How-to: Create net settings that fit YOUR connection!
St3v3f replied to Megagoth1702's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
Which is just another example of how wrong that is. They don't use one in parts, the other for data. Example: capacity of hard drives is usually given in gigabytes, VRAM on graphics cards in gibibytes. And I can assure you, in networking you certainly won't use 1024 -

I never called you stupid and I am sorry if you had the impression I did. I was pointing out that the common "knowledge" that in IT, kilo means 1024 is simply wrong. If you are using 1024 as multiplier, you are talking about kibibytes (KiB), mibibytes (MiB) and so on. The "classical" prefixes are based on 1000 and nothing else. And using 1024 as multiplier for the capacity of a network line is just one many situations you can run into trouble by falling for that false knowledge. -
Try crashing onto the runway :)

anti-skid wouldn't stay on after damage repaired

Maybe you pulled the emergency brake handle and forget to push it back in? -

It hurts my eyes when i see someone setting kilo = 1024, especially when that's coming from pros like ED devs. kilo means 1000, mega means a million and so on. There is no IT kilo. That is true specially in networking, a Gigabit line transfers at 1,000,000,000 bit per second and a 16 Mbit ADSL line got 16,000,000 bps. Nothing against you personally, it's just frustrating to see ;) But to stay on topic, if you've got a value in kbit, multiply it with 1000 / 1024 you've got it in bit. Divide it by 8 and you've got bytes. Multiply your kbit value with 1024/8 and it's the same in one step -
Thanks, helped with P-51D as argument too

+1 But it shouldn't require the creators help, it just needs to check which aircraft are set to client in the mission

Can SA-11 engage without search radar?

If you are bugged by activation messages when starting the game, just delete the corresponding folder in DCS World\mods Aside from that, there doesn't seem to be an option to selectively uninstall a module (did that research a week back myself)
-
There doesn't seem to be an option to change the path in the gui, but it should have asked you the first time you ran it. Anyways, check the JSGME.ini in the same path as the .exe. It should start with [MODS FOLDER] Name=MODS Name=xxx points to the directory your mods are stored in. So just change it here and rename the folder. But maybe you are using a different version that doesn't have the option yet. You can download the one that I am using in the attachment. Changing the shortcut to launch the game directly rather than the updater is one option. But unless you have disabled UAC, the updates shouldn't be applied without confirmation anyways. JSGME.zip

Yes, Senaki is listed as Kolkhi in the radio menu which is also what the pilot will call it in voice. Airports that are belonging to the enemy coalition don't appear in the list too, for obvious reasons ;)
-
Sorry, you are right of course. I've done it the way I described so I could use a single JSGME to handle mods for both DCS World and A-10C standalone rather than having two JSGME.exe and two modfolders. The name of the folder containing the mods is customizable. So you can put JSGME into \DCS World and have the mods in \DCS World\JSGMEMods But anyways, you can do it the way I do and JSGME doesn't touch the Game folders for anything else than putting the modded files in. That is true. I'd recommend disabling all mods before updating.

I don't know about Modman, but JSGME operates in a folder level above the target program. So if you have your DCS in D:\Games\DCS World you will put your JSGME.exe into D:\Games and use D:\Games\Mods as your mod folder. In this mod folder, you put a folder named after your mod and there you put the folders and files in that you wanna change. So you'd want to change DCS World\Config\graphics.lua your modded file woud be: D:\Games\Mods\Graphicsmod\DCS World\Config\graphics.lua There is a Backup folder in \Mods and if you autoupdate your modded files will be replaced with the defaults, but all you need to to is to open JSGME, disable the mods and enable them again.

Only a few Airports in this region have ILS and often they only have on runway equipped with it. If an airport has ILS on both runways, it might use the same frequency for both or seperate ones. If you're tuned to the correct frequency and approaching the correct runway, you shouldn't have any issues picking up the glidescope early. Same with TACAN, only a few Airports are equipped with it. Usually if visibility is good enough, I fly the heading provided by ATC, get a visual on the runway and turn for a straight in. If visibility is too low to get a visual on the runway and there is no TACAN or ILS, I turn my heading knob for the runway heading, switch the steerpoint to the airfield I want to land on and fly the ATC's heading. Then, once the steerpoint needle on the HSI lines up with the heading indicator, it's time to turn. There are no general rules of how you have to approach the airfield in this game. If you are member of a squadron, they might have rules that can range from allowed approaches and required procedures up to the strict use of printed out approach plates. Aside from that, in public games, I'd just say don't do anything stupid and try to work with ATC as good as possible.

Do you have the connection speed set to LAN? This seems to be the best setting for most users

No, one Megabit is 1000 Kilobit (by the way, it's not 1024 kilobit like in popular belief) and 9 * 1000 = 9000 :) -
I haven't done any specific tests, but yeah, I do think that the influence of rain on the aircraft's (at least the A-10) behavior on the ground is simulated. And yes, the wheels do lock up. That's why there is the Anti-Skid switch to prevent that. Press rCtrl + Return to bring up the display for axis input and apply full brakes after touchdown with both Anti-Skid on and off. With the switch set to on, you will see that the "input level" for the brakes is at max, but the effective braking power moves constantly up and down, just like an anti skid system operates. If you set it to off, the brakes will be fully applied, your wheels lock up, leaving a skid mark on the runway and you are much more prone to sliding.
-
I always felt that my A-10 needed a lot more runway to stop in rain than when it was dry and the stability also seemed to be decreased. So I'd say that's already done. But maybe not for the Su-25's simpler flight model?! And even though I'm sure those links already exist somewhere in this forum, they're great nonetheless

How-to: Create net settings that fit YOUR connection!

I have done some testings on our dedicated server about the loading time of a mission, and it doesn't seem to make any differences in that matter. According to speedtest.net, it has about 152 Mbit/s down and 63 Mbit/s up I've tested with Operation Bactria because it takes a very long time to load. I've measured the time that it would take me from clicking join in the server browser until the mission loading box disappeared and the banner screen with the loading bar came up. But no matter what I've set the link types to, it always took me 2m36s +- 2s, uplink usage on the server was around 500 kbit/s I've tried the following combinations: Server: 150000kbit / 60000kbit; Client: LAN Server: LAN; Client: LAN Server: Modem; Client: LAN Server: Modem; Client: Modem -
Improvised airstrips would be really great

I was just sayin, (some) SAMs can track and launch through mountains. And that can under circumstances lead to me getting killed, even though the missile hits the mountain as long as it is in the way. And in my view, players parking a SAM in a forest is absolutely not okay. Unless there is a road through the forest, there wouldn't be a way into it in the first place cause it would get stuck between all the trees. And second, I don't think it would be able to get a lock unless the target is directly above it because of all the trees around it.
-
Even that is not necessarily true. Just yesterday I have had a BUK missile tracking me through a mountain.
-
Press F10 to bring up the map, zoom in on your location and you can see where you are and where the taxiways are
-
I do not own Combined Arms, but have seen plenty of players park SAMs in the middle of a forest, so I don't see anything that keeps them from doing so. It's a real pain in the butt to find them then. makes me want to disable trees in the options sometimes....
