  1. I have to agree with this - i have a recently modded UberIINXT cougar and its a dream to fly with - nwext up has to be the X52 though IMHO (I havent had a chance to have a go with the CH gear - apart from the pedals : which Simpeds blow out of the water i must say ;) ) But as brewber said, whatever works best for you, an X52 is an awesome piece of kit - especially for the cost....
  2. Youd better believe the 504th (FighterWing and BomberWing) are still around... ;)
  3. High quality layered PSD templates are more than likely too big to send over e-mail... Most of the better quality templates Ive seen for a/c so far have been in the order of 50 or so Megs... Download from URL or providing a dropbox area (or equivalent) are probably your best bets....
  4. Oh man I gotta ask...and please dont flame me for this.... :P Do you wear it on your head? And did you wash it first? ;)
  5. I had something similar and made my yaw (X) axis a lot more aggressive (turned down smoothing a little and increased the "steepness" of the curve...) Result is that you can move your head a little less to reach the FOV limits for that axis - meaning the TrackIR can keep a better view of the 3 reflectors on the TrackIR clip. I found that the "weirdness" I was experiencing was when the TrackIR was losing sight of one of the 3 reflectors - in the "tracking" view of the TIR s/w one of the reflectors starts flickering red... This worked wonders for me - hope it helps you out too!
  6. Awesome movie... 10/10!!! Im gonna go watch it again... ;)
  7. *phew* Im glad it wasnt just me ;) Been sluggish for me "on and off" since late last week....
  8. Have you got a second controller (joystick, wheel, gamepad, ...) plugged into your PC - perhaps one of the axes on it (those) are interfering with the ingame pitch axis? You mention the aircraft is constantly nose down, sounds more like a pitch axis issue rather than trim - with the right throttle settings not using trim you should be able to fly fairly well - trim just eliminates the constant adjustments you have to make....so you can fly in your current attitude relatively hands free...)
  9. Ive got the Thermalright xp-120 (similar to the HSF in Fudd's picture) Slap a 120mm fan on top of it and a few more in the case (I like the noise - it sounds like a jet! adds to the immersion ;) ) and my 3500+ stays lovely and cool (30-40C under load) even during a hot 40+C aussie summers day. Corsair: That Tt Volcano will serve you well - I used to have one on my last rig, does its job well but as IK says it can be a tad noisy (especially with the fan at full hammer!) Lotsa good advice in here - nothing else that really needs to be added except maybe good luck in sorting out the overheating
  10. oooh! Ive just bought the HS3 kit and U2NXT !! :S i guess a spare would be handy though... :D
  11. my thought were more based on the evolution from assembler, through ANSI C/pascal, through C++ with whatever magical toolkits/modules/API kits etc etc.... codewise very similar but resource requirements can be a world (or 5!) apart ;) "VB and similar languages are not made for runtime performance or small footprints. They're designed for rapid application development." - that isnt necessarily a good thing IMHO ;) The reality is yeah we need to upgrade year in and year out (and yes I do this - and no I dont want to play consoles :) ) In a perfect world though when referring we perhaps shouldnt need to (at least quite as often anyway!) ;) for the code that is.... ;) Of course graphics textures ARE big and we need the resources to be able to handle those - but thats a different aspect. Oh and I prefer old cars BTW ;)

VB (cant say Ive used it thankfully ;) ) and graphical quality notwithstanding - Force_Feedback's comment holds true quite well... Lets take a typical "Hello World" program, the simplest of all - typically a compiled executable was a few bytes in the late 80's - early 90's , by the mid 90's quite a few Kb (at least!) these days a few hundred Kb (if not a lot more depending on environment) - it doesnt do anything different than it did back then!! (and yes Im keeping this simple ;) ) Now thats a simple program - look at program bloat (in every aspect of programming) FSX really comes to mind here - it is nicer than FS9 but _that much_ nicer for the resources needed? Not arguing but in some scenarios Force Feedbacks statement is correct (and in many ways quite conservative....)
  13. Im keen at having another crack at this too - lets see if we cant rustle up a plan and some pilots for it.... P.S. Sven - good to see another Perth guy about!! ;)
  14. rFactor is a good choice because there are so many great mods out for it - if you decide to drive f1, karts, touring cars, or whatever theres probably a free mod out there that does it and does it well. Buy one product, get 15 or 20 sims essentially....and theres more in the pipeline... Physics and graphics are top notch too - it definitely wont feel like an arcade game :) That being said, Im not knocking GTR-2 either its awesome and (imho) better in some respects... but you buy GTR-2, you get GTR-2.
  15. Steel Beasts Pro PE is everything you could want in a tank sim :) http://www.steelbeasts.com Ive just really got back into race sims this last week (taking a bit of a break from flying atm) Ive got GTR-2 and rFactor (CTDP F1 2005 mod and the F1 1979 demo installed) and Im loving them!
  16. Hmm Ill start switching it on again and do some testing ;) Though call me old fashioned - I try my best to keep IR launchers anywhere but directly behind me... the ones i know about anyways!! :)
  17. Just wondering if theres any need to switch it off since its passive... It also takes a while to warm up so if you like to use it its probably good to switch it on as part of your normal checklist, leave it on and forget about it... TBH Ive never found it of much use myself (though some T drivers swear by it...) The way I see it, if you dont see an IR SAM launch then youre stuffed.... as for IR AAM's, if youre being launched at your fighter cover aint doing its job properly :D
  18. Have to agree with the masses here... TIR is the most important piece of kit you can have after a HOTAS (and a PC... ;) ) Then pedals....
  19. Is your throttle fully idle (if you have a seperate throttle/axis) when you start the engines? (perhaps check throttle axis calibration if necessary) Im trying to recall if that can cause this (Im stuck at work atm so cant check...)
  20. here is Aus the movie is called "Downfall" - I dunno if that helps you ;) (I bought a copy of it... but yeah no 'action" shots... its about Hitlers last weeks in his bunker...good movie but!)
  21. exactly..... 3800m+ AGL be your friend..... take your time and kill the bad boys....
