the sunset and die, making this tough to diagnose. Any suggestions? Things I've tried: 1. Added a landing waypoint at their ship rather than letting them decide where to RTB. No dice. 2. Thinking maybe they're so low on fuel they can't fly a landing pattern I tried launching them with full tanks (which severely limits the rate the kuznetsov can launch aicraft since that violates the weight limits for the forward ski jump spots). No dice. 3. Thinking maybe they're so low on fuel they can't fly a landing pattern, I provided a recovery tanker. No dice. 4. The red fleet is a little closer to the action than blue. Thinking maybe the Su-33's can't get fully disengaged I backed the fleet up quite a bit. No dice.
  5. Try though I did, I've never found any news on how the Sung Ho vs. Heron's AI fight went. Mover made noises like it'd be streamed or broadcast elsehow. Did that ever happen? Who won? Can we watch it somewhere?
  6. Is ED teasing a new game via the sunset? ;)
  7. A couple rules questions - 1. If one pilot crashes is that a victory for the other guy or a draw? 2. If you say "draw" to #1 what happens if one pilot in a losing fight crashes deliberately to force a draw? 3. If you splash the other guy, run out of fuel, but still stick the landing, is that a victory?

  9. Suppose you had a friend you're trying to get into DCS, and this friend has VR (Vive) and a HOTAS, but his machine just doesn't have the horsepower for a smooth-enough DCS VR experience, and TrackIR seems to be out of stock. Might'n it be possible to render the game in VR in 2D for a dramatic increase in framerate at the cost of 3D? Any way to do this? (I half-ass googled it but couldn't find anything. Nor did I see any obvious way to do this in the SteamVR settings) Stay healthy all.
  10. The rotaries on my throttle have gradually gotten more ratty over the years. By ratty, I mean there's a decent about of noise in the signal and on my zoom access it's now driving me crazy. Around center I use a dead zone to solve it. I'm thinking what needs to happen is I need to take the thing apart and clean out the rheostat slash potentiometer slash whatever is in there. Anyone taken one of these apart? Any words of caution? Anyone have a better fix idea? Anyone think my fix won't work? (I'd really like it if you could just low-pass filter the signal coming from the rotaries, but I suppose that's too much to ask for a driver for a discontinued HOTAS).
  11. I'd just like to add my voice to the choir by saying I'm willing to pay extra if DCS supports Oculus Rift. That is all.
  12. Although I would personally enjoy a simulator built around something other than a fighter aircraft or attack helicopter (both of which I feel like have been done to death), I don't feel like market for such a product is very large. I think it needs to be something that's very "maneuvery", and probably it needs to be able to pew-pew. This rules out things like the SR-71 (challenging, but not very "maneuvery" flying) or SAR helicopters (not pew-pewy), which would be great fun for some of us, but not many others. With that in mind, I'd like to humbly suggest the B-1B might make an excellent subject for the next DCS entry. Challenging, high-speed, nap-of-the-earth flying coupled with an awful lot of destructive potential. It'd also be a pretty unique sim experience.
