  1. Listen HB, I've been waiting for some planes for literal decades. Just get it right and then release. Anyone left of the DCS faithful that still yells, 'just release it and fix it later,' is a fool. Still waiting for Eurofighter, BTW (and I'll keep waiting as long as I keep breathing).
  2. Yeah, finding one is going to be tough. As I said, they didn't make them for very long. They released with great hype, and fell very flat. I used mine for decades (until just last year), and got good enough to use it easily for general aviation. Most people, though, got the stick, said, "I can't get this to work, it sucks!" and that was pretty much the end. I took a LOT of practice, and folks just didn't want to put in the time. The simple fact that mine is still in perfect (mostly perfect, the throttle sometimes gives me static) working order after hundreds of hours of flight is a testament to how well built the HOTAS is. Still, with that said, it's still very challenging as a combat stick.
  3. This topic reminds me so much of the afterburner noise purist v feedback argument. Some say, "no way, there's no such switch it the real bird, so suck it up," while others say, "this isn't a real bird, let's have some leeway here." The purist argument is another all-or-nothing my way or the highway approach. There is no actual reason that both camps can't have what they want. Want a trim reset? Sure, here it is, but you get to figure out how you want to handle your controls snapping to center. Don't want a trim reset? Fine, don't map it. Easy. Personally I would like a midway solution where trim reset sets a new trim to the point you're controls are physically set. That way I could kick it some rotation, throw the stick to where I want and then tap the button, and a new position is born. I'm not married to that, however, and will work with whatever ED and the community think works best. My final thought to all of you fellow simmers is that more options are always better than fewer; just pick the ones that work best for your rig and/or skill level.
  4. Umm.... Maybe I'm just dense, but I don't get it. The TEDAC RHG Sight Select Switch has no "push" since it's just a 4 way hat. Push it what direction with what effect? Clarify please...
  5. You can add me to the list for a 1:1 F16 throttle, but for the stick? Be careful what you wish for. I don't know if you've ever used one, but I have a Saitek X65 F. It's a beautiful stick, very precise, and if you dig hard enough, you can still get the Win 10 beta drivers to make it work. Despite using that stick for nearly 20 years exclusively, it was still extremely hard to use in combat. You can set 4 pressure profiles, but once you need to do things without concentrating on the force you are using, even a small miscalculation causes over or under control. Add to that that I had to move all the controls that require precise deployment (e.g. the trigger, and weapon release) onto the throttle quadrant, because even the act of squeezing the trigger would command a change in flight direction, causing frustrating misses. As far as that goes, even the early Viper pilots hated the force only stick, and they finally designed a small amount of physical deflection for the stick. If you want to try the force sensing stick, you might be able to find a Saitek stick out there; They didn't make them very long, and they weren't very popular, so you may be able to get one on E-Bay or something. Good luck and happy flying!
  6. "Since the startup panel itself is an add-on to the throttle box, they could make different startup panels (like for e.g. F-16)" This is quite true, and they could probably get it to work, but if you look at the throttle in the F-16, you'll notice that the grip is connected to the armature by a long curved arm, and some of the controls are directly under the throttle. To do this with the Taurus (I'd get another anyway, as my setup is designed so that I can just drop a new box into it), they would have to put the grip on a bit of an extension, and I wonder if the torque on the dual throttles might cause some mechanical stress. Anyway, with or without a dedicated single axis throttle I'll have it. Cheers
  7. "...and yes, there are plans for a Taurus kit" That is a plus, but to be honest, I would rather have a new high fidelity single throttle (with F16 start up panel) than a kit to turn the Taurus into a single throttle. Any possibility of that in the near future?
  8. This really is some thread. If there actually were documentation for SimApp Pro (which there certainly is not), I doubt that some of the above posters would not be able to read it (they can't seem to understand the simple question at the start of this thread). That said, the virtual mapping is the functionality that needs to be used here, but is a problem for me from the start, because it requires yet another application (vJoy) which I can't get to work at all, and documentation for this is just as FUBAR. In the end, Winwing's hardware is top shelf, and I'll be getting more pieces as they roll out, but they might consider hiring someone to actually finish SimApp Pro (which seems to have some real promise) before losing return custom from users that love the hardware but are frustrated by the constants of a poor software interface. (/rant off)
  9. I hesitate to add anything to the food fight that this thread seems to have become, but I guess I'll just bite the bullet. No doubt flames will follow me, but oh well. I have had similar issues with Alyx. It usually happened after trying to load a save while in game. Hit load, and bang, the headset (G2 Reverb) goes black, SteamVR keeps running, the game mirror on the monitor keeps going. Now, this is not the same game, and I don't promise that this work around will help. In fact, it may have been suggested already, but I just don't have the heart to read through this whole ridiculous argument. Folks that have had this problem with Alyx, myself included greatly reduced, not eliminated, this behavior by disabling Steam Home in settings, and reducing the SteamVR menu resolution to medium or low. This is a crap workaround for a problem that probably exists inside SteamVR, or more likely WMR or SteamVR. At some point a buffer probably fills up and the HMD crashes. I sincerely hope this helps someone. As for the rest, a little chill before arguing down parallel lines about things that have nothing to do with the original problem might solve the seven page bitch-festing.
  10. Vsync fast and off are basically the same thing. With fast on, frames beyond the speed of your monitor are drawn internally, but not displayed so that you don't have tearing. I find that fast has the obnoxious tendency to introduce a visual stutter when running right around the refresh rate of the monitor.
  11. Absolutely true. The frustrating thing about this "feature" is that I can't imagine any reason modifications to the lighting parameters couldn't be passed thru the IC. I really like DCS, as evidenced from the fact that I started buying this product when it first started, and have virtually every combat mod, but sometimes there really is some amateurish coding going on. Just looking at the way lighting is assigned for the MFDs shows that this resource should have been rewritten a decade ago. It's just a case of old code not keeping up with new tech.
  12. This "real" versus "feedback" sound issue comes up all the time. Neither viewpoint is wrong; some folks want a studio sound cockpit, while others, very reasonably, point out that they can't feel the real plane, (I'm looking at you, CAP) and so need that extra "fake" sound to fly right. Maybe what the sim needs is a separate feedback sound channel with a checkbox in special options so everyone is happy. :)
  13. Exactly right! Also the, "Module not responding..." option. :joystick: If they wanted to do it right, they could hire a whole firm to manage the forum progress bars! Jobs Jobs Jobs
  14. I get the sentiment of the original post, and, to be fair, software developers are responsible for it. If they had never invented the progress bar, folks like me, that come from the time when you loaded software from a cassette, then floppy disks, would never ask about progress. :D I don't think it unreasonable to have a thread called "Super Carrier Progress Bar" and have posts like: Finished Green Shirt animations today! Now back to work... Just like the progress bar we know and love tells us what the game is currently loading. It doesn't really mean anything to us, but it makes us feel like the game knows what it's doing and it's working away at it. I know, devs, it's not fair, but you guys invented that dratted progress bar, so :P
  15. This is quite a thread, very good topic. Although I have the Spit (just got it) I haven't had time to try to crash it yet, so I have to say the 109 and P51 tie for first for me, not for the same reason. The bounce problem on the mustang gets me; I often wreak the prop on second contact. The 109 just veers off the runway without a perfect touchdown. Jet-wise, I have to agree with the crowd; the Mig 21 is the hardest to land right. I usually walk away, but losing sight of the ground means I land long much of the time, and they have to tow me out of the mud at the end of the runway. Chopper vs Plane reminds me of a cartoon I saw as a kid at the SAR museum in Albuquerque. Split screen: Fighter pilot looks like Tom Cruise in Aviators with a flowing scarf and a girl on each arm. Copper pilot has 3 cigarettes dangling, a cup of coffee splattering in all directions because of his shaking, dark circles under his eyes, and a will under his arm. I don't have the Mi-8, so the Huey is my choice, just because I never can keep it from twisting during touchdown. I'm just not great with rudder peddles. The A-10C was my easiest until I got the Viggen. Weirdly, as long as I line up and get the AFK set at the right distance, I don't even need to touch the peddles, even on the runway (good thing, they are a little twitchy). Just get the nosewheel down, reverse thrust kicks in, and it just bloody stops. I may set up a mission just to see if I can get it on a carrier deck.
  16. This is a transectional to another topic, but it doesn't have my wish in it exactly.... You must picture the scene: Shiny New Fighter *gleam*, Tall sexy aviator with a suitably curled manly mustachio fiercely presented, as if to dare the worst of the world... He climbs into is modern death machine, and then turns to the Chief: Good morning my fine fellow! I'm going to need laser codes for my shiny pointy scary laser guided rockets, you know? *uh- sniff - ya guy, ya want wot? I need you to put my special 4 digit number in these here shooters, right? *Hach, dribble- right, uh, I got a form here. Write ur PIElon right there, and give it back. Yeah, like that. *he dribbles at my fine aviator, no further action. Hm* May I tell you the number now? *uh, shure guy, gotta form for that here too... THERE"S ONLY SPACE FOR ONE NUMERAL!!!! *well, hu ya, that's right guy, the 1000s go there. Fine! Here (a tripple reinforced 1 is scratched into the paper) *k... (just stands there) Now what!? *C'mon guy, you're not dumb, I need the form with the 100s (Major Fantacy pulls his DE 50 from an improbable orifice and ends the transactions) If the above reminds anyone of the way we have to set laser codes on runway rearm, and if you have laughed, we surely may come up with a somewhat less cumbersome proceedure. I mean, hell, I didn't wanna do that- I've always liked that chief. Whaddya say Miracle workers at Deka Ironworks?
  17. I don't spend much time making comments on forums, but I thought this module deserved a couple thoughts. After the initial disorientation of seeing the cockpit, (I feel like my X-Plane crashed into my BMS 4.34, and then careened wildly through my DCS texture folders to rest in a new module selection) I find that this is about the slickest first release (patch one never counts) DCS plane I've ever had the pleasure of flying. I can see that this will be very relaxing after a session or two of wrestling the F-14 around the sky with Jester telling me how much I suck... Well done DIS! I look forward to all the tweaks and improvements.
  18. Come, come. Don't be so negative! It may not happen in your predicted time frame, but if they stay in business, it will come. I have faith in the developers even though their help desk need to have the concept of customer service nailed into their heads. Let' say, hmmm. with a mallet.
  19. If there is enough demand for that level of control with a VR helmet, someone will figure it out. Right now, though, using TrackIR, the eye movement component could be pretty useful. It could add the fine touch I need to run my cockpit by touch. TrackIR is just a little too prone to drifting when you reach for a control. DCS has managed to stay at the bleeding edge of Sim technology, so why not add this as well?
  20. I don't know what the problem is, but I add things to the cart, follow the instructions, and nothing happens. No continue button so they can take my money for the product, nothing. I had this problem with lockon 3, and suddenly, one day it worked; once. Now I can't buy mustang. It's not that the credit card is bad, it seems like the service is broken, and I can't give my money away to DCS. Am I the only one that can't buy their products? Is there another e-shop? I don't think I've ever had a similar problem. Sure, I can't get any of the 3 versions of blackshark to work, but I have a ticket in for that. At least they took my money and sent an activation code. This is like an episode of Monty Python's Flying Service: "Sorry, this skit is too silly. I'm done. No, don't zoom in, I'm done. This is too silly." If DCS wasn't the only real combat sim in the world, I would give up; but there has to be away to get them to take my money for their product. If this sounds like a stupid complaint from your side, imagine what it sounds like in my head as I log in over and over, only to be rebuffed by no continue to the payment section button. What do I do?:helpsmilie:
