DCS: P-40F at Flying Legends Air Show, Duxford, UK
outlawal2 replied to Ells228's topic in Community News
MAN, he must really be putting it thru the paces.. Look at that lean angle! :smilewink: -
Nicely said and I agree 100%...
-
I stand corrected sir.. Thanks for the update..

Yeah catch-22.. I'll bet the new website has a lot of very cool pics.. And of course all of them will be in DCS 2.0 so at this point cannot be shown due to NDA... And they won't want to put up a brand new site with old pics so here we are again waiting on ED to finally release DCS 2.0 and now it is affecting the third party devs as well.. Not pretty
-
Maybe someone should contact the folks that provide interfaces for FSX/P3D and see if they would be interested in providing a solution for DCS? As already stated, ED provides the framework, what is needed now is someone to come in and utilize it like Helios did.. Since this would be a pay module, I would expect the end product to be user friendly / easy to use and setup..

Nope no interest at all.. If I want to just tool around and sight see there are several offerings (The HAWK being my favorite) that already fit this bill nicely.. I would rather the focus and work be placed on F-18, F-14, Typhoon, Cobra, Hind etc... If all the major airframes were to be programmed, then I would say OK to civilian planes, buit at the rate it takes to complete a DCS level module, I will be long DEAD before that happens.. (That was not a dig at the developers at all, just a reality check regarding the amount of work involved and the time it takes to program these things and to do it right..) Nope no Cessna for me ..

Hardware overhaul - I'm playing a new game!
outlawal2 replied to TAW_Blaze's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
If you have to choose one over the other when it comes time, I HIGHLY recommend a good SSD.. As good as the rest of your hardware now is,. the SSD would show the biggest noticeable improvement to gameplay... -
Try reading the forum rules as they specifically state that no conversation about admin / mod decisions etc..

Why do people keep saying this? OF COURSE it will be released at the same time.. The entire POINT of EDGE and DCSW 2 is to provide better visuals and performance.. You can only take full advantage of this with a map that is specifically built for it.. Hence NTTR... Do you seriously think they are going to spend literally YEARS bringing this to light and release it with the old caucus map that they have already said does not take advantage of what EDGE brings? Why on EARTH would anyone do that?
-
I seem to recall some very early screenshots showing the fact that curvature of the earth is modeled in EDGE.. (and no I don't have a link, sorry)
-
Very doubtful it is a modeling issue.. I am sure it has something to do with what information they have readily available.. (Or maybe they physically have a clipped version available to them right now..) The modeling of either version should be very similar and should not present any special issues for them..

Directx12 is not released yet so pretty much impossible at this point.. Also no one knows exactly which OSes will support 12 (I think only Windows 10 and that hasn't been released yet either.) And even if it WAS released recently, changing to DirectX12 could push the timeframe for DCSW 2.0 out much further yet... Let's just wait and see what DCSW 2 with DirectX 11 has for us..

You know when it's time to take a break from DCS A10-C when..
outlawal2 replied to HAVOC131's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Hey I like that! -
I think this is a moot point as I don't believe that any current card that IS approved for DCS now is not already DirectX 11 capable..

Rotor Blade Visual Model works opposite of Rudder Input.
outlawal2 replied to ShuRugal's topic in Bugs and Problems
Nope read up on it... What you see is correct. (The term is gyroscopic progression and means that as the rotor turns and you put an input into it, it actually rotates ninety degrees before the input takes effect.. So you put the input into the rotr ninety degrees BEFORE the direction you wish to move.. Then when the rotor is turning it "catches up". What you see in the simulation is correct even though it doesn't look right.. From the Huey manual pg. 29: "The result of applying force against a rotating body occurs at 90° in the direction of rotation from where the force is applied. This effect is called gyroscopic precession and it is illustrated in Figure 3.4. For example: if a downward force is applied at the 9 o'clock position in the diagram, then the result appears at the 6 o'clock position as shown. This will result in the 12 o'clock position tilting up an equal amount in the opposite direction. Figure 3.5 illustrates the offset control linkage needed to tilt the main rotor disc in the direction the pilot inputs with the cyclic. If such a linkage were not used, the pilot would have to move the cyclic 90° to the right of the desired direction. The offset control linkage is attached to a lever extending 90° in the direction of rotation from the main rotor blade." I tried to copy the diagram but the board refused to let me paste it in.. -
My training was in an R22 for the Lion's share (and the subsequent rollover as well) and I have a few hours in an R44 which interestingly enough is a much easier bird to fly..

My first module was the Black Shark and then the A-10... (But I am also very partial to helicopters)

Giant Explosion After Saudi Arabian Airstrike
outlawal2 replied to 104th_Maverick's topic in Military and Aviation
At first I was thinking.. That wasn't any big deal... And then about that time part 2.. HOLY CRAP WoW -
Why in the world would you hold off flying a perfectly good airframe waiting on carrier ops? Fly the plane and use it in any number of possible scenarios such as Top Gun for example.. Or just don't worry about it and fly the plane... You guys kill me.. HURRY UP HURRY UP HURRY UP.. (But wait until carrier ops is included) Using the plane while waiting for other dfeatures (Like carrier ops) is one of the reasons there are beta releases in the first place...

The reason AMD did not work well with DCS was due the the fact that AMD stopped supporting DirectX9.. With the advent of DirectX11 in DCS, AMD should work well... At least until they stop supporting DirectX11 (Like they did 9) and then folks will be in the same boat again.. Personally, I see no reason to play russian roulette that way so I will stick with the tried and true Nvidia as they continue to support their hardware.. :music_whistling:

Just because they are DIRECTX11 does not have any bearing on how they are programmed and maybe the sims you have are not programmed well... DIRECTX11 ALLOWS a much better feature set but if you don't utilize it, it won't make a difference. ED will utilize DX11 and the results will be much better than what we have now.. (Screenies have already shown this) The down side is we have no idea when it will be ready for prime time.. Comparing sims from multiple sources and making broad brush statements about DIRECTX is a bad idea... And if you want proof of DIRECTX11 being superior in every way, just load up SHOGUN 2 from EA and try it on DIRECTX 9 and then change to DIRECTX 11... Night and day difference...

Happy Birthday O programmer extraordinaire!
-
This subject has been beaten to death in about a hundred threads.. Bottom line is that EDGE is a GRAPHICS system, not an entire rewrite of the entire program. The only way you can program multi thread properly is to consider it from the ground up and even then, the benefits to this sim would be modest at best. That along with the difficulties of keeping events in sync while multi threading make it more trouble than ED deems it is worth. And they are the programmers so I think they ought to know.. Multi thread in a simulation as advanced as DCS world at this point is not going to happen.. They ARE going to work on Multi GPU though and this along with DIRECTX11 will make a major improvement for us... (And please don't ask about DirectX 12 as it hasn't even been released yet) Maybe after EDGE has been perfected with Multi GPU and DirectX 11 MAYBE they might look at Multi threading but as stated this would take a complete rewrite to accomplish..
