  1. having just bought the uh1 mod and starting with the cold start mission I cant get anything to work in cockpit other than views and track ir... when I put a mouse over a knob or switch that can be interacted with it changes colors and icon but when I click lmb or rmb nothing happens... so I cant even do a startup.... however, if I exit the training mission then just open a regular mission, everything in the cockpit works as it should... all I want to do today is just start the dam thing.... any ideas why I cant get the training mission to startup working? does anyone have a custom mission I can download for startup practicing and free flight? EDIT: solved, after changing to native resolution clicking the fly now button actually worked and started the mission properly, before it was just putting me in the chopper just as eye candy for some reason.... had to be something with the resolution I was running at and where the mouse was actually at vs where I thought it was at
  2. very similiar to the grob 109 but its a tail dragger not a trike... i loved that plane... total blast to fly...
  3. http://www.flyingmag.com/pilots-places/pilots-adventures-more/spitfires-buried-burma-be-excavated 20 new in the crate spitfires found buried....
  4. maybe easier but sailplanes are alot safer and can go much higher. my longest flight was 4 hours and got to 2,200 meters just from a winch launch which is only good for a few hundred feet... and boy was it cold up that high and i had to pee so bad when i landed hahahah
  5. congrats man, i learned to fly sailplanes in germany while stationed there till 92... i racked up 40+ hours with 26 of that being solo (wouldve been more but had trouble getting a medical signoff)... but our glider club was right on our base but was a german based club... i had several different instructors i rotated with so students get different methods of instruction... one of these instructors was an ex german fighter pilot and he taught me the most.... not the least which was some mild aerobatics :O) ive flown ka7, ka8, ask18, ask13 trainer, grob109, grob 103, ls4 and several others i cant even remember... we used a winch truck that had a big american v8 on the back tied to two different spools for two launches before a car would have to come retrieve the cables and pull back down to the start position.. i never thought glider flying would be fun but its a total blast and when you get in a thermal together with 2 or more other aircraft and even a eagle... your just speechless...
  6. i realize that may be cheaper and easier implemented but look at it, its blinding as hell.. and i'd be more interested in being able to reach out and adjust that vor or altimeter etc in my hand... thanks for the info though if someone has more info on using helios to control servos/stepper motors for gauge control i'd be interested...
  7. ok that clears a few things up.. does anyone have a thread link with some more info on doing gauges then with stepper motors (servos)..using helios??
  8. helios isnt hardware its software for driving monitors, not gauges as i understand it but sim meters do claim their stuff works with dcs software.. and i have seen some of their stuff in use on youtube... if they can make more gauges as others have mentioned i think its a neat product versus a flat screen fake gauge...
  9. there was a special on a few nights ago with the star terrance howard on a pbs station here and it was quite interesting... the movie nearly didnt get made... he was saying that george lucas had wanted to do this movie for a number of years and was finally ready to do it..so he fronted the money, blah blah, did the movie and in the process made a few innovations as he always does when filming... but then he took the movie to fox to have them do the distributing and advertising since he had a long relationship with fox already... they turned him down... GEORGE LUCAS!... he said what the hell for... they said with an all black cast they didnt know how to handle it and didnt think it would go over very well and said they didnt want to deal with it. So george went to all the other motion picture co's, i think in the interview he said he went to 7 other co's and they ALL turned the movie down... Terrance went on to say he was devistated and shocked especially after already fronting 50 million of his own money to do the movie... during dinner with his wife who is half african american i guess told him now you are understanding what its like being black and being turned away... and is rather ironic that back then blacks couldnt do this or that, and here we are today and having to go through this .... sooooo george said screw em i'll distribute it my self and put up another 20 million or so to do all the distribution and advertising... but as most have said cgi crap just really can never get flying just right.. thats why good movies like blue thunder thats 30 years old still are kick ass to watch cause they actually used real aircraft for 90% of the movie...in fact the only cgi in that movie was the two fighter jets. Then a rc helicopter for two scenes ... the rest was all full scale and rocks even today...
  10. not having bs myself or being familiar with the ka50 other than rc ones, can you really feel it on the real one or is it a fly by wire system like an apache?
  11. way to many choices..but thats why you research long and hard before starting.. Heres what i'd like to build someday and shouldnt be a suprise based on my avatar :smilewink: AH64-A (NOT A D MODEL)... i have many many more detailed pics of every panel, access panel, rivet, inside and out :D
  12. thanks for the links dog... may have to drive over to gadrocs and have him school me in some do's and donts since hes just in the next state over lol..
  13. heres a question for you guys... if their software can be used to translate the export file from the sim to make their mechanical gauges work... wouldnt it be possible to also make like the warning panel/lights functional as well??? just wonder how this would work if possible..would you need another gpwhiz40 or similiar board to send voltage/signal to relays or lamps etc... any thoughts or comments on how software of this type works... EDIT: think i answered my own question.. http://www.flightillusion.com/brochure_FI/bGSA-10.pdf
  14. if your using virtual gauges... im talking mechanical gauges which is why i posted the sim meter link to begin with.. just trying to share something i found cause i know there has to be others like me that prefer a real working gauge over virtual crap ... lol
  15. exactly hog cause i just stated that mechanical gauges look way better than a shitload of blinding bright monitors... lol.. it would be nice for some things but many of us like actually feeling and working the actual knobs, sliders, and switches which is why we build simpit to begin with.. for added realism.. no offense ... sorry about the link... im on so many forums at once i forgot what i had copied to the clipboard...
  16. they offer several different bezels if you were trying to go for accuracy, 9 bezels to be exact. .. just having an actual working mechanical gauge would be awesome enough.. I cant be the only one that thinks the mechanicals are way more cool than a bunch of blinding bright monitors, ipads, and iphones all over the place to simulate gauges...
  17. where are you seeing that? but from what i was reading its compatible with dcs but just has to be edited/setup.... interesting to say the least... i would like the mechanical gauges much more than all digital stuff like the saitek gauges etc...
  18. Sorry if this has already been posted... http://www.simmeters.com/en/ dozens of working mechanical gauges, not monitors with digital gauges, working from some software called workspace GL that can be used on any sim supporting it. SimMeters Workspace 3.0 is a software interface that allows flight data from some simulations to be read and presented on our instrument panels, therefore providing the virtual pilot with a more realistic and immersive environment. This software works only with simulations that include data export to an external device. The following commercial simulations actually do include a data export protocol compatible with SimMeters Workspace 3.0: · Digital Combat Simulator Series. · Condor The Competition Soaring Simulator. · X-Plane 9.22 and above · Flight Simulator X (On development) Besides data reading for SimMeters’ instrument panels, SimMeters Workspace 3.0 can also be used with software wrappers together with electromechanical simulated instruments and avionics from other brands, such as those made by Flight Illusion. (Wrapper for Flight Illusion available). If you do not find your simulation on the list and you might need some specific software for it we can also provide a customized solutions to suit your needs. Please address any questions to us, and we would be happy to help. just in the altimeter section they have 12 different choices! In airspeed/mach indicator section they have 15 different gagues! Ka 50 altimeter
  19. guess you never heard of VRS TacPack the first true single and multi-player combat simulatation modification for FSX. http://www.vrsimulations.com/tacpack.htm
  20. or you can just get the groovy gamer gpwhiz 40 solderless board, wire your buttons on your panel to the board , plug the board to the pc with the included usb cable and bam your done.. http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=76_81&products_id=235 solderless http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=76_81&products_id=234 solder the one shown below is my solder version and it was $25.. supports 40 buttons, 2 rotary encoders or you can use this from desktop aviator http://www.desktopaviator.com/Products/Model_2310-2312/index.htm gives you 5 analog (potentiometer) inputs, 12 pushbutton, 8way coolie top hat... but they have several other cards to choose from that can do more...they even sell some pre built panels...
  21. the op does make a few good points... if they do put out the p51, (they have every right to) they just have to then create all the models IE buildings, vehicles, support, for that era... no easy task.... Personally i am wanting a good dcs apache sim... :O)
  22. I would love to see a dcs apache sim...and would really consider a home cockpit build....
  23. if your only going to be running gauges etc then you could possibly use something like this http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/products/graphics_cards/m_series/?ref=mseries_adw it supports up to 16 monitors off a single pc....
