  1. I guess this illustrates how much better DCS level aircraft would be. I hope a DCS: F-15c comes out. Well, back to doing the Iron Eagle 2 in the valleys again for the nth time and hopefully I get lucky and finally destroy the Mainstay. On the first try that I finally got to WP11 (I kept getting lost on my previous attempts) I got lucky, boresighted the two escorts and killed one, got the other defensive and had an AMRAAM and Sidewinder on the AWACS then I just ran off because of the 29s on my tail. When I got back to the base I saw the A-50 mangled but still flying low heading home. Never got lucky again. Fantastic heart-pumping mission though (like some M. Bay movie :)), too bad I can't get past it and see the rest.
  2. Old thread and hoping to resurrect it: are there plans to improve this? Like EXP mode or a "step-thru bug" button which locks the next nearest bug like Falcon BMS? I have no idea what they have in the real F-15c represented in FC I really wish it has something so that I can at least scare or force the two Su27's guarding the A-50 in the campaign mission 3 to go defensive. It's so hard to do TWS with bunched up targets. Please be gentle, I'm a noob. :)
  3. I also think that there's currently a bug in the course director wherein it's also heavily influenced by the aircraft's bank angle. Has that been fixed?
  4. At first I was happy with this because it seems that I can see Su-27s far away as dots. Then I noticed it's the only aircraft I can easily spot as a dot from far away. In the instant action for F-15 the Su-27 even beats the bombers it's escorting (I think Tu-22) visibility wise. Other aircraft aren't as easy to spot compared to the Su-27. I hope this is a feature that will work for all other aircraft. :P
  5. Enemy AI seems OK. I wish my wingman has the same 'intelligence'. He really loves flying low and slow on the FC2 DAC 2vs2. No matter what I do I just couldn't have a go wherein my wingman survives... One time I was climbing to 20k and I heard him say missile launch 12:00. Next thing he said: Ejecting... It came from a SU-25...
  6. I hope it's not placebo but I notice that my AA missiles do a 'glint' at some point in their flight. I can also usually spot missile smoke trails at medium ranges so that helps in my avoidance (or I no longer get surprised as much when I'm hit). I tried doing the Sitting Ducks mission in the A-10c but I really couldn't say if the ground objects are more visible. I can spot them with the eye, yes, but I haven't compared with the previous versions.
  7. I also question the use of rockets. In the first A-10c instant action, convoy group, I usually miss the infantry with mavs or bombs. No matter how centered or visible the standing guy is already on the pipper I can easily expend all my rockets without getting the guy. I made it my own personal quest to hit the guy with a rocket but with the most extreme tries to score I hit him with my plane (crash on him) instead. :D
  8. I think so too. I was surprised that the F-15's boresight mode was very useful on its instant action mission... WITHOUT LABELS! At first I thought I was locking the bigger bombers. When I looked at the replay I was surprised it's the SU-27's I boresighted. I can also spot faraway SU-27's and F-4s as tiny pixels although Mig-29's and F-16's aren't as easy to see WVR as the bigger planes. I guess that's what real pilots say in WVR. :) Did they implement some sort of smart scaling like Falcon? :p
  9. The problem with waiting is if I can only buy one game before Christmas, other good games have been released while the one I'm waiting for is nowhere in sight... 'til when should I hold on to my money? Next year? I hope ED understands that it's difficult to defend buying Flaming Cliffs 3 after buying Guild Wars 2/F1 2012/Dishonored... to my wife. :)
  10. ^^ I hope ED sorts these problems out real soon. We already have enough things that may possibly cause the engine to crash: - Guns, guns, guns might cause a crash. - Explosions might cause a crash. - Dead AI that climbs to near outer space (like 300,000 ft!) will cause a crash.
  11. Hi, it does have logs. If I'm not mistaken they are at "Saved Games\DCS\Logs" or something. Their extension is .crash I think.
  12. LOL, just a bit more then they can be considered "space objects". 309952 feet = 94473.4 meters 100 km is the recognized boundary of space right?
  13. I got to minimize the crashing by setting Scenes to Medium. At High, 3/3 times it crashed when it seems like a giant dust cloud begins to form where the bullet hits the ground. At Medium it only crashed once in 5 attempts to empty the gun. I noticed that before the crash there's an instant wherein the building I peppered with guns became transparent on the TGP while some fires are beginning to form. Seems like some effects are crashing the engine.
  14. I spoke too soon. 6288 crash with a long gun burst, Free Flight. # -------------- 20121012-032057 -------------- # C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION at ECBE2C52 00:00000000 00000000 00000000 0000:00000000 ECBE2C52 0014E9E0 0000:00000000 ECBEA90C 0014ECA0 0000:00000000 ??4GraphicEffect_Impl@Effects@@QEAAAEAV01@AEBV01@@Z()+19AC ED6F5B94 0014ECD0 0000:00000000 ?DrawNormalLights@DXRenderer@Graphics@@AEAAXPEAPEAVRenderObject@2@H@Z()+A4 ED6F821D 0014ED10 0000:00000000 ?DrawObjects@DXRenderer@Graphics@@UEAAXPEAPEAVRenderObject@2@I@Z()+15D ED06DD81 0014ED60 0000:00000000 ?DrawTransparent@RenderParserImpl@@QEAAX_N0MM0@Z()+C1 ED07F6CB 0014F020 0000:00000000 ?RenderScene@SceneManager_Implement@@QEAAXPEAVsmCamera@@_N@Z()+3DB ED08201A 0014F140 0000:00000000 ?RenderMain@SceneManager_Implement@@UEAAXAEBVdPosition@@W4vCameraType_e@@AEBUViewport@smSceneManager@@@Z()+48A ED083123 0014F350 0000:00000000 ?Render@SceneManager_Implement@@UEAAXXZ()+5D3 3F6F950B 0014F3E0 0000:00000000 3F6FC22D 0014F440 0000:00000000 3F7132B4 0014F470 0000:00000000 3F7131A9 0014F4D0 0000:00000000 3F798098 0014F540 0000:00000000 3F7994D8 0014FA30 0000:00000000 3F79BEBF 0014FAE0 0000:00000000 765E652D 0014FB10 0001:0001552D C:\Windows\system32\kernel32.dll BaseThreadInitThunk()+D 76CDC521 0014FB60 0001:0002B521 C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll RtlUserThreadStart()+21
  15. Man, your PC has like double the power of mine yet the last time I tested my framerates are 40 to 70+! My settings are all on HIGH except Civilian Traffic to OFF, view distance to 60000, no labels. I'll do more tests, it might just be that the Shooting Gallery mission is very kind (but it crashed a lot before).
  16. Strange. Anyway, the difference I had was I reinstalled World from scratch and updated straight to 6288. Better stability and frame rate afterwards. The intense stutter during mission start after clicking the unpause button was also gone. Maybe reinstallation from a blank state helped?
  17. Anyone still getting the same crashes with the latest patch? Last time I looked it's 6288? I'm actually surprised at how smooth it was (or maybe it's just because I turned off labels) and that seeing seeing explosions of CBU-97s and a barrage of guns on the TGP no longer crashes my game. Tested a few times on the Shooting Gallery mission.
  18. Perhaps these two issues are related? http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=95199
  19. Same here. In my case it also happens when AI F/A-18s strafe targets with their guns while being visible in the screen or the TGP. Happened to me 3 times in a row on the A-10c campaign mission 4 (attrite some tank company) so I tried to finish the mission as quick as I can before the AI begins strafing with their guns. Dunno if it's related but I'm also dumped back to the launcher screen occasionally when explosions are seen on TGP. i5 2500k @4GHz 470 GTX 4GB DDR3 @1600cas9 I attached some of my crash logs. I'm pretty sure all except the latest log is for the gun effects crash while the last one is for the explosion on TGP effect. Crash Logs.zip
  20. Depends if you like a survey or study sim. If you want multiple playable aircraft, Flaming Cliffs is for you. If you prefer to study the F-16 down to the switches level Falcon 4/BMS it is. I think both are believable in the flight dynamics department (referring to Falcon BMS, not 4.0) but Flaming Cliffs have better graphics especially for the ground (Falcon's ground textures are tile-based, looks like flying over Diablo I/II land). Flaming Cliffs doesn't have the dynamic campaigns which the Falcon has though. If you decide on Flaming Cliffs, wait for FC3. It's announced that it'll be out this month.
  21. I just tried to answer his question but it's a good thing you pointed out the tactical value (or lack thereof) of doing such. I guess I'll be getting a B- for my answer then? :smartass:
  22. I think on the profile pages of those bombs on DSMS you should be able to change their ripple settings from sgl (single) to multiple drops like prs (pairs) or more. You can look at page 554 of the flight manual for details.
  23. Hello, new guy here but I would like to chime in. I'm not an expert in the game, err, sim. I haven't even started campaigns or did serious missions or multiplayer matches, etc. My answer to this is lots willpower. I just got the DCS A-10c a couple of months ago. During that time I didn't even have a HOTAS. All I had was an XBox 360 controller and a wireless Logitech joystick that always loses its juice in a few minutes. At first the controls are really intimidating. Lots of buttons obviously. I initially used my Xbox 360 controller and created three shift keys and bound all the HOTAS controls from there. I took the HOTAS Fundamentals tutorial and passed it so I was ecstatic. Then I kept repeating it. Then I moved away from shift keys and added my Logitech joystick. Then repeated the tutorial many times again. Then I got my new CH flight controllers, I tried to match the controls of the real hog as much as I can then I repeated the HOTAS tutorial many times, again, hahaha. Now though I'm usually doing the quick missions with lots of easy ground targets (I use the quick mission generator) for my HOTAS practice. Perhaps after 300 (that includes taking off and landing!) hours of flight time I can slowly add AAs then SAMs. Willpower. Without it I wouldn't have researched, I wouldn't have read, I wouldn't have practiced this complicated sim. I'm still not really good at it though since there are still a lot of times when I miss a pass on the targets because I did something wrong. I wish willpower can also make a good sim-pilot. :) Btw, I also think that the hog's HOTAS controls are intuitive. Like TMS Up locks, TMS Down is the opposite, T is for Target, DMS Up zooms or increases range, DMS Down is the opposite, D is for Display, Boat switch for changing the "color" of TGP and MAV, China hat for managing the sensors in relation to the SPI and steerpoint, pressing some things longer have more drastic effects, etc. Those are the ideas that made it easier for me to remember and I hope they help others too.
